Great General Wallace

So I just started playing Magic: the Gathering about 3 weeks ago and was wondering if anyone else in the guild played. I started with a black/white exalted deck which I've since cannibalized. currently i run a whit/blue, a mono red, and a mono green. The mono colored decks could use a bit of tinkering. A group of friends of mine from my college play during the day in the campus student center and got me interested and I really enjoy it.

What decks do you run?

I play magic! I'm in the process of making a superior Blue/White legacy deck. >w< Until then, I play with a Red/Black deck. My roommate plays and taught me, he's helping me build my deck. =D

Awesome. My decks are all standard and i play Friday Night Magic at my local fantasy shoppe. A friend of mine helped build my first deck based around m13 s black white exalted deck. This friday i'm gonma try usimg my blue white deck now that i've got it to a point where i'm confident it can handle itself reasonably well.

Ahh, that's really cool. I've invested, oh, around sixty for all the cards I have so far, but I'm fairly confidant it won't cost me much more to finish it up. We got some pretty good shops like that here that sell cards reasonably cheap, even the rare ones and stuff. =D

I've invested about $90 into may cards. I bought two premade decks the m13 xore set box and the m13 deckbuilders toolkit. I also won 3 booster packs for free in the magic celebration event saturday. Got in second place in my pod. Thta was really fun. I'll probanly be buying another toolkit cuz it,s a cheap way to get alot of cards at only $20. Probably also gomna get another prebuilt deck to tinker with or cannibalise for good cards.

I can't wait for return to ravnica to come out. That s**t looks amazing. Just a couple more weeks!

That is cool, my friend. Oh, I suppose I should introduce myself. I'm Mandi, the official "Shinon" of the guild. :3 This is SO cool to know another magic fan besides my mentor lol!

I'm Aaron offline, here i' m either Wallace, Wally, or Wall-E. If you call me Wall-E I will most like respond with EVE because i'm awesome like that. Luckily at my college there are a ton of people who play that i know which is also awesome.

I've had an affinity to fire/mountain decks, no matter what, I can't stop running them. I've also trying some island and forest decks, but I can't stand flying creatures, so I tend not to use them. And as for the forests, ahh... I don't know.

Sokensan Spellblade is the s**t. I DON'T GIVE A ******** there any recommendations for junction decks?

I don't know all that much about Magic yet, as I'm learning as I go, but Flyers are pretty useful since, you can't block them with anything other than another Flyer, so it makes them very useful if you know you're going against a "grounded" deck.

I'm also a resident Magic player. smile

I run seven decks: one Modern, Mono-Green Elf Deck, and six Commander Decks.

60-card formats:

Elves: Modern-legal, as I've taken out Green Sun's Zenith. Focuses on ramp, token production (especially via Rhys the Redeemed + Quest for Renewal), and game-finishers via Ezuri, Joraga Warcaller, or Beastmaster's Ascension.

Commanders:

Wrexial, the Risen Deep: Black/Blue Mill deck that focuses on reaching into your deck and throwing out your recursion cards before they ever hit your hand. Casting spells from your graveyard is tasty, so keep 'em coming. :3 Leyline of the Void, Relic of Progenitus, and Nezumi Graverobber ensure that Eldrazi effects that hit the Graveyard never go off.

Wort, the Raidmother: Red/Green Conspire deck, focusing on getting massive amounts of lands and tokens before conspiring for lethal damage via Overrun/Beastmaster Ascension/Vitalizing Wind. Focuses on token production for ease of conspiring.

Animar, Soul of the Elements: Red/Green/Blue creature deck that focuses on blinking Come-Into-Play effects for minimal costs. If that sounds 'worthless' to you, have fun with repeated Acidic Slimes eating your lands.

Stonebrow, Krosan Hero: Red/Green Giant Warriors deck that focuses on making huge, double-striking, indestructible trampling fatties. smile

Thada Adel, Acquisitor: Mono-Blue deck that focuses on self-comboing, drawing, and Scrying for answers. I like letting her hit; the more money you've put into the Artifacts in your deck, the better off I am. Creature control via bounce, Telemin Performance, and Proteus Staff ensure that I keep control of the game, while the multiple counters keep you from doing anything in the first place. Making Thada unblockable is fun. I'll take your Sol Rings, Mindslavers, and Sensei's Divining Tops, thank ya~ whee

Teysa, Orzhov Scion: Black/White token sac deck, running an engine that will assure that you'll never keep creatures on the board. Grave Pact, spot Exile, and the ability to run through both of our graveyards with Debtor's Knell assure that I'll be the one in control of the critters. biggrin

----

On the note about flying critters: Yes, you can't block them with 'grounded' creatures, but there are always ways around it; quite a few Green cards are 'anti-air', as they say. Raking Canopy is a reliable enchantment for Blue fliers (whose decks have trouble responding to it once it's on the battlefield), spot destruction of flying creatures abound in Green, and are a better choice against White decks (who commonly dabble in fliers). Spot removal is generally better against Red flying decks (read: Dragons), as Red''s gotten a lot more Enchantment hate, as of late.

Point being, for every advantage they have in combat, Fliers have their respective issues.

I casually play. I run a Monowhite Human/Soldiers/Tokens deck that I call "Path of the Grandmaster", based on Odric, the Master Tactician.
Some people claim I based it on FE, and perhaps I did.
Turn 7... I swing for game, you block nothing, because I have Odric swinging and I say you don't.
