As I understand it, Fifty Shades of Grey started life as Twilight fanfiction, then the author filed off the glitter and published it. This angered people who identify themselves as in "alternate lifestyles" because of the way sadomasochism is presented.
And now parodies of the title (Fifty Shades of Grayson, Every Shade of Everything) are used to suggest a particular piece of fanfiction is pointless, poorly written smut.
Is this accurate?

Triple up on the "this is why this book sucks" speach and you've nailed it.
It's a bad smut story even by fanfiction standards, Kitty. If you can find it on amazon, pull up the book preview and read the first page. The narroration is bulky, there's no character establishment, and there's irrelevant details running rampant. Also the author is downright lazy in the typing department. If you bring up a Mercedes, continue to call it a Mercedes, not a "Merc". Likewise you don't give your main character a windy name if you're not willing to spell it out.
Just.... arg. I can't believe I endured 16 pages.

I just stumbled across a video entitled "Little Kuriboh (of Yugioh Abridged fame) reads Fifty shades of Grey."
I'm not going to watch it.
