Jauhar was far too warm for Shukri's liking, the air was hot, the ground was warm and he swore the trees that made up so much of the landscape emanated heat. The wind tribe earthling would have much preferred the bone freezing chill of Zena's tundra to the hot and humid rainforest he found himself in. The map however had sent him not in the direction of tall ice capped mountains but to the homeland of the Shifters and Alkidike. If Shukri wanted the mysterious treasure the legends hinted at then he'd have to put up with the strange and uncomfortable atmosphere. The pale haired young man could only hope it was like climbing and that he body would acclimatise to the heat eventually. At least down on the forest floor his pale skin was protected from too much sunlight, it seemed that outside Sauti it somehow burned brighter and left Shukri weaker when exposed to it for too long.

Treading carefully he made his way along the ground, being careful to avoid brushing against unknown plants and keeping a watch out for anything that looked like it meant him harm. Shukri had done his best to prepare for a journey into this foreign region but what limited knowledge he had gathered was failing the non native at the moment. He couldn't have sought out a guide though, not without explaining why he was here and Shukri highly doubted " to steal your treasure" was going to go over well with the locals. Not that it was exactly their treasure according to the legend but still.

As it was Shukri's excuse for being in the region at all was to open trade negotiations and map out good trading routes for his people. Something he planned to do as soon as he made some progress on his quest. A quest which at the moment was stalled since the pale haired young man couldn't find the hidden symbol he was looking for for the life of him. He was also pretty positive that he'd started to walk in circles, which was embarrassing since he hadn't gotten lost since he was a youngling.

Sniffing the flower she had found hanging on a vine in the tree's Maya scrunched her nose. It didn't have the same wondrous smell most of the forest had, this one didn't harmonize well at all. Perhaps it was a new species of flower trying to grow, and if that was the case she could only hope that over time it too would harmonize with the forest. Sometimes it just didn't happen and the creatures were driven out and were found in other places. Shrugging off the strange new addition to the forest Maya pulled herself up onto a higher branch before another. Shifting through the tree's like a snake.

Today she was supposed to be hunting for meat, they had run out of the dried substance not long after she had returned to Jahaur. Niebet her older sister had complained that since Maya was now a Blade it was her time to go hunting for food and she should be allowed to play about. Elder Kishku had even agreed it was a good idea for Maya to hunt instead of gather food for a change. So here she was. Pacju prowled low to the ground sniffing and shifting in time with Maya. Even now it seemed they acted like a primal hunting pair. She had already managed to catch several fish and birds but that wouldn't satisfy her tree full of sisters for long.

Strange shifting motions on the forest floor directed both beast and Alkidikes attention to a direction not far off to the side. Sliding carefully from branch to branch so she wasn't making enough noise to be spotted Maya carefully scanned the ground while Pacju edged forward. The Radaku was great for surprising their prey long enough for Maya to get a couple of arrows in it before it would take off. From there it was a matter of tracking it down to bring home.

Drawing nearer to the sound Maya beamed when her dark bug like eyes fell upon the figure of a four legged beast. Pacju burst forth as Maya loosed two arrows, almost cheering when the creature was struck and sent bolting through the trees. In a flurry of movement both Radaku and Alkidike were after it. Determined to follow until it collapsed from the strain.

The run had taken them far from her home and she wasn't expecting the strait lining creature to make a sudden turn, unable to keep her balance she was sent tumbling forward into something. Human?

Shukri had been getting used to the sounds of the area when suddenly there was silence causing the young man to freeze. Usually when local wildlife went quiet it meant predators were about. Pale blue eyes scanned the area, trying to make out anything approaching in the light provided by various crystals and glowing fungi that dotted the area. There was a sudden rustling in the brush behind him and Shukri turned in time to see a dark mass of something run by. Before his eyes could register just what it was the young man found himself being knocked off his feet by something heavy he could only make out in his peripheral vision. Unprepared for the assault all he could do was yelp in protest while falling.

The ground felt harder than usual, and it was noisy too! Wiggling about as Pacju burst from a bush to inspect her, Maya rolled onto her back with a groan. Who wandered around the floor of Jahaur, shifters stuck to the trees as much as the Alkidikes did. Anyone who came from places other than Jahaur often knew better than to be on the ground. "You should know better than to be down in the path of the hunt." Maya hissed as she tried to pull herself up into a sitting position. What stupid person had gotten in her way. Turning her head towards Shukri her face dropped. Swallowing hard against her words it was too late to put them back in her mouth.

After checking to make sure Maya was ok the Radaku returned to sniffing the ground in search of the thin trail of blood left by their kill. Grumbling to herself Maya watched the process with distaste before raising to her feet and offering her hand to the wind earthling. "What are you doing in Jahaur?" A smile played on her lips. "You couldn't have come to see me now could you?" She was teasing him lightly as she looked him over. He sure looked different than she last remembered, not that she didn't look different herself.

Shukri had been about to complain that he was walking because climbing made his hands itchy here when he realized just who had sent him tumbling to the ground and knocked half the air out of his lungs. He had known Maya lived in Jauhar but hadn't expected to run into her without some serious effort. Shukri was glad to see his alkidike friend again even under such circumstances. Although he was mildly concerned with the words hunting path, had he been unknowingly presenting himself as a meal for predators in the area or just to people?

The young man laughed softly at Maya's teasing and reached up to take to her hand. "It was on my list of things to do," he admitted with a grin. It might not have been his top priority and the reason he was there but Shukri had planned on trying to find Maya while here or at least get a message to her. "Sorry about letting your prey get away, I'll make it up to you somehow." Shukri was no hunter but he could fish.. well he had some experience fishing anyways and Jauhar had more fish filled water than Sauti did. It was the least Shukri could do to make sure he didn't cause his friend to miss a meal or make her have to eat bugs. He didn't care how common it was here Shukri had still been unable to bring himself to willingly ingest an insect.
