On the outskirts of Jericho a group of rather different travelers come across a lonely looking farm. It seems at glance as if it is abandoned. The group has been walking for some time and could use a place to safely rest their heads. They see profit in setting up camp at the farm, and head over to get inside and survey the location. It's a nice sunny day, there's no clouds outside and the area is peacefully quiet. Group 2: Shaggy&Scooby&Trigger. | Sunshine&Sandstorm

It was a twist of fate that lead Mina to Kansas. When the outbreak happened, she was located in Texas. Her original plan was to move east, to the coast. Sure, it was more populated but a part of her wanted to go home, to see what was left. However, after leaving her friend's neighborhood, she immediately returned to base and collected some personal items. Including her rifle and most of her equipment from when she went on tour. Randomly reading through her mail, she came across a letter from a friend she had made while in Iraq. The return address was located in Kansas, and she remembered him speaking about his home with much vigor. However, Mina lingered on base for awhile. They did a good job keeping back the..freaks as well as they could, bringing in civilians and supporting them whilst they were able. But things eventually went haywire. Someone allowed an infected inside and the tide turned over night. Most of her friends were turned and by the next morning, they were dead. It was then, a full two years later, that Mina decided to leave for Kansas.
The Marine crossed into Kansas a little over a few weeks ago. She had lifted a humvee with a full tank, only stopping to rest. Mina had eventually run out of gas and without a gas station in sight, she decided to hoof it. The next day, she happened upon a small miracle and it's companion.
It had been a full twenty-fours since Mina had come across Shaggy and his dog. Catamina had been walking the long stretch of country road, looking for a suitable place to spend the night. She approached them from behind and followed at a safe distance until she was sure that they he was still human. Making her presence known, the female was elated to see a normal person as she hadn't seen one in weeks. Mina didn't bother with questions, figuring that it was best to find shelter before delving into the kid's back story. Besides, a kid his age didn't choose to be alone. There was probably some tragic story behind him, and again, it wasn't the time nor place for such things. The pair simply exchanged names and weathered the night together before setting on the road again in the morning.
"Back when I was deployed overseas, I befriended a solider who used to talk about his home, here in Jericho. If you're wondering, that's where I'm headed. You're more than welcome to come with me." Mina offered, breaking the silence. Truth was, Catamina didn't know if he was still alive or even if his family still lived there. All she knew was that he sent her his address in a letter, saying that if she was ever in the area, she should visit. Mina could only hope for the best and since she didn't have any other place to go, it was a start. At the very least, if the building was still standing, they would have shelter.
Mina had to give it to the kid, regardless if he was alone for the last two years or not. It took a lot out of a person to survive in this new world. She had found and even witnessed many people commit suicide, adults and...children alike. That being said, she didn't feel as though Shaggy needed to be coddled; he got along just fine with his dog and his own wit. It was just sad that he had to grow up in such a screwed up world.
"Are you hungry, or anything?" She asked, looking down at the child. They didn't eat much of a breakfast as she wanted to leave as soon as the sun started to shine. Judging by her map, they were getting close to the farm, and she wanted to get there sooner, rather than later.

Adilina was starting to fall into the belief that she was one of the only people left. She'd been walking for what seemed like ages towards well... she wasn't sure. She had a compass, but lost it in a scuffle as one of the creatures tried to get her. AJ thought it was weird that the beast would take her compass, but she hadn't thought much of it. Still, she was trying to get north, by foot, which wasn't easy for an eight and a half year old like herself. She didn't have long legs like the adults did, so sometimes it took even longer for her just to get anywhere. Her feet were blistered, and hurt when she'd walk but she tried to keep it out of her head.
AJ had been making her way through the state of Kansas when unknown to her, she was being followed. She was trying to stay quiet and off the roads for the most part. Nothing good ever came of people who made sure everyone knew they were there by walking in the middle of the road. Lucky for her she could crouch down and become invisible by hiding in brush. When the person, later introduced as 'Trigger' announced herself Adilina was a bit put off. She wasn't sure if she should travel with the woman, but eventually she went with her anyways. Brother wasn't all too pleased with the new member, and still hadn't warmed up to Trigger, but AJ keeps a good eye on him making sure he doesn't go after the woman.
Now, they were walking along a country road, nothing but open fields for days on the sides of them. AJ thought it was weird, how the grass never stopped out here. She wasn't used to it, even after all this time - after all she did grow up living the city life of the west coast. Adilina comfortably moved alongside the woman with Brother on her other side. Brother constantly would go forward a bit, and turn to watch Trigger. He was protective, and would often make it clear to Trigger that he would jump at her if she even tried to touch AJ. Adilina raised her dirt covered eyelids to Trigger as she spoke. She nodded, "that sounds okay," she said. Internally AJ was overjoyed to be traveling with someone after going alone for all this time, but she still needed to be sure the woman could be trusted. "Kinda weird that they'd name their town after one that was the first one to get taken down by Israelites when they went to the Promised Land," she added. AJ didn't have to fake her voice much, at her age boys and girls sounded the same. Mom always said it was because they hadn't hit 'pubetry' yet.
She adjusted the bandanna that covered her mouth and nose, thankful for it as wind whipped around them. AJ figured since there was no buildings there was nothing to stop the winds here. She glanced back at Trigger when asked if she was hungry. Adilina had to think about it for a moment she waited for her stomach to growl, but nothing happened. AJ shook her head, she still didn't have much of an appetite while she was out here. "No, I'm not," she turned her attention to Brother who was right beside her. AJ ran her fingers through the fur on his back and he looked up at her in reply, "like, are you hungry Scoob?" she asked him in the mock-Shaggy voice that actually wasn't all that bad of an impression. Brother turned his head back to the road, growling lowly. "Scoob isn't hungry either," she said to Trigger. AJ kept her hand on the dog's back scratching his fur gently. She had his vest in her pack, since they hadn't seen much fighting in days she'd taken it off him so he could be more comfortable. Though the dog never seemed to mind his vest much.

With a nod, Mina diverted her attention elsewhere. As long as Shaggy would have her, she didn't mind traveling with him and his canine. It was a welcome change, really. So many days she spent alone after leaving Texas that she feared she wouldn't see another soul. It was an amusing thought, to say the least. Catamina was a loner, but when the world was shot to s**t, she looked forward to coming across survivors. She would much rather fight in dozens if not hundreds of wars than to be stuck in this position, but, such the hand she was dealt. The only real question was, how long was it going to last?
Chewing on her lip, Cat readjusted the duffel on her shoulders. She was used to the heavy weight and the cumbersome bag, having spent so many years on duty, but that didn't mean it wasn't uncomfortable from time to time. Mina found herself smirking, however, when Shaggy mentioned about the naming of Jericho. "I've never thought about it that way. But you're right...It is a little strange." She chuckled briefly before her attention was set on the thicket of woods they were approaching that flanked the right side of the road. Her eyes immediately narrowed, as it was clear that they would be forced to walk through the shade that the canopied trees provided fro them. Mina's hand dropped down to her hip, slim fingers wrapping around her the Colt just in case. "Let's hurry past here, to the other side...." She knew that Shaggy didn't need a warning, but it was pertinent to her that the child knew that she was alert.
Just moving through the shaded area sent chills down her spine. Catamina straightened out, her eyes flickering from one spot in the woods to another. The last thing she wanted or needed was one of those monsters to pop out at them, especially when she felt as though they were so close. Drawing in a breath, Mina put a little pep in her step. The sunlit road ahead of them was a few yards away --- 20.....15......10.....5....until they were finally out in the open again. If she hadn't seen an infected lurking in the forest herself, she would have never believed that they were able to survive under the protection of the trees. Breathing a sigh of relief, she glanced down at Shaggy, dashing away a loose strand of hair from her face. The brunette moved to say something, but stopped in her tracks. She swung the duffel off her shoulders and rifled through the bag to grab her binoculars. There was a rather large farmhouse about a couple hundred yards away.
Lowering the device from her eyes, she nodded and then smiled. "That must be it. I don't see any movement but...at least it's out in the open." Jerking her head, Catamina started walking again, her pace a bit hastened. If there were people inside, and if they were paying attention, they would definitely see them coming. Mina didn't know if that was a blessing or a curse at that point.

Adilina's grip on her bat tightened as she moved quickly with Trigger. She didn't have to be told twice, or once. Brother had alerted her of the possible danger almost as soon as it appeared. She got about silently, Brother trailing right behind her. AJ felt a bit creeped out by the surroundings, but she tried not to let it show. After all, Trigger could only see her eyes because of the bandanna and backwards baseball cap. Adi kept low to the ground as they got through the dark as quick as they could. She hoped one of those Creepers wouldn't pop out and try to get them. She didn't want to die, or lose another person. She was starting to grow to like Trigger.
When they were finally in the light she sighed gratefully, turning immediately to pet Brother with a smile on her face. The dog seemed just as relieved. She turned her head back to Trigger when she saw her move a bit. AJ tried to see what she was looking at squinting in the same direction but her eyesight wasn't that of Superman's. So she waited for Trigger to let her know what it was. AJ listened as she talked about what she assumed was the farmhouse. She nodded a bit again, "we shouldn't go towards it head on but from the side." She didn't want to run up to the front door and be met by one of those things, "kinda check it out from a closer distance." She adjusted the straps on her large backpack definitely not made for eight and a half year olds as she tilted her head up towards Trigger, waiting for her reply.

It had taken a whole hell of a lot of effort to get Bell to let him stay at the farm, more effort than he thought it was worth really. Since arriving and getting his stab wound sealed he had been some what of a watch dog around the farm, even though she kept saying she didn't need him around. Honestly Deon was a lot harder to get rid of than people think, but he proves himself useful in almost any situation where they don't regret keeping him around. He tried to help with the farming, but was quickly turned away from helping, being that he was incapable of doing any of that work, having grown up in the cities his entire life. Deciding himself that if she was going to be letting him stay on the farm, which is something rarer than rare, he would find a way to make himself useful. The only thing he could think of, though, is keeping watch over the place while she did her farming. It wasn't for those creatures, since it was usually during the day, but from others trying to seek help from the farm.
Since arriving there hadn't been two many people that tried, one here or there, but none of them had the guts to stand up to him. Deon felt guilty, horribly guilty, for turning them away, especially in a time like this, but he did what he had to. He knew Bell's reason for not wanting him to stay, and he wasn't going to screw that up just for his sympathy reasons. She was right, there were no longer Marines to defend, but dammit, no matter what he told himself he swore to protect those who need help. It tore him apart inside, and no matter how much he argued with her he never pushed it too far, not wanting to get kicked off the farm as well. So for the time being he did as he was told, not arguing with the girl at all. After all, she knew one of her brothers in the Marines, not personally, but was familiar enough with him to know who he was and what kind of person he was like. He figured part of that had to with her letting him stay, even though he knew she wasn't going to ever admit it.
Today Deon sat just outside the farm house a few yards, standing with his shotgun in had. He normally would be sitting since the foot traffic had been slow as of late, but today felt different. For some odd reason he felt that he should be keeping better guard of the place than he normally did, really not wanting to bother Bell with anything. With someone that looked so good she had a toxic personality and sometimes it was just hard to be around her. Slinging the gun over his shoulder he paced up and down a worn path he had made, keeping an eye on the woods. That's where most of the movement came from, half the time it was the infected, other half it was just some wild animal that had managed to stay clear of any threats that presented itself in those dark woods. Yawning loudly he shook his head, trying his best to stay away. He spent most of his nights awake, maybe getting five hours at the most of sleep, but even in house he couldn't rest easily, no matter how hard he tried.
Yawning again he stopped mid yawn, something in the woods caught his eye. Quickly taking the gun from his shoulder the pointed it at the movement, waiting for it to emerge from the woods. If it was the infected it would stay and wait until night fall to make their move, but these creatures weren't the infected, in fact they weren't animals but more humans. Lowering his gun slightly he watched as they moved closer to the farm, just now making out three figures. A woman, child and a dog, though he couldn't tell just yet the gender of the child he assumed it wasn't hers. The child was much darker in skin than the woman, but that became much more clear the closer they got. As they three got closer he squinted his eyes, still slightly unable to make them out clearly, just being able to tell the child was a boy. Looking back at the farm he tried to locate Bell, but couldn't see her, so he decided to move out further to the group that was coming in, shotgun ready in hand.
Moving quickly he raised the gun at the woman, trying to show her to stop moving where she was. "Stop right there. No ones allowed on this land. I suggest you three just turn around and head..." As Deon got closer to the woman he looked at her face, nearly dropping his gun as he could see her clearly now. Shock was all over his face as he recognized his old friend Catamina Bolt from the Marines. Rushing towards the woman he grabbed her and hugged her tightly, ignoring any reacting he got from the kid or the dog. Placing his hands on her shoulders he pulled back, looking the woman over once, a big smile on his face. "Mina! What the hell are you doing here? And who's the kid?" With that he gestured towards the boy standing with her, still ignoring the dog. He had completely forgotten where he was, and all but forgotten about the wrath of Bell if he didn't turn these three around and make them leave.

"My thoughts exactly. You know, you're a smart kid. But I guess you'd have to be to survive out here..." She murmured, stepping off of the road to cross the massive corn field. Thankfully, it wasn't terribly overgrown. High stepping over the fallen stalks, Mina's eyes never left the farm house in the distance. The land directly around it was too manicured for it to be completely abandoned, and it made her uneasy. She retrieved her gun and ducked low, keeping in line with the level brush so as not to stick out like a sore thumb. Truthfully, if anyone had been watching they would have saw them regardless but Mina just hoped that wasn't the case.
"I don't see anything but...the way the grass is cut and that garden is freshly overturned makes me believe someone is there." She relayed to the child, unsure if he could see over the thicket of debris. When they had stepped onto a packed piece of dirt, with little to no cover, Mina frowned. Hearing a branch snap, she slowed her pace, raising her gun but before she could get much further, a man armed with a shotgun stepped out in front of them. Instinctively, Mina moved to stand in front of Shaggy and aimed her Colt at the male in one liquid motion, her eyes narrowing. But as they took in each others physical appearance, her arms wavered slightly. Apparently, it dawned on them at the same time. Before she knew it, his arms were around her and she gasped lightly in disbelief. When he held her at arms length, Mina laughed. "Deon! I just...I'm speechless. I didn't expect to find anyone here, let alone you of all people."
Looking down at Shaggy, she offered him a smile. "This is Shaggy and Scooby. I came across them, figured we'd travel together. I haven't seen anyone alive since Texas a few weeks ago." She explained, shaking her head. They way the words came out so easily disturbed her. This was the state of the world, now. "Shaggy, this is Deon." After the introductions, Mina looked past him at the farm house. "Are you the only one here? I only came to check up on a friend..." Her heart thudded a bit, wondering what came of him. She wouldn't have been surprised if he was dead, Mina learned long ago not to get her hopes too far up these days. Being too optimistic often came back and bit you in the a**. But that still didn't mean she wouldn't be somewhat disappointed.

Bell went about her day just like she always did, the day had started different as it normally did now something was she still trying to get use to, after all she was no longer alone after two years someone had weaseled their way into staying in her home. Deon had convinced her to let him stay, part of her agreed because his wound was still fairly infected and well she had hard time telling him to go though she did every morning with no hint of a joke in her voice. She knew she was hard to be around but why should she care. She had been so self efficient for so long that it was hard to be around someone else and it didn't help the person was a marine and male. Most of the morning had been spent cleaning the stables out and giving the horses a nice clean place to live, happily finding out that one of the mares was pregnant. There was some kind of happiness to know that the animals for the most part were unaffected by the disease that had taken so many lives. Pulling her hair back into a pony tail she continued on with her work eventually making it outside, looking to see that Deon was still being a little watch dog. Narrowing her eyes at his figure she turned away, he had tried to get her to allow people to stay but she continued to put a firm foot down with her normal answer of ******** no. Making a clicking sound Savoir walked out of his stall to her, nuzzling her hand happily when she held it out. Petting him she smiled resting her fore head against his neck, "Gotta take you out boy." He let out a neigh in response and followed her out. Letting him graze on the side of the stable she had other things to do before she could ride him.
Making her way to one of the many crops that were currently growing on the side of the house she checked to see how they were coming along, another thing she was happy that was unaffected, after all she had been eating fresh fruit and vegetables for most of her life. Only when she tried to live in New York did she eat what those people called fresh fruits and such, they were disgusting. She didn't understand how they did it. Grabbing a basket she left near the crops she started to pull some tomatoes that were ripe of their vines as well as a few other things. Humming to herself she continued to work, looking around every once in a while to see what her surroundings were like which were the same for the most part unchanging until she noticed Deon left the post he had made for himself. Letting out a sigh she placed her basket down and started to walk in the direction, holding the strap to the shot gun she refused to part with.
It didn't take her long to see that there was no long just Deon but two other figures, well three if you counted the animal. Narrowing her eyes she let out a heavy breath in anger as her feet started to pick up closing in, he was talking to them and even seemed friendly with the other female. "The two of you need to get off my land, don't make me make it three." She spoke once she was in ear range of the three, if he was giving them any sort of hope she was taking it away and no part of her horrible for it. Glaring at Deon as she got closer to the ground she placed a hand on the strap once more this time pulling it off her shoulder, she didn't aim it but she didn't want them to think she was kidding, she knew this was going to happen. You let one in and then more come. She could care less that the woman was with a child, that just meant more danger. Children wandered, they played with things they shouldn't. They did things they shouldn't. She didn't need them here and she didn't want them here, she barely wanted Deon here.

Adilina couldn't see much over the debris and brush. She stood on her tip toes to see towards the farm. She listened to Trigger's observations, thinking them over before turning her head to Brother as he stiffened and started to growl. She ducked down a bit, holding her bat at the ready, "psst, someone is coming," she whispered to Trigger. As if on cue a voice emerged from the silence. She wasn't sure what he was doing, at least until he ran over and hugged Trigger. They seemed to know each other. She blinked, standing up and lowering the bat. Adi lifted her head a bit, watching them from under the brim of her hat. The man asked who she was and Trigger began with the introductions. When Trigger introduced Brother, he only growled lowly, obviously not liking the male. Adi reached over, petting the dog comfortingly. She only nodded as she was introduced. AJ wanted to find out more about him, she didn't like new additions to groups, and tried not to get attached to anyone right from the start. That only seemed to cause problems out here. Especially if people argued a lot. She'd seen that plenty of times before she decided to stay on her own. Trigger however, seemed like she could survive out here, without dealing with anyone's issues. That's why Adi traveled with her.
Brother's head turned again as a voice called out. Adi glanced in the direction, barely able to see that there was another person here. Not as friendly as this Deon character. It was starting to seem as if they were going to need to move, or be moved. She tried to stay down, in case the woman was armed. You couldn't be too safe out here. "It doesn't sound like she's very happy," AJ told Trigger who she guessed was thinking the same thing. Or at least, she hoped she was.

Before Deon could even reply to her, a shotgun wielding brunette stepped some distance behind him. Immediately, her shoulders squared and her eyes narrowed further. Mina did not take well to be threatened. She respected the fact that it was her property, but the hostility was a little over the top. the female made no attempt to holster her weapon, but she she did spread her arms. "Don't mean to intrude, ma'am. I was merely looking for a friend before we continued on to town..." She chewed on her inner cheek, pushing back a loose strand of hair behind her ear. If she didn't want people on her land, fine. But she at least wanted to know if Damien was around. Especially now since she ran into Deon. What were the odds?
"A friend of mine used to live here....his name is Damien. Figured I'd check up on him." Cat explained, shifting her weight ever so slightly. The way this woman acted made her not want to be around long. She smirked, exchanging a glance with Shaggy before holstering her weapon. "You got that right..." She replied, agreeing with her whole hardheartedly. Catamina was not in desperate of supplies and judging by Shaggy's reaction, he wasn't either. They both had done just fine on their own so far, so they would just continue on. As for Deon, she hadn't a clue. Of course she would welcome him to join her but she wouldn't force him.
Catamina cleared her throat, readjusting the duffel on her back. "So, the town is just down that road, right?" She glanced over her shoulder, down the road. Judging by the distance on the map, they weren't far at all. She could practically spit on it. Regardless if Damien was there or not, Mina already knew she wasn't going to be staying long. This was a different world now, she didn't have the time to argue over petty things. They'd be gone soon enough.

It was stupid and reckless for him to hug the girl so suddenly, especially since she had raised her weapon at him. Deon didn't care, he knew Catamina better than he knew anyone else in this crazy world and she was too smart to shoot him. She hadn't changed much, which was really the only reason he recognized her as soon as he looked her over. He laughed at her comment, simply shrugging, knowing there wasn't much to say to that, since he hadn't expected it either. When she gestured to the boy and his dog he turned to them, giving them a big smile and wave. "Hey there, nice to meet you. You picked a good person to tag along with. She's one of the bests." As soon as she mentioned why she was here the smile disappeared from his face, knowing full well who her friend was.
Deon wanted to tell Mina he wasn't here, not at all, but his words got caught in his throat. Trying to clear his throat he hadn't even noticed Bell until she had spoke. Turning real quick he grimaced at her words, knowing full well what she was going to say to them. He took paid no mind to his threat, because at this point he would rather travel with Mina than stay on a farm where every day he was getting harassed to leave. When Mina spoke to Bell, she was clear about her intentions and was nothing but polite. When the kid spoke Deon couldn't help but smirk a little. He was quick but Bell was obvious. Shifting uncomfortably on his feet he looked between the two females, wondering how Bell would take to her brother being mentioned. It had done little for him when he mentioned the guy, so he doubted it would do little for her.

Bell watched her carefully narrowing her eyes at her until she spoke. She mentioned Damien, looking for him. Why was everything looking for him? She should have known he would have spoken about this place over seas, he was the only one that loved it here. He wanted it all and had only gotten it for a short period of time, time that he wasn't able to fully enjoy. Her face wavered for a second showing pain before it returned to being cold and emotionless. Taking a deep breath she shifted before letting out a low angry sigh, "Damien is dead. You can visit his grave by the oak tree, then I want you gone. Town is up this road, I doubt you'll find much." Narrowing her eyes at Deon for a moment she twisted around she started back up path to her home, motioning to the oak tree that was easily seen from where they were, in the back of the house. She walked quicker up to the house than she did coming down from it. For some reason Catamina asking about her brother hit her more than when Deon did. Maybe it was the fact she heard him speak about a girl once or twice, he had been jealous of her and her skills. Never once had she thought she would ever meet anyone who knew her brother and now two had showed up. She wondered what he would think of her now, he was probably disappointed in her. He would take in strays and he would most defiantly take in marines. Placing a hand on her forehead she looked over her shoulder, "The kid can take a nap if he needs it but you are gone when I say."
She continued up the path, cursing her brother mentally. Pushing her hair behind her ears she quickly made it into the house slamming the door behind her. Why did it matter so much? Why was he effecting her now. Walking into the living room she walked over to the wall that held all the pictures of her once upon a time family. Frowning she walked to to the one that had her and Damien together, him in uniform picking it up. Slamming it down she walked into the kitchen grabbing a cup from the cupboard and Whiskey, something she was finally starting to run out of, which was going to really suck. Sitting at the table she wondered what they were going to do, she figured there was a chance Deon was going to leave, something she didn't mind happening even if against her better judgement she was getting use to him being around. It was for the better, she was too bitter of a person to be around.
