¦ ♚ ¦ IF NOTHING ELSE I HAVE MY FAITH

¦ ♚ ¦
ERICA KATHERINE WOODSxxxxxxxxxxxx FEMALE ✖ 28 ✖ UNDERCOVER ✖.o.o. AMBITIOUS + DECISIVE + RELIABLE + LOYAL + ADAPTABLExxxxxxxx ⊱ Erica has been a high achiever since middle school, never once failing to be anything but excellent academically. Since secondary school this young woman had only one dream - to be a lawyer and protect the innocent from those who would use the law against them. Everything changed when her father went missing. Michael Woods, successful, determined, hard working and most importantly, his daughter's inspiration. When he disappeared Erica was, understandably, in turmoil emotionally and mentally, but even then her school work never suffered. The police did all they could given Michael was a man who went missing without a trace. Everything was left behind, his mobile phone, his credit cards, precious trinkets and even the car. Moving forward ten years and we have a woman whose ambition is unparalleled in the police force. Offers came in from different diversions but it was the idea of going undercover that appealed most to her. Leaving her mother behind she moved half way across the country to go undercover.
The ultimate aim of her mission is to use this famous, faceless vigilante to track down a notorious serial killer and, posing as the killer's accomplice, feed him information the police have until he locates the killer. Then the police plan on scooping up the killer and the vigilante - not that she rates their chances very high.

She rolled back her shoulders as though attempting to cast off some degree of the disgust she felt. It was the perfect way to get his attention, no doubt about that, but to be identified as an accomplice to some psychopath the moment she hit the city was... Well, it certainly went against her motto of making a good first impression! Unfortunately dedication to her job came at a price. With her left foot she gently rotated the bar stool and unwittingly locked eyes with your typical middle aged leering man. Perhaps if she was in possession of something above a well strapped down C cup, then she could have understood his salivating. Unless, that was, he was a leg man. The dark blue body-con dress left little to the imagination and there was just a little too much thigh for her personal taste.
But of course she wasn't herself.
Ms Erica Woods had undergone a dramatic make over and come out the other side as one Olivia Hope. Born and raised in the suburbs, a quiet kid with nothing much to say and few friends to speak of. People tended to buy that crap when it came to psychopathic killers. It was as though they refused to believe someone who acted just the way they did, could ever do something horrific. Her mind replayed the images on repeat in her head as she nursed the clear mix. She had to keep them fresh. Alive in her head, however dead the bodies were. How the flesh was cut, torn and peeled. The heart removed, the liver dissected and the kidney's nibbled tentatively.
The most dangerous killers were random. Those who were careful, controlled, planned, they could be caught in time. Their logical - or warped - thought process mimicked and eventually foiled. Someone with just enough spontaneity, however, was an issue. That's why the police needed his help.
Alcohol had never held her attention, even during those 'daring' teenage years, and combined with the leering from a drunk in the corner she was pretty sick of this place. Pushing back her drink she pushed herself off the bar stool, gently pulling at either side of her dress in order to rescue it's attempt to ride up. Midnight was nearly upon them and she had a sleazier scene to visit. How else was a nobody meant to attract the attention of the city's shady judge, jury and executioner?

His real name was unknown, then again pretty much everything about him up to this point was a lie. But that was the way an anti-hero had to live, one who could bring justice to a place as shady as this without being held back by anything. Morally Bu Yao was sound, everything he done was with good intentions. His targets were those who had done wrong, sick, cruel things. Things the police had failed to stop, things the police had failed to track. His murders were clean and efficient. Every dead body he left neatly packaged and placed in random spots before anonymously tipping the police off.
For twelve years he had been doing this, twelve years uncaught, twelve years unstopped. Reports about him had always been mixed, some people considered him a hero a blessing on the city. Others considered him as sick as those he killed, when it came down to it Bu Yao just didn't care. The only thing he cared for was what he considered a cleansing of the city. A cleansing of the evil and twisted underground markets, murders and brutality that it was famous for. Sadly what started as a personal agenda soon turned into a full time thing for Bu Yao, he was living a life of secrecy and deceit. Because of that he took many precautions to make sure that no matter what, he never failed so they could never escape.
But times have changed, his body has aged and although he's edging on forty, with all the things he's forced himself to see he feels at least sixty on an emotional level. His body appeared rugged and worn, as did his face, in a way it worked as the perfect cover up. Now because of how he looked, it meant he was often over looked as just a regular middle age man who was still trying to find his way in life. He didn't stand out physically or socially, he was the perfect shadow of society, the perfect unknown. Sadly with it came flaws. He had no friends, no love, nothing to truly call his own. All he had now was the path he had taken twelve years ago.
However, this was the first time in Bu Yao's life that someone had actually dodged him. No matter what bait he placed the killer seemed to be one step ahead, Bu Yao couldn't seem to get a name or even an appearance. With this in mind Bu Yao was beginning to feel defeated. That was until rumours stirred up of the killer having an accomplice, a woman, one who was distant from society much like himself and enjoyed the shadier places of the city. With these new facts seeming the only thing he had to work with, Bu Yao was going to hit one of the hot spots in this city, a place known as Krystal Alley. It was dark and shady place with many "Massage parlors" and bars. It was a hot spot for missing bodies, with many turning up in dumpsters or being left out in the open, no one seemed to care since the area was also a hot spot for gang fights.

With all the flare of your typical tart it seemed almost out of place that the woman didn't skip as she crossed the threshold to Krystal Alley. It was full of life - in a strange sort of way. The women giggled, glared, cheered and ran, while the men swaggered, paid and made enemies with just about anyone looking in their direction. It wasn't a place you came without a cause or without a friend. Naturally she had neither, truly. The fabrication was that she was looking for a her friend, silently impatient to sing ashes to ashes upon another corpse.
Yet rumours spread dangerously fast around predators. It had been tough work to start fanning the flames. In the beginning they had believed the killer must have an assistant, things were just a little too amazing a feat for one man, and yet, as the bodies piled up, the hunt for the accomplice died down. It had taken some time for the theory to catch on, once again, that there was a partner. The description that had been first given was female, brunette, dark eyes and a loner. What had bloomed - Chinese whispers was unavoidable in the game of life - was a mystery to her.
It was only the first week she had actually been in the city, if their magic man needed more information then it would be fed slowly and spread quickly. The last thing she needed was special attention from the criminal population and then... There was always the unpalatable chance that the unidentified killer would take offence and find 'Olivia' himself. Now that was a cheerful thought to rest on.
Another bar, another drink, another chance to experience the hotly debated 'male gaze'. This time there sat two glasses, one tiny glass void of it's bounty, and a taller glass serving as a chaser. It had taken a few months for a profile to be built. Drinking was required and earning her own money besides the pocket money that dribbled into a fake bank account. It seemed a pretty hideous life on all accounts, more so when men approached her as a prostitute, and yet somehow she couldn't find it within herself to hate it. This was a painful means to a worthy end. Getting that sick ******** off the streets was worth every damn ounce of her flesh. A life for a life. The killer was already winning by nine, Erica wasn't keen on letting him creep into those double figures and nor were the men behind this operation.
First to herald a dispute was the sound of glass, sweet as it hit the floor, followed by an upturned table and a thrown chair. The commotion played behind her and she, as cool as the other bar patrons, turned to watch as though it were a safe, scripted scene. People moved in their own damn time - or when a weapon was wielded indiscriminatingly. Her glass was refilled by some overbearing bar maid while the owner of this fine establishment had turned tail to the back room - no doubt intending to fetch a gun. His property was being destroyed and Erica didn't doubt he would want the two bickering men to pay dearly. It wasn't an uncommon scene around these parts; that was why no one else had bothered to move.

Truth be told as time kept passing him by, there were plenty of times he felt that he was as bad as the ones he killed. After all, he was calm, collected and felt nothing when taking the lives of those who had sinned. Was he a hero? A villain? He never truly knew what part of the law he stood on. All he had to go by were a fixed set of morals, of which always seemed to drag his body into choices, like a lifeless corpse with no control over where it was taken.
Of course there were times where he had to drop his own morals to discover such men, stepping foot into a shady bar known for loose women and morally declining men, this was just one of the many things he'd have to keep putting himself through to find out what he needed to know.
And so, with a heavy push of his arm, the door to such a bar swung open to reveal the same scenes that had played out in the alley. Women who were open all hours and men who couldn't enjoy anything more than to kill each other. Of course this wasn't the first time he had stepped into this bar, he had been quite a regular to over hear the shady talks and violent bursts. Some even lead him to clues of other killers and thus it became a hot spot for him. "Same as always Jin?" The bartender called out as he watched Bu Yao make his way over to the bar, only to take the same seat as always. It was one away from the usual "shows" that played out. Hidden in the shadows of the overhanging bar light, that hadn't been working since Bu Yao had first entered the bar almost two years ago. "Not today, just water please." Of course, he knew ordering water in such a place would cause suspicion but he needed that more than anything. Any way to attract the attention of anyone that could be connected, this is what he was aiming for, a risk worth taking in his opinion.

What kind of person orders water at a bar...? Had her eyes not been trained on the two figures who had regressed to crawling about the floor with on another, she might have looked for the man. But it was not her place to be interested in the environment any more than usual. With a small squeak the barstool conceded to be turned back to face the wall of alcohols, away from the fight.
What she had learned throughout most of her life was that waiting was important - very important. However, it could also be rather dull. Nothing ever really seemed to happen when you were waiting for something. Even the commotion seemed like nothing in light of who she was waiting for. Or perhaps it wasn't so much as who she was waiting for, but who would find her first. Both were, technically, killers. And both technically had a valid reason to kill her. Erica let out a small, almost inaudible sigh. What cheerful thoughts they were.
Finally with the novelty of Mr Water having worn off, the brunette took the time to glance in the direction of the new customer before swiftly dropping her eyes. Eye contact with people in these parts was generally an open invitation to more trouble than if you were to make a verbal insult. There wasn't enough light to see any fine details - not that they mattered when you were searching for two faceless men. Nevertheless, for the sake of Mr Water she would raise. Folding at this stage of the game had no advantage to playing another hand.
With her hand clasped around the tall glass she furrowed her eyesbrow and lips tightened as though in thoughts. That in itself was strange. People here didn't usually think. Her eyes softened, before narrowing and she cast a look around the room.

"Sorry darling I'm not interested." His voice was just loud enough for her to hear as his hand wrapped around the glass of water, moving it up to his lips to take a soft sip. His eyes hadn't seemingly been looking in her direction, in fact since he sat down he didn't appear to have really had his eyes open much at all. For him it had been a lucky guess, it was only natural for someone new to such a place to check out every new face. He hadn't actually noticed her glance at him, more guessed it. If he was wrong, he was wrong. It didn't really bother him too much, after all, anyone in this god forsaken city could be the assistant he was after. Even someone who appeared to be just another prostitute looking for a job.
As the glass broke away from his lips and found it's way back down to the bar, he couldn't help but notice that the commotion behind her seemed to have drawn out to silence. Now it seemed they had finally both passed out from too much liquor intake, a common end to another stupid conflict. Surprisingly even with the fight, the bar had been quieter than usual and now with the commotion out the way a few faint whispers could be heard from the back. They were speaking of yet another body found carefully cut open, one that had matched the murderer's careful planning and 'artistic placement/' This time it had been a thug and no surprises that the police gave little care to this murder, or to who could have caused it. 'Another clue overlooked because of where it is or who it is, these people consider themselves police and can't even control the law. Pathetic.' His head just shook in disapproval. He honestly didn't know what to think but refused to approach them to find out more, that risk would be too great.

Either he was unusually gifted when it came to guessing or else he was not as absent minded as he had appeared to be. Either trait was enough to set him apart from the crowd and yet she was expecting a little more flare from the man who was meant to be seeking her. Although this did not mean she could discount him so quickly, (who better to be a killer in the name of justice than someone unremarkable?) it did not mean she would set her target just yet. Regardless of his well timed comment, Erica ignored his words in favour of ignorance.
No point in back chatting to a man not in need of a whore. Except if that made had chosen a rather rough, seedy bar known for it's strong under the counter beverages. Yet he had, presumably, refused sex, seemed in no rush to find a sparring partner and drank water. And Erica thought she didn't belong here!
As the rumours spread from one mouth to two ears she tucked absently upon strands of her hair. Loners didn't run into groups of people and ask details, though her natural instinct would have her perform in a very different way. When three syllables arose 'The Artist' she shuffled slightly and rose from her seat. It was a rather flattering name for a serial killer, and one she didn't much care for. Erica would soon see if anyone in the room had the wit to put the sound of a name and the leaving of a woman together. If not she would try another night.
No one said this job was going to be quick.

As the name of the killer was spoken, a screech of a nearby stool was easily detectable. As his attention to the room became slightly more prominent, a single eye slowly opened to spot the girl who, he had spoken just a sentence too earlier, had now risen from her chair. He kept his movements soft, making it seem as if the noise had slightly startled his attention before he returned his attention back to his drink. His plan was to finish it before seeking to follow her, leaving just enough space between the two to seem as unsuspicious as possible. Of course if she were to have anything to do with such a killer, she'd probably be on the prowl to take a man such as himself out. After all, he remained the only real risk against the killer, he was just as undetectable, if not more so.
"Ey, where you goin' baby, stay for another round. I'll treat you like the princess you deserve, the one daddy never could afford." A dark and crackled voice called from the back, it was obviously from a heavy smoker. The voice in question seemed to be aimed towards the girl who was now stood quite idly by her seat. Bu Yao didn't know what to think of the new situation at hand, if anything it was an annoying obstacle in him finding out more. It was obvious the man in question had a fair bit of money, for starters he had enough 'bling' on him to sink a small boat and a rather attractive hooker on each arm. Sadly the whole thing had nothing to do with him, this mans crimes were barely able to put him on Bu Yao's list. Right now, he had a more important target to deal with and with that in mind, he decided to just ignore it and allow it to play out the way they wanted it to.

Was it contempt, or disgust that passed across her face? Within a fraction of a second the slate was wiped clean. Decorated only by the lips which naturally flicked downwards as though in sober thought or grime determination. It was expression enough to speak volumes. Outfit or not, she was no whore. Or, at least, not your typical prostitute. Erica's eyes did not bother to hold the man for much longer than her disdain was visible.
In this story she had somewhere to be, someone to meet, and it was certainly not 'big' time player and his women. She left in silence, expecting some kind of insult or lewd comment to follow in her wake. Men did not always take kindly to reject in these parts - but he seemed to have enough worldly objects to happily lose a small, yet expensive, treasure such as herself.
