It sounds like he's been upset about something for a while and the salsa was the last straw. I would normally recommend having a heart-to-heart talk with him that includes your brothers, but if he keeps avoiding you guys, such a thing should probably wait until later, when he's more willing to talk. You should try and find out what his real problem with you is and try to work out a solution together. That would be the adult thing to do.
Going through your mom is probably not a good idea. It puts you and your dad as opposing sides with her in the middle. Each side will want Mom to come to their corner, and will feel betrayed when she doesn't back them up. That's a difficult position to be in, and it's unfair when somebody forces someone they love into that position.
