My old phone is driving me crazy. I will literally spend 20 minutes just trying to click on 'send' to reply to a text message while trying not to erase all of my contacts, or I'll press 'answer call', and then my phone will decide that I actually meant to tap the button in the opposite corner and end the call.

So, my dad and I are looking at Virgin Mobile because we like their prepaid plan. The phone that we were gunning for was at first out of stock, and now apparently discontinued. So now we're a bit lost.

Does anyone have any recommendations or even heard anything good about any phone in particular here? Preferably not one of the phones that are $200+.

My advice is to wait until the iPhone 5 is released next month. Currently you can get an unlocked 4s from eBay or Craigslist for around $450, but after the iPhone 5 they should fall close to your target price-range.

Just choose a highly reputable seller, and if you get the phone from CL do the standard procedure of meeting them at a cellular network store. ( in this case, I believe T-Mobile) When the phone is confirmed to be a VM phone or carrier unlocked you close the deal.

My family uses Verizon.
It's not that badly priced considering how well they have the US covered with cell towers.

Verizon was the only phone carrier that had service in a small pundit town in Ohio that I was unwillingly dragged to.

@ Toon, It's a good idea, but I'm not sure I'm in the market for an iPhone yet. And then the problem is that I've had less than appealing experiences with non-smartphone touchscreens so I'm basically ready to swear them all off, except that there's not a single phone under Virgin Mobile's $35/month plan that doesn't have a touchscreen.

@ Cherry, Verizon has better reception for sure, and we're on Verizon right now, but my dad's pretty set on me switching to Virgin Mobile. It's just cheaper.

@ Kitty, I was the same way until senior year sweatdrop Which I guess is how I put up with my phone until now.

@Ivy: Ah, I see. : D How do you feel about the Samsung Montage or M575? No touchscreens, and Samsung makes a pretty durable feature phone.

I will keep Samsung in mind. I did like the ones you mentioned, but my dad was all "but they're not under the same plan." Apparently the best option with those phones is the $30/month plan, where you get 1500 minutes and messages. But under a different plan, with an extra $5/month, you get 300 minutes, but unlimited messages and data.

So I think at this point, it's going to be one of the following: LG Rumor Touch, Samsung Intercept, or Optimus Slider.

What about the HTC One V and Evo V? Android 4.0 is a pretty huge selling point because it's the first version of Android that really rivals iOS.

There's no lagging or stuttering, it's glorious.

They are glorious looking, but I don't have the guts to ask for phones that cost so much :'D When I start earning my own money, it'll be a different story.

edit: Okay, so apparently my dad got sick of waiting for me to figure it out, so he just went ahead and ordered the Optimus Slider... at least he chose one that gets a free month of service.
