This is back-dated to an unnamed time before Now. Rivers' Guard is a glory that has a long history in their current territory, and Auryn has been the leader for some time now.
Current was an elder unicorn long beloved and respected by her Glory, and oftentimes beyond. Blessed with ability great even in the eyes of the unicorns, Current's past accomplishments were often whispered about great feats.
But time marches on, and there is an end even for the great. It was time for The Rivers' Guard long-time leader to end her chapter, and to choose a her replacement.
Would it be Swift? One of Current's eldest and most venerated daughters? Perhaps it would be soft-spoken, but well accomplished BlueBell. Would she break tradition and choose a male leader? Praen was well accepted by unicorns in many territories.
It never occurred to any within her Glory that she would choose one that wasn't her own blood.
Auryn? The dark-coated lightning unicorn who had fallen in with a storm? The lad hadn't even a memory when the winds dropped him in, and they'd called him StormChaser for weeks before he remembered his own name. A lightning-based unicorn, one that didn't have the close relationship with the rivers all the past unicorns had held? Truly?
But Current was well-beloved, and greatly trusted. Even as she called Auryn forth, she gave him a command. His leadership would not be secure unless he would be the mate of her spirited granddaughter, Wysteria. Dear Wysteria, the daughter of well-respected Swift, the daughter of their great leader Current. Though sometimes hot-headed and narrow-focused, Wysteria had two generations of wisdom poured into her head, and had proved her decision making wise in face of turmoil. Wysteria was strong enough, and known. She would be a good match to Auryn.
Over the years, Auryn had gained a reputation of being a great, guiding Teacher. He was a fair unicorn with a true passion to see the right balance. He was lighter tongued than Wysteria, but powerful and had a good presence about himself.
Yes, Auryn would do. He would have enough support to start. The question would eventually come whether or not the support was enough to sustain, but during Current's final days and the days thereafter, Auryn's place a Rivers' Guard's leader was secure.

To say the beginning of Auryn and Wysteria's relationship as mates was rocky would be an occasional understatement. Never having even a moment of courting before Wysteria's grandmother placed them together, along with the added responsibility of being the leaders-promised, there was a lot of learning meant to happen before they would become a team.
Spirited and active was a kind way to describe Wysteria. Spoiled and hot-tempered might sometimes have been more accurate. The whole Glory had celebrated at her birth, and had never stopped favoring her antics. A competitive and bull-headed leadership were qualities they unwittingly fostered in her, even as her wise grandmother and mother attempted to temper their daughter's natural inclination to activity and loud-mouthing.
Despite an uncertain and late beginning within Rivers' Guard Glory, Auryn proved to be quite intelligent, easily adapting to the glory, and readily becoming involved in the day-to-day activities and responsibilities. He was sometimes prideful, and often over-confident in his ability to take on challenges that came his way, but he was also ever-watchful of those around him. Unlike Wysteria, Auryn knew even in the heat of a moment how to remember all the small pieces and surrounding creatures that needed to be considered. He defined "winning" completely different from her nature, but completely in tune to her upbringing.
And it was Auryn, not Wysteria, named as leader both of their family and of Rivers' Guard.
Because Wysteria was stubborn and angered, she chose to fight about everything. Because Auryn couldn't tolerate the type of selfish bull-headedness Wysteria immediately started to display with him, he flaired back at her.
So they fought, and the Glory had a hard time remembering they were meant to side with Auryn more than Wysteria.
Within the Glory, it became worse when Wysteria's fighting seemed to lose the hot, angry edge and started to become emotional. Slowly, she stopped picking fights out of pure spite, and seemed to start flying more into emotional tirades. There was a difference. One was arguing for the sake of arguing, and the Glory knew well enough to allow the new mates alone enough over such pettiness. This new arguing was less spirited, and more tender.
Wysteria tender?
What was that horrible, strange Stormchaser doing to their ever-wonderful child?
For a time, Auryn was practically outcasted. It was during this time that Current supported him the most, until Swift stepped forward to accuse.
But it was Wysteria to put an end to it, running to Auryn's defense and declaring his goodness and perfection and.... wonder of wonders.... admitting her own faults that day, and publicly asking forgiveness. Even Wysteria seemed shocked for such behavior from herself, but it quieted the crowd.
It was a quiet that turned to celebration. Before the month was out, the cause was understood.
That wonderful, welcomed Stormchaser had given foals to Wysteria, and all the tenderness was the blossoming of her own maternal instincts.
Certainly there were rocks still. There was learning to be done, but it was certain now. Auryn and Wysteria were partners more than by duty and call now.
Tinder was the eldest son, and his name a double-meaning. He was blessed with the fiery sparks of his father, and likely the firm conviction and spirit of both parents, but most of all he had brought the blessing of tenderness to Wysteria, and to Rivers' Guard Glory. As Wysteria had been the apple of the glory's eye before, Tinder was well set to become the new beloved child.
