ANNIE | CERISE | HORSESHOE | LASSO

There's a theme going on here...
PostPosted: Thu Aug 16, 2012 1:30 pm

♘ YOUNG GIRL

Name:
      Annie Bodwain

Color:

Age:
      8

Nationality:
      American

Home/Financial Status:
      Lower Middle Class

School:
      Teufel Town Elementary

Personality:
When it comes to the everyday - from the mundane to the extraordinary - Annie is zealous to the point where it becomes overly so. She gets excited over the smallest of things (doubly so if they're new to her) and reacts to each thing she encounters with a mixture of grating inquisitiveness and jerky gusto. Annie is the type who will ask questions until blue in the face; the sort who will ask 'why?' to an answer given to a previous question. She's not doing it to be intentionally annoying, but she's at that age where the world is massive and she wants to learn about and be a part of every little tidbit of it - past, present, and future.

As well as being zealous, Annie is vivacious and amicable. She has an all inclusive personality, wanting EVERYONE to get in on whatever's going on. Of course, since not everyone wants to get in on such things all the time, Annie can be left more than a little hurt by snubbing. If she is denied, she is liable to get teary-eyed long before hitting the tantrum point and it's quite clear she's the emotional sort. Things of a sad or romantic nature are easily able to work some tears out of her while action or triumph will have her screaming down the halls in victory for whoever is having such good luck at the time. She laughs easily - though at times just because others are laughing, not because she knows what's going on - and when she is having a tantrum it can be a force to be reckoned with.

By her very nature - and a good upbringing by all members of her family, brother not always withstanding - Annie is the helpful sort. Every now and again her report cards will have a notation that she's a joy to have in class because of this inclination. Annie will happily chip in to help others with their work, share her things, etc, but as with everything, she is liable to take this a little over the top with her zealousness. That is to say, Annie will try to "help" with things that are perhaps too big for her to do with and in the most annoying way possible. This is beyond handing daddy a wrench when he fixes his car and more along the lines of trying to push her way into helping and not leaving the person who needs the help alone until they cave in and give her something to help with. Annie will hover with the best of them and all because she innocently believes that she can do her part too.

Despite her inherent magnetism, however, Annie is still young and thus her enthusiasm and constant chattering can come off as grating, as mentioned before. As well, factoring in her exuberance, it's no surprise she has her parents and teachers at their wits end with her talking. Annie is a Chatty Cathy, no doubt about it, and even warnings only serve to delay her, not end her. She will go on forever about the things she likes (prepare for several hours on horses, rodeos, and western movies as well as watercolors, what she did in school that day, and her favorite desserts) and regularly fall into tangents just to keep the conversation going. She doesn't like being ignored either, and as well as following her "conversation partner" around, Annie will nose her way into other peoples' conversations in order to be a part of the topic somehow. Even if she's not entirely sure what the topic is, she'll voice her half thought out two cents and delight if cooed at for her "maturity", "humor", or all the other things her mother's friends say when she happens upon them when they visit.

A good nature plus a constantly running mouth would probably make for a decent gossip among friends. Annie is unaware 'gossip' is a thing, but that's not to say she isn't exposed to it and doesn't pick what's said around her up like a particularly hungry sponge, only to blurt it out later as some off color tangent or offhandedly thrown out piece of dialogue. One of her mother's nightly terrors is the thought of Annie unintentionally spewing out some guff she heard from her or her father and their friends and her brother loathes to have her around him and his friends in part for that very reason. She doesn't mean to spill the beans, sometimes it just comes out!

Appearance:
Standing at a solid four feet, two (and a quarter) inches tall, Annie is typical for her age. She has a lithe build that has lovingly earned her the nickname "String Bean" from her parents and weighs fifty-eight pounds even. She is caucasian, but a lot of time in the park and her back yard has given her a very light tan, the likes of which doesn't hide the generous helping of freckles on her face and shoulders. Her eyes are a hue of pink-red called cerise and stand out on her round face and beneath her apricot colored hair. Her hair is medium length, lacking bangs, and curly; but despite her mother's wishes that she'd keep it free Annie prefers keeping her hair tied back in two loose pigtails.

When it comes to clothing, Annie isn't picky. Generally her outfits are the colorful sort that can take extended periods of outside play and because of that show a lot of wear and tear (holes in the knees of her overalls, grass stains on her shirts, etc) but now and then she likes to put on a pretty sundress with some nice sandals - usually when she goes on an outing with her family on a nice spring or summer day. Even though she's not entirely picky, Annie does have favorites in her wardrobe. These favorites are her "AUTHENTIC" cowboy boots and her equally "AUTHENTIC" cowboy hat - both gifts from her grandfather last Christmas. Both of these are leather brown and Annie does her damnedest to make one or both a part of every outfit - much to her mother's dismay.

History:
Annie's history is short as she herself is but eight years of age and still has a lot of life to live. Born eight years after her brother Justin to Marcus and Cora Bodwain, Cora has had what she perceives is a regular life. Food on the table, toys at the appropriate holidays, school, friends, and a roof over her head - life is good.

A happy surprise (her parents had been discussing having another child when it was discovered Cora was pregnant), Annie was born on the fifteenth of May at 3:26pm in Teufel Town General Hospital. She was a healthy baby and grew up happy, living with her family in a small, one level home in the Apple District. When she was three, her maternal grandmother died and her maternal grandfather moved in with them, which prompted her family to turn their den into an extra bedroom. Although the addition did put some strain on the family as far as resources and time went, Grandpa Jim proved to be invaluable as both a general around-the-house helper and a babysitter. With Jim a part of the live in family now, Annie's mother was able to go back to work and help with the bills and other such necessities of life, a thing that helped in the long run when Annie became old enough to attend school, but also secured Annie's strong bond with her grandfather as she grew up under his watch and care.

As she grew older, and despite being enrolled into school at five, Annie became quite attached to her grandpa and the notion was shared right back by Jim. Although she loved both her parents as any child does, Grandpa Jim was just something special. He was filled from top to toe with stories (with candy filling his coat pockets somewhere in between) about things that sparked Annie's imagination and always willing to stretch the little things because 'some laws are meant to be broken'. From delaying bedtime for an extra fifteen minutes so they could finish a movie to giving each of his grandchildren a little extra helping of dessert, there was nothing neither Annie could find wrong about her grandparent. Of course these habits stressed her parents, but as this topic was never brought up in front of her, Annie was unaware of the problems' existence. Grandpa Jim was just the best, that was that, and one of the many things that made him the best in Annie's books - even beyond free candy, stories, and extra awake time - was his movies.

Jim, as many elderly people are, was fond of the past. How life used to be; from the wars to the culture to the music and most definitely the movies. Now and again he would go on short rants about how today's world didn't make things like they used to, and would give show-and-tell style examples via playing music and showing movies from when he was a boy (where his grandfather showed him the classics he was showing her now). When it came to the past the thing Jim enjoyed most was the days of the Old West. Manifest Destiny. Wagon trains, cowboys and Indians, the gold rush, settlers, guns, and rodeos. As this was, it was no surprise that Jim's massive collection of movies was mostly comprised of western movies and he watched them often, Annie just as often present. Naturally, with how often she was under Jim's care, it didn't take Annie long to fall just as much in love with them as her grandfather.

The movies - and the tales her grandfather told her about those times - regaled and delighted Annie. Her brother, now in his teens and growing out of "childish" and "dumb" things, spent less and less time with his two family members in order to do his own thing. At first this did hurt Jim - all he wanted was to spend time with BOTH of his grandchildren - but he came to accept that his grandson was just going through the motions of being a teenage boy and he still had Annie to entertain; which she most assuredly was. In no time at all she was coaxing the kids at recess to play cowboys and Indians or rodeo, galloping around the Bodwain yard at home on an imaginary palomino pony, using her jump rope to lasso the fence posts, and talking nonstop every chance she could about how cool gunfights and cowboys were and - of course, as every girl goes through this phase at least once - how much she loved and dearly wanted a horse of her own.

This latter notion had her parents amused and yet more than a little annoyed. On one hand, it was cute to see their daughter in the throes of passion over such a girly thing. On the other, the constant babble did get tiring, especially when her grandfather did nothing but encourage her even in lieu of after bedtime talks about how it wasn't good to get her hopes up with promises none of them could keep with money as tight as it was. Despite the arguments, to Jim it was harmless fun, especially when he pointed out he used the word 'maybe' when saying if Annie kept her grades up there was a chance of her getting that pony. Besides, he would say mildly in addendum, it couldn't be such a daydream if Cora won the lottery game she always played.

Family:
Marcus Bodwain: Annie's father. A TV repairman who was recently laid off, Mark spends a lot of his time job searching at the moment, but does what he can to squeeze in time with his kids. Like his wife, he can get rather blown away by his daughter's enthusiasm but unlike Cora this is done in a rather amused fashion. He's not a fan of his wife playing the lottery as often and as much as she does and even though they both try to hide it from their kids, this is the biggest target that can set off arguments between them.

Cora Bodwain: Annie's mother. She's a grade school teacher who is trying hard to make ends meet since her husband was laid off from his repair job. Like most adults, she plays the lottery in hopes to strike it big but so far has come just short of the big bucks many a time. She loves Annie but is constantly exasperated by her zealousness and her father's unwillingness to stop encouraging her.

Justin Bodwain: Annie's brother. He's sixteen and a junior in high school. Big on the skater scene and wanting to be one of the 'cool kids', he's at that age where he doesn't want to babysit his little sister and throws a hissy every time he's stuck with her for more than five minutes - ESPECIALLY in public. When he's not out on the town he's most commonly found in his room.

Jim Halifax: Annie's maternal grandfather. Long retired, Jim has lived with his daughter and her family after his wife died five years ago. He's the one responsible for Annie's fixation with horses and rodeos and despite how exasperated that makes his daughter and son-in-law, he happily encourages Annie with many Western movies and tales of the Old West.

♘ PUELLA MAGI

Language:
      English

Desires:
A pony. Yes, I'm serious; she wants a pony for her wish (well more a full sized horse but I digress). I know this might not seem serious (in part because it's not really) but Annie is a little girl who obviously cannot comprehend consequences or putting deep thought into a wish. Yes it is a selfish wish, and yes it's probably a bit derp due to other peoples' wishes being more serious, but that's just it - I want to see a girl with a lighthearted wish. c:

Emblem:
      Horseshoe

Weapon:
      Lasso

Type of Magic:
Annie's magic deals with control, specifically that of animals. Using her lasso she can temporarily "hypnotize" them to make use of their special talents (which is every day/general abilities, nothing crazy). She can't speak to them telepathically or whatnot, but she would still have full control over any animal she has under her spell. For example, she could use a mouse to get through a small opening and unlock a door or use a dog to track another Puella's scent. In battle Annie can control a Witch's minions while inside a Barrier, using them to attack their Witch or help her allies, and she can also tether and tie things up with her rope as well.

I'm still thinking of a solid time limit for her ability, but it might be an average length of time (thirty minutes?) that can be shortened by the number of animals or witch minions she has lassoed at the time. More under her spell, the less time she has to control them. Other than that, however, overusing her magic or pushing the duration would leave her exhausted in the best oc cases, knocked out cold in the worst. Annie also could not immediately lasso another creature after her time limit for the previous one times out. She'd need a grace period to recharge to start, but as she develops her magic, she should be able to lessen this effect.

Outfit:
FREAKING. COWGIRL. THEMED. YOU SEE THIS LITTLE GIRL? SHE LOVES PONIES AND RODEOS AND WESTERNS (THANKS GRANDPA) SO YOU BET YOUR a** SHE'D LOOK LIKE A COWGIRL AS A PUELLA MAGI. I'M TALKING COWBOY BOOTS, COWBOY HAT, THE WHOLE NINE.

In all seriousness, cowgirl theme. I swear to god I saw a movie or something where these ladies were dressed up as showy cowgirls with dresses made out of shiny, metallic-looking cloth with that fluffy under-dress stuff to make the skirt poof out, stitching, those tassel-y bits under the arms/across the back, boots, hats, gloves that had wide cuffs, some sort of decorative belt across their middles, maybe a bolo tie - the whole package. I can't remember what the hell it was from but that's pretty much how I see Annie's Puella form looking...with the obvious Puella Magi details.

♘ WITCH

WITCH FORM:
Name:
      Jane

Type:
      Rodeo Witch

Description:
A rodeo witch with a stressed nature. Although the leading attraction, her rodeo is slowly withering away beneath her despite the efforts of her minions to keep her show going on. It seems Jane doesn't want to be in the spotlight anymore.

Nature:
      Stress

Appearance:
Jane's appearance is rundown. Tattered and torn, her body is a cross between a headless mechanical bull and a western-style saddle that is covered with a stretched sheet of patchy, palomino-colored leather held in place by six studs (think the sort that are found on jean jackets). A beaten looking sheriff's star is pinned over her left shoulder. Jagged, rusty metal bits poke through at her joints like spurs especially at the legs. Jane's legs are beneath her saddle-like body (where the mount of a mechanical bull would be). She has four of them - all rusty metal - that are jointed, close together, and unusually spindly. When she runs, Jane's legs fly upward and outward to almost comical lengths, but give her an erratic, uncontrollable gait. The pommel of her saddle body is long - almost like a neck in length - and has a pink ribbon tied around its middle. On the opposite end there is a horse-like tail made of rope, twine, or yarn held in place by a nail on the rump of the witch.

*Given her appearance is reliant on metal and leather, I would prefer the medium the artist uses be digital art. That should be easier on you I would hope, and you wouldn't have to explain why there are pieces cut out of your leather jacket/sofa/car interior. >A>

Barrier/Maze:
The theme of Jane's maze is the rodeo/Wild West shows. Her maze is quite open, ringed with towering audience stands of various states of filled seating covered with old timey-styled posters of the attractions to come. The floors are dry dirt that plumes upward with each step taken and are littered with animal pens, hoofprints, fencing, snack food litter, and all manner of other things western. Horseshoes are found in comically (or unsettingly) high piles here and there and saddles line some of the fences. Although this is an active rodeo, the colors are quite faded here - paint chipped and peeling in places where the minions have yet to tidy up. The clink of spurs, the sound of hoofbeats, and the distant whinny of horses is common noise here. Looking up, the ceiling of Jane's maze is that of a sunny high noon but with blackened caricatures of bronco riding and cattle wrangling moving about on its face yet casting no shadows. The door to Jane's room comes in the form of a saloon at the end of a row of main street western movie buildings - an infamous place where the cowboy and desperado would have their standoff before the quick draw.

Location:
Anna District. Jane's influence has made those near her barrier rowdy, uncontrollable, and unpredictable like the bulls and broncs ridden at rodeos. Some may even experience mob mentality, as that behavior is exhibited commonly at high energy events by groups of people.

Attack(s):
Speed is the name of this Witch's game and she attacks and defends using quick gait and high jumps. Her primary attack would be to simply charge full tilt at her attackers, attempting to crush them beneath her hooves. Kicking and rearing back to thrown her weight down and create a shockwave are also common. If her attackers prove to be lithe and quicker than she is, Jane will grow her rope/twine tail out in an attempt to lasso them and either throw them or bring them close enough to stomp (each strand can be controlled individually - think a plush toy horse with a yarn tail rather than an actual horse). She can also "peck" at her opponents with her pommel by throwing her top half down toward the ground. Since her Nature is 'stress' her movements are erratic and unpredictable - she acts like a wild mustang fighting capture; bucking, kicking, and rearing to avoid being broken.

Grief Seed:
The emblem found inside the Grief Seed would be a horse's head (think in a pose similar to that of a knight chess piece, except the horse in the Grief Seed would have a bridle and reins). The theme would obviously be rodeo, so perhaps the part of the seed that surrounds the emblem looks like rope and the emblem that tops the seed (like how a Puella's emblem tops her Soul Gem) would be a horseshoe to keep it tied to Annie.

MINION #1 FORM:
Name:
      John

Duty:
      Entertainment

Description:
While the rodeo slowly dies, the show must go on! John's duty is to provide entertainment between acts and as such he looks like a rodeo clown painted in runny watercolors on cardstock. He is as flat as they come - as is his act - but he tries his best to keep the audience entertained while Bill tries to coax Jane out of her dressing room.

Appearance:
John is cute but also a little creepy. A cardstock cutout of a clown painted with vibrant watercolors, John's charming appearance ends when one realizes his colors are running and smudged, and his face is blank save for a runny, leering red smile that stretches from ear to ear.

Attack(s):
John attacks through trickery and numbers. Much like a rodeo clown, this minion takes to hiding in the barrels and other litter that is scattered about, attacking anyone he can when they're close to his hideout. Although he is flimsy, he is smart and it's not unknown for one to act as a lure to lead any trespassers into an ambush. They try to beat on their target, but find using props tends to work better. Two or three can fit comfortably in a barrel and roll it, for instance.

MINION #2 FORM:
Name:
      Bill

Duty:
      Management/Support

Description:
While John is out front to keep the masses placated while the rodeo suffers a slight hitch, Bill is with his witch. It is his job to make sure the rodeo runs as smoothly as possible but Jane is putting a crimp in his plans and refusing to perform. Although frustrated, he is loyal and tries his best to offer the witch morale support in order to get her out and performing again, but so far his attempts are in vain.

Appearance:
Bill is as flat as John but less colorful. Where John is watercolors and cardstock, Bill is wood and black paint. His appearance is that of those leaning cowboy cutouts and he stands at about 6' even. The only stand out thing about him - besides the fact he can move on his own - is the bright red bandanna that has been tied around his throat.

Attack(s):
Bill is the more straightforward combatant. Where John hides and uses makeshift weapons, Bill is the gunslinger and unlike his real world counterparts he is not stuck in one pose forever and his undetailed surface hides a six shooter...that fires phosphorous blanks to blind. Like John, Bill also makes use of cover when attacking and even ambushes opponents - however he merely slides into narrow spaces to get around and shoot from the hip. His gun is loud and if more than one Bill is present, they could team up to cause a lot of confusion and mayhem for those who entered the Barrier.
