I got to a locked room with a storybook in it and the game crashes when I try to read it. Considering going back would lead to an evil woman painting killing me I'm assuming that this is the only path forward.

Well, she is fuggin' psychotic.
No. There's a hidden event that I came across, and she asks: 'What would you do if only 2 people could escape here?' and, well, that's exactly what. She attempts to kill you or garry so she can escape with the remaining one. SHES JUST LONELY, OKAY?

Succeeded. IB now has a crazy demon b***h for a sister. And nobody questions the western looking child in a family with two eastern parents.
I kind of want there to be a sequel.... And I'm kinda pissed at Gary. If you let Mary be all happy'n free'n s**t, sure. She basically murders him. But that's because you made him take all the a*****e options and the entire art world hates him at that point. But if Gary doesn't end up giving her his rose, there's a stitch. Either you leave s**t well enough alone, or you go upstairs and kill Mary. He doesn't let you leave s**t well enough alone. He could've just let you leave, get back to the real world, and have Mary follow you so that the creepy demon child and the old guy live. But no. Gary insists that you go up the damn stairs.
