Arceus, he was going to drive her /insane/.
Did the man just never sleep? He was usually awake and /talking/ to himself when Tambrey tried to sleep and he was leaping out of windows or /still/ talking to himself when she woke up!
Escaping the room had seemed a good idea, but it did mean she'd have to settle for the coffee supplied by the base.
At least she could get something strong even if it didn't taste wonderful.
Uniformed, mostly (sans hat, which she was currently carrying instead of wearing), she chose to make for the cafeteria and one of the machines designed for self service.
It was a while before she had to start her shift in the labs, but she really needed 'refuelling' after a restless sleep. She'd been left slightly grumpy and knew it; the fact a recent bruise on her leg still ached quite a bit wasn't helping her mood much either.
A line of a couple of people and... the machine seemed to be 'playing up', she noticed.
Perhaps futilely, she hoped that it might remain in working order, at least for coffee, when it came to her turn.
On some level, though, she was sure it wouldn't and rubbed at the bridge of her nose, under her glasses, in frustration.

Tris would have loved to be sitting at her table, already stocked with a plate, a bagel sandwich (one third cream cheese!) and a danish, reading the latest law review while her damn spinerak munched on arceus-only-knows-what and stared at her lovingly even as she ignored them. Well, the spinerak part was there: Timothy had finished his mystery meal and looked like he was contemplating the bagel. He had better not touch her breakfast!
Because instead of at her table, she was in line for coffee. Shitty coffee, but it worked. She began tapping her feet- in a pair of nice shoes. She was dressed very respectably today, looking for all the world like a normal, law-abiding businesswoman, and not like a lawyer who's entire goal in life was to exploit the law.
She was well dressed because she had a consultation later that day.. but much later. Admittedly, she was working in organization today, so the rocket uniform wouldn't be so taboo, but she needed the respect that the mauve suit gave her as a professional, not her trainee uniform. Definitely not her Trainee uniform.

So, here she was, in the cafeteria, getting her breakfast with hours to spare before she had to do anything. Contrary to some popular opinion, the woman did like her downtime. Just occasionally.
And she had managed to get most of todays paperwork out of the way last night, in a stroke of luck that even surprised her. A stroke of luck and a shocked glance at the clock which told her that she really really should be sleeping.
Hence... the coffee.
The line seemed to crawl along. It would be just her luck if the damn thing broke. Good luck was so often followed by bad...
“So, How long have you been waiting?” she asked the woman in front of her, unintentional contempt- either for the machine or the world, it was hard to tell- crept into her voice.

(O.O Wow. three tries.)

Tambrey blinked, shaken out of her half daze after she'd zoned out thoughtfully. Waiting in line always seemed to send her off daydreaming and she mentally cursed the fact as now she felt awkward.
Well the woman behind couldn't have been trying to get her attention for long surely, she realised, as she processed the question.
Turning her head, she blinked behind her glasses, surprised at seeing the sort of person she might refer to as 'a suit' in line for coffee.
Well, she didn't /look/ like any of the higher ups that Tambrey knew or knew of; then again they /did/ get transferred in sometimes, she knew that.
Logically though, she supposed, why would a higher rank be in this line for coffee? Well, once upon a time Lore might've done it, maybe, but this woman didn't seem much like him.
So, a 'suit' who wasn't...
She realised she'd been quiet for about a second too long, looking at and trying to figure out the smart woman behind her... With a Spinerak on her shoulder. Huh.

"Uh.. Not too long really." Tam' replied at last. "Maybe five minutes? 'S some problem with the machine a moment ago; 'm hoping 's not completely broken, though that'd be likely." A smile fought the grump; wouldn't be fair to let it out on others.

“Hmm.”
Tris decided she hated coffee machines. She barely looked at the other person, staring intently at the front of the line as if she could burn away the other people standing in it with a gaze. Which she could not.
She would have stopped paying attention to the person standing in front of her in line- who was probably someone irrelevant to her anyway- if Timothy hadn't decided to be himself.
He loved people! He hadn't met this one before! So he did what he always did to say hi: Namely. pounce on their head and sit there, chittering happily.
Tris's attention snapped back to the person in front of her, and her face turned red. Damn it.
“Timothy!” she said, exasperatedly attempting to remove the spinerak... which had gleefully nuzzled into Tambrey's hair.
She hated being humble. She hated apologizing. So it was with much annoyance that Tris apologized.
“I'm sorry about this. Timothy is very enthusiastic when it comes to people...” she grimaced, trying to remove it without pulling out the other person's hair. Timothy, of course, being Timothy, mistook her actions for petting and nuzzled in closer, chittering happily.
“I have been trying to teach him decorum but he INSISTS on breaking it.” She glared at the very content spinerak.

Well, okay; Tambrey could already tell Tris' attention was moving elsewhere and seemed accepting enough of that until something she'd not really paid proper attention to before seemed to fly from the other woman's shoulder and attempt to usurp the usual position of her hat, while it was still off of her head.
"Gah!" She half raised her hands defensively and half-'slid' into an almost fighter-like stance before she caught herself mid-startle, mind playing back what had just flown at her and was currently occupying her head.
Her eyes, though they couldn't see him, rolled upwards (with the unfortunate effect that she just slightly tilted her head upward, possibly making it a tiny bit more awkward to retrieve Timothy as she moved).
A Spinerak was nuzzling her hair.
Well that was a lot nicer than the Spinerak she spent the most time with; this one was more like the little bugs she'd grown used to growing up- a cute little spidery thing.
She grinned as Timothy, apparently, seemed to think he was being petted up there, wincing a little when her hair was pulled, but more amused than bothered by the pokémon on her head.
"Hey, 's fine; he's still better 'n mine. Much nicer. She'd have tried t' chew through my skull by now if she got up there... " She grinned, it was (she hoped) a bit of an exaggeration. "Timothy, hm? 'S nice t' meet you Timothy." She called up, before trying to tilt her head down and move accordingly to see if she could make retrieving the bug easier.
"He's really cute."

Tris grimaced.
“I suppose he is..” she muttered, trying, still unsucessfully, to get her spinerak off of the other's head.
She gave up.
She hadn't been hoping for 'cute' when she had gotten the spinerak as a trainee, while she was still apprenticed to that idiot, yellow-bellied lawyer.

“When I received him..” she berated herself for mentally using the word 'got', “I had been hoping for something a bit less... friendly.”
She glowered at nothing in particular, then shrugged.
“Though I suppose his temperment is preferable to what you described.”
She sighed inwardly. Well. Since Timothy had decided to nest in the other person's hair, she resigned herself to talking to this person. Why not. The line was interminable, she was bored, and one day she might have to provide her services to this person.
She held out a hand.
“I'm Sheri Sebra Serif. Legal Department. And yes, there is one.” It was a common answer to a common response, and she delivered it with a completely straight face.

Timothy meanwhile... continued to be a sweetheart.

Tambrey didn't seem to mind that Tris gave up trying to remove the spider-pokémon from her head; after all, she was pretty sure, when really needed, the other woman could recall him into a pokéball and, besides, he seemed to be a very cute, rather affectionate bug.
Not a terrible substitute for a hat.

"Um." Well, Tambrey did kind of understand about wanting something a little less 'nice' when it came to working for the organization that they did, but she wasn't entirely sure how she should be wording it; Timothy seemed adorable and, she thought, as long as he was obedient in battle, probably a rather good pokémon to have.
Neph was useful, after all, and she was totally opposite in her behaviour toward people.
"Well... Maybe he's not so scary an' such, but he seems like he'd be the type t' listen to you?" Wait, he was stuck on her head right now despite Tris' wishes... "Er. Most 'f the time, I mean. Y'know; when it counts?"
Tambrey ventured to reach up and see if she was able to pet the bug type gently before offering the same hand out to meet Tris' offered hand.
"Lots 'f 'S's. Nice t' meet you; legal sounds useful." She grinned a little at the pre-empt answer and then remembered she needed to introduce herself too. "Tambrey Greene; Science Department."

“It IS a lot of S's. Most just use one of them. Or, they call me Tris”
Tris shook her hand.
“Science department, huh. I rarely have trouble with your group.”
A brief smile showed that she did appreciate that. “You would be surprised how useful a lawyer can be.”
It faded quickly. Smiles weren't Tris' thing, and were surprisingly rare.
“Timothy doesn't listen to me, ever.”

Timothy chirped cheerfully, as if she was paying him a complement.

“He is more likely to attach himself to an opponent than fight them. As you can see...” She gave her spinerak a glare, “He makes friends. Easily”

Timothy gave her his most adorable gaze, comfortably ensconced on Tambrey's head. Tris's glare relented.

“How are things going in your department? Going well?”

"Easy t' remember," Tambrey gave a shallow nod, perhaps so as not to disturb the 'Spinerak hat' too much "Tris."
"Heh. Well... Generally the trouble we get into is more 'oh Arceus what is that doing and why is it doing it, oh no pass me the extinguisher!' more than 'help, get me a lawyer' but that's still, uh, good to hear." The grunt grinned awkwardly a little bit, recalling a previous experiment.
She gently tilted her head as she registered how quickly the smile vanished. Hm. It wasn't that she was unused to such a thing by now, people not smiling- she suspected plenty of team mates might have even thought to smile in such a way was a waste of effort- but to smile and be able to simply turn it off continued to be a little noteworthy.
As Tris talked of Timothy, Tambrey found herself understanding how it might be a problem, but still considering it a rather favourable trait in the bug type.
"Kind o' wish mine had that problem," She reached up to see if she could pet the spider-mon again "She's just violent all the time. Uh."
Hm. Questions about the science department. Well. Flaming cell culture projectiles or not, personally she thought things were going okay. Or was she asking after it as a whole?
"Well, things seem t' be goin' alright. I'm still just a grunt obviously, so I don't have access t' all areas but what I do know about is... uh... mostly producing what was wanted."
A verbal shrug, in a way, but true enough, she supposed.
