The child of a caregiver for the Shamans, Woya grew up learning to be resourceful.
A Shaman was often revered and, in most cases, respected enough that should material
(or spiritual) things be of need, someone could be convinced to part with it. However, Shaman
were always neglectful of the physical and caregivers were tasked with keeping such spiritual
beings alive. A cut or burn would be healed through prayer, they said. Bandages or salves
were not also so easy to come by, caregivers often had to resort to less than honest methods
to procure materials needs.
Woya's mother found the practice entirely unsavory and had taken to [some method of trade].
It was often left to the child to [sell or otherwise make favorable deals] and s/he soon learned
that her/his mother had become out of touch with the thriving market, with the world outside
of the Grandmother tree, because what her/his mother said would be enough, never was. It did
not take long for Woya to find alternative methods to making sure her/his mother received
what she expected.
