Found this in a religious debate forum on another site, I thought it was interesting.
What does everyone here think about this?

It wouldn't work!
Here is the generally accepted list:wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.

Wrath. We need to show anger sometimes to warn selfish people we won't be taken advantage of. It is effective in raising children to convince them you mean what you say when they misbehave.

Geed. Without greed, lust, gluttony and envy the capitalistic system would be unable to work. They take credit for the high physical standard of living in modern times.

If sloth is wrong, what would people do in Heaven? Would they be required to work?

Pride. How can you respect people that have no pride in themselves? Shouldn't we have pride in our religion, our culture, our nation, our children?

there is truth in this persons words...but they are being taken too far....
wrath exists in many forms.... mainly one should not surrender him or herself to wrath nor live in it. it is a sin to end you day with hate in your heart. wrath also is there for us to see and understand....if we do not see something we will not understand it. without a cause and effect for us to observe we tend to fall into such things without thinking about it because we do not understand it. as for your children....you should never show them your wrath....anger is understandable...but it seems you do not know the meaning of wrath....it is hate and acting on hate violence and such things have no place in our lives.

greed is never good...nor lust or gluttony....lust is impurity...it leads to the desecration of Gods will....what you are saying is like "well porn isnt bad because a lot of people buy it and that is good for the economy" same as greed and envy....if you envy something...all that is is wanting somethign that does not belong to you....then greed ...that is people taking taking and taking.....never giving...and that ruins the economy as well as the person and it harms all others around them.

is it wrong for someone to reap what they sew?
those in heaven lived a life of righteousness...they payed their toll gave to God what is Gods. they earned their paradise and even still they dont just sit around and sleep all the time....they are in constant rejoice and glorification of God.

finally....having pride in what you do and pride in your nation pride in your faith...is good....having excess pride in yourself...pride of yourself makes you think YOU are important....pride in your nation because it is important...pride in your faith because it is important....but pride in yourself.....if YOUR pride is greater than your pride of your faith...then you are more important to yourself than your faith....given the choice someone guilty of such a sin would choose to rebuke God and live than to die a martyr knowing that God is with them

Quick history lesson. Yay! I love history!
The "seven deadly sins" are not mentioned anywhere is scripture. They were actually made up by a catholic monk is the 13th century while he was kick out of Rome for having an affair.

Whether this is true or not (not that they aren't in Scripture, that is, in a certain sense, true) but whether they came from a catholic monk kicked out of Rome for having an affair, doesn't change the fact he was right. Actually his excommunication might have been one of the reasons he thought of it at all. A study of his own sins leading him to realize the 7 deadly sins : o.

Kesuke Uchiha, beautiful reply and quite true. The argument made by that person ignores different uses for those words. : ) I would add more but you did a good enough job.

He was never excommunicated. He just became a hermit.

I may have used the wrong word, but you did say he was kicked out of Rome so I assumed.
