"If you don't stop shuffling about then I'm just going to leave you half finished." Cesa stepped away from Yodith with brush in hand. In truth she wasn't even halfway done. She had only just reached the dragons shoulders, but if Yodith would stop shuffling around then she would be well on her way to being done. Help it I cannot. Cooler water in the deep, there I would rather be. The weather from the previous day's gather had held up well and the small green was not enjoying standing in the heat whilst her rider worked. She did not see why hers had chosen to give her a bath now, they could have waited until later when the walls of the Weyr cast shadows on the bay. As it was they were directly in the heat and it was making her dreadfully uncomfortable.
"You, my beloved, are dirty and are getting a bath whether you like it or not. You may be content to stay covered in dust and sand but I would rather you didn't get the title of dirtiest dragon as well as smallest." Yodith let out a cry of protest and moved around in the water some more. She was acting like a hatchling wanting to avoid a bath. Cesa had never understood it. The other greens seemed to be constantly preening and wanting attention from the males. Yodith seemed to have no care for her appearance and little tolerance of male advances. Mecesa was pretty sure she had never witnessed Yodith flirt in her entire life, not even during a flight. The green seemed intent on being the exact opposite of everyone's expectations. She was small so couldn't fly thread? She'd fly better than all of them. She was a green so was expected to flirt? She'd rather challenge them in some way.
From the shore Hedirit looked up to observe the green dragon having what looked like a miniature tantrum. The weyrbrat had been dragged away from his hiding places by the Greenrider under the apparent reason he needed to be in the sun more. Personally he would rather go back into hiding. Cesa was only pulling him out because she had the day off. She always did after a feast or gather. Her Wingleader, H'gus, had a great enjoyment for celebrations and often ended up drinking himself into a pit he couldn't crawl out of in the morning, so his bronze would eventually tell the wing they had the day to themselves. Looking up at the sky Dirit wondered how much he was likely to burn from being out here. Although born in Ista the boy spent far to much time indoors, so had a habit of burning when staying out in the midday sun. Glancing once again at the dragon and rider Hedirit soon turned his eyes back to his previous focus. His current topic of reading was whers. The stunted cousin to dragons had always interested the boy. Both in their physical differences and how people reacted to them.

It was not an unusual sight to see Feronell near the water, or in it, though he didn't normally mingle with others who were around. He was though, starting to make exceptions to that, especially if there were dragons involved. He really liked dragons, and after the lesson they had, had found himself curious about the differences between individual ones.
He grinned at the weyrbrat reading, a little amused at how serious he looked, and then swam towards the green and her rider, pausing at a safe distance away. The green didn't seem as if she was in a very good mode, but maybe that was just how she was. "Would you like some help?" he called over, loudly.

Both dragon and rider turned their heads at the offer. True, it wasn't unheard of for candidates and weyrbrats to offer to help wash dragons, but Cesa and Yodith didn't get it a lot. More often male candidates seemed to favour trying to win favour with bronzes and browns, for obvious reasons. Cesa didn't blame them, they were young and the thought of bigger was better seemed prevalent. Girls seemed more open to cleaning greens and blues too, maybe they just weren't as bother. Having never been a candidate Cesa couldn't say she fully understood their mentality. Maybe it was because of Yodith's small size they didn't often get offers, or perhaps it was just the green's peculiar way that did it.
"You are certainly welcome to try. She's being a disagreeable madam though." Cesa called back. She wouldn't refuse the help. Teller was trying her best to aid her bonded, but the green kept falling off when Yodith began to shift around again. Giving up the firelizard perched on Cesa's shoulder and gave an irritated huff at being tossed about in such a way.

He grinned. "Sweet." It wasn't really surprising that she had said yes, but it was incredible all the same. He just couldn't get enough of being around dragons. "I'm Feronell."
Now that he had permission he swam up closer. She was smaller than the bronze that he had helped with during the lesson, and he had to wonder if that made it easier. Certainly there would be less hide to wash, and oil, but if all of the smaller colors were as temperamental as this one seemed to be, then maybe it wasn't.
"Where have you already washed?"

"I'm Mecesa, most people just called me Cesa, and this disagreeable creature is Yodith." Cesa gave their names in reply to his introduction. Yodith seemed unimpressed with the part concerning her and gave an irritated snort and turned her nose up at the pair. It was not she being disagreeable. Hers was being disagreeable by not letting her choose not to bathe. She would clean in her own time. She did not need to look pretty for others, when Yodith chose that she should bathe that would be when she chose to. Any other time and her rider should expect some difficulty.
Picking up her spare brush Cesa held it out to the candidate. "So far she's squirmed enough that I've only managed to get to her shoulders." Being the methodical person that she was, Mecesa always washed Yodith the same way. Starting at the head she moved along and down the body. "That leaves everywhere but her head and neck." Had Yodith been the size of a normal dragon then Cesa might have made that sound daunting. However she was noticeably smaller than any other green. Mecesa could still remember when she first hatched; the other hatchlings capable of knocking sturdy boys to the ground, but Yodith had been only the size of an adult firelizard.

Mine, make sure to smile more! The green rider sighed at Maith's newest method of getting her still somewhat shy rider to be around others. The green dragon had gotten it into her head that Kaila needed to make more friends around the weyr. Her rider would disagree. She had friends and she did socialize at times. Between being a dragonhealer and a rider, she found time to be around people.
Kaila smiled at Maith's continued request as she walked near the lake for a spot to relax. Maith had decided earlier to nap a bit, so the rider thought perhaps she could take some time to relax by the lake. Movement around the back of her neck made her remember that Ziric, her gold fire lizard, was waking up from her nap. Kaila glanced around before going near the shore.

Alright. He would remember that, who they were, and he took the offered brush. "Thanks." He moved down towards the green's tail, figuring that it might be faster if he was on one end and she was on the other. "I'll start down here then."
It didn't really matter if the dragon was temperamental or not, he didn't think that anything more than him being thrown through the water would happen, and that certainly couldn't be any worse than being on a ship during a really bad storm.
He grinned, and started to scrub, pausing only to glance over at Cesa. "So, have you lived here your entire life? Or were you searched for a clutch?" He was being nosy, but the question was innocent enough. He was really just looking for some sort of interesting conversation starter.

Cesa smiled and nodded as Feronell moved toward Yodith's tail. Taking that as a cue she moved to start work on the dragon's chest and forelegs. Yodith stood still as both rider and candidate scrubbed, all the while mentally grumbling about being made to stand still. Cesa looked up when she was asked about her life. She didn't stop scrubbing, she'd been scrubbing long enough to be able to pay attention to someone and keep doing it. A lucky thing as if Cesa had stopped working every time she got involved in speaking to someone then she never would have gotten anything done as a youngster.
"I've been here my whole life. Never got searched though. Never even been a candidate" Her comment ended with a slight laugh. It was true though, she had skipped that part of the dragonrider experience. "I never actually planned to be a 'rider. Yodith here called me out of the stands some five turns ago. After the Weyrleader had decided to break all tradition and run down to break her out of her egg. Trust the dragon that wasn't supposed to hatch to choose the person who wasn't supposed to be a rider.
Yodith let out a snort at that idea. Of course she had been meant to hatch and of course Cesa had been meant to be a rider. Perhaps they had not achieved these things the usual way, but they had still done it. Seeming to think she had stood still long enough the small green crouched a little and pushed herself up onto her hind legs. She stood upright for just a moment before throwing herself back down and splashing water on her rider. As she came down though the green also raised her tail. Looking over her shoulder at the candidate she slammed it down into the water as well, with every intention of drenching him.

Huh. He had never realized that people who weren't candidates could impress, but he guessed that was better than the hatchling not finding anyone. That would just be sad.
"Does that happen often? People impressing from the stands that is?" He could think of at least one person that he would not mind that happening to.
Then the smallish green raised herself up, splashing first her rider, and then dousing him with the water that her tail splashed. He laughed, and then ducked himself completely underneath the water, coming back up completely soaked. "Oh, how terrible," he joked. "Now I am all wet."
Good thing he wasn't bothered by the water. He laughed again, and then got back to his scrubbing. "Does she do that often?"
