so you know you have to collect treasure chests, do sora and riku have separate chests or is it combined, like sora can get chests riku missed vise versa? i have the guide but it isnt as helpful

The chest are different because when you look at the reports, the blue side is for Riku and for the green one it is for Sora.

oh lol i discovered the answer to this one myself. on the first map in Traverse Town, in one of the areas there is this tower that had the lighting connected to it, the tower kinda looked like a bell tower i guess, anyways you flow motion on the line to the tower thats in the middle of the area and where you would think there is a bell located there was a chest, i found the very same chest for sora and riku containing diffrent items but thier inventories are shared anyways. so yeah i guess its pretty funny but thats how it is.

At first I thought it was hard cause I've never actually played Kingdom Hearts. ^^"
After a while it was pretty easy. Not so hard. But I hate it when it doesn't actually read your motions. yum_puddi

Separate worlds, separate chests. However, you could find chests in the same spots if both characters go to the same area in a world.
ex: treasure locations are the same for both Sora and Riku in Districts 1-5 in Traverse Town
Also, both share commands and items used for spirits, however they don't share keyblades(to get sweet dreams for both, simply just win the finals of the secret cup in flick rush with which ever of the two you haven't acquired it with).
