The silence could be called deadly, and in a way it was for the wolf. He could feel his sanity slipping as he continued to move through Redwood. There was a hare in his mouth, its limp body waving back and forth with each stride. Wheat had been lucky, his ability to observe allowed him the chance to catch the animal after all. Yet, he was still incredibly lost.
If I ever catch sight of that she-wolf again... I swear.
Clenching teeth tighter in anger, a small snap came from the dead body. Shocked by the sudden sound in the otherwise quiet area, Wheat dropped the hare. His nerves were about shot, this place would not fair him well. But how, how would he leave when everything looked so similar. So... dead.
Whimpering now, the honey colored wolf bent down to nab his catch. Only this time, movement caught his eye. Twitching his nose, he stood still. He couldn't be sure if his mind was playing tricks on him anymore, or if perhaps... There was something actually there.
And thus, he waited... Hoping to see more movement.

The forest his mother had led him to was very different from the setting Maple Twig was used to. The expanse of dead and blackened trees that stretched throughout the area intrigued him immensely, and he had waited until his mother was asleep inside their small hollowed tree dwelling before venturing this far.
He didn't understand why they had come here. His mother's reasoning was that no one came here and that it was safe. Now, if no one journeyed to this place, did that really mean it was safe? The pup, smaller than most, scrambled up a rotting log and plopped down to observe his surroundings curiously.
Dead tree, dead tree, rock, log, dead tree, wolf, dead tree.... wait... wolf?
Scrambling back down to hide behind the log, Maple poked his face out from around it to get a glimpse of the newcomer. His mother always said if he saw a wolf he should run as fast as he could and come find her. This wolf didn't look too threatening though. Maple flinched at the sound of the wolf snapping his prey. He hurriedly revised his thought and deemed the wolf a decent threat.
Slowly backing up, trying to make the least amount of noise possibly, Maple Twig let out a little whine as his back leg became entangled in a long-dead, gnarled old thorn bush. Trying to dislodge himself as quietly as possible, he shook his back leg, shaking the thorn bush along with him. His leg slipped out after a little maneuvering, causing the pup to let out a sigh of relief. Turning to check the status of the wolf, Maple froze as his eyes glimpsed the wolf's rigid form, his head pointed right in Maple's direction.
He was in trouble.

Continuing to stare in the distance, Wheat allowed his sight to soften, hoping that the movement would be caught by peripherals. And sure enough, no sooner had he done that, he spottng another creature in the distance. A lone wolf pup. Had the poor thing been abandonded in the redwood to die? Alarmed, Wheat perked his ears upward, taking one step cautiously forward.
"Hello there young one... Are you alright?"
He took note of the struggle the white pup had in the bramble, realizing his fear. He was unsure how to help the situation though. What could make this pup come to him? Green eyes continued to stare at the pup for a few seconds before he realize what was next to him.
The rabbit. Food. If the child really had been abandoned, then surely it would be hungry. "I will not harm you pup. Here, please... eat." Wheat kept his voice plesant and calm. Attempting to keep any of his own nervousness from his words. The child needed some certainity he was sure.
Managing a smile he nodded towards the rabbit, then moved back several feet. Giving the child enough distance to feel comfortable.
