"Republic City Park is a large tract of land located in Republic City's center peninsula. A small unit of park officials monitor the park and enforces its bylaws, one such law being that fishing on park grounds is strictly prohibited. Due to the poverty of a large number of the capital's citizens, the city park has become a place popular with vagabonds.

Public gatherings such as anti-bending protests are often orchestrated within the park's interior, as the grounds are frequented by numerous citizens.

Couples take strolls or taxi cab rides around the park, as the scenery and serene atmosphere give it a romantic air. Despite its problems, Republic City Park is the perfect place for a momentary escape from the fast-paced bustle of Republic City."

Vang
(Vincent Faust)

The midday sun caused sweat to drip down the sides of Vang's face making small trails through his face paint. His costume didn't help with the heat due to its design having long sleeves and many frilly layers. He wobbled as he maintained his balance on top of a large colorful ball and he concentrated on juggling five differently colored balls in several different ways. Then he announced cheerfully to his small audience consisting of mainly kids, "Alright everyone, it's time for my finale!" He was smiling broadly, "Get ready 'cause I'm gonna throw them to you guys!"
The kids responded by holding their hands out eager to catch one. Then quickly as he was juggling, he began tossing them in quick succession to them. Once he no longer had any of the balls, he executed a successful front flip off the ball. "Ta-da!" he shouted enthusiastically grinning from ear to ear. The kids cheered and few of the adults that were watching dropped some coins into his cup before leaving.
"How'd you guys like that?!" He asked the kids still smiling and after their jumbled positive sounding answers given all at once, he pointed to the balls the kids were still holding, "Do you guys like those balls?" Most of the kids nodded then he said happily, "Then you can keep them!" He was satisfied to see them happily run off with their new toys.
Then his joyful mood died when he heard a shout behind him.
"Hey, you can't be doing that here!" shouted an officer.
He turned and frowned, "Do what? Make kids happy?" His statement was dripping with sarcasm.
The officer looked slightly irritated, "You know what I mean. Keep your street act out on the streets, got that?"
Vang lowered any eyebrow, "Why would I? I've been preforming here for a while now."
The officer sighed, "We got a couple complaints about your performance yesterday. You know what I'm talking about."
In a matter of fact, he did. Magic tricks with a poisonous animal wasn't his best idea. He scratched the back of his head, "Alright, I get it. I promise I won't do anything dangerous again, so just let me keep preforming here," he begged.
After a moment's hesitation, the officer gave in. "Alright, I know I've said this to you before. One more chance and I'm serious this time," he said sternly.
"Yes!" Vang jumped for joy. "Don't worry it won't happen again!" he shouted as he turned to collect his things.
Vang walked off holding his cup of coins and rolling the large ball out in front of him. The weather was relatively nice today but he didn't want to stand out in the sun any longer so he retreated to the shade underneath a good sized tree and laid down to get some rest.

Fang Hu, still dressed in her usual traditional Water Tribe clothing, had watched on as the strange man with paint on his face performed tricks for a rowdy group, mixed with both children and adults. A slightly amused smile crossed her lips as the man flipped off of the larger ball he had been balancing on and landed gracefully before letting out an excited shout. The dark-haired girl had to admit, this man put on a pretty good show. She had watched the previous day as the man had preformed tricks with a dangerous animal whose bite could fell a fully grown saber-tooth moose lion. This man was... interesting to say the least.

Fang observed as the chubby, sorry excuse for an officer approached the man and berated him for his circus acts. She frowned and strained her ears to listen for the words of the officer, but from where she was, she was too far away. She could only see as the fat officer hesitated before saying something and storming away after that. The waterbender watches as the performing man gave an excited holler as he retrieved his things and moved out of the warm sun and settled down underneath a tree.

She decided she would bother him, but only for a short while. At least to say that his skills were quite amazing in her eyes. She had never seen anything like it, except for a young man barely older than her who had trained his fire ferret to perform small tricks... but that was nothing. Straightening her back and rolling the stiffness from her shoulders, she backed from the railing that lined the bridge she had been standing upon. She crossed and made her way to the man who rested beneath the shade of the tree. Crossing her arms, she simply stood before him. She wanted to speak, but no words came from her mouth.

Fang simply stared.

Vang
(Vincent Faust)

Vang's eyes were closed as he laid under the tree taking full advantage of its cool shade. There was simply nothing better than a nap under a tree. Although it took a moment, he was able to feel a pair of eyes staring at him. He opened his eyes, which was difficult for one to tell since his hair curtained them, and he saw what appeared to be a water-tribe girl standing over him and staring quite intensely.
A large smile spread across his face as he spoke happily, "Why, hello there!" He wiped some sweat off his face smearing the paint in a way that made him look a bit creepy. "Did you want to see me preform?" he asked because he didn't remember seeing her in the audience.
He stood up and still smiling, "Now I won't be doing anything too fancy since I just finished my act, but I will do this!"
Then without waiting for a response, he bent over backward and hugged his legs folding his body in half. Then after holding that pose for a moment, he let go of his legs and reached further back so his hands touched the floor as he kicked up into a handstand with his back to her. Ever so slowly he began to raise his left arm off the floor until it was perpendicular to the ground. He did his best to remain smiling throughout the entire thing, even now as he held this pose too as his right arm began to shake and new sweat began to run down his face once more. Then he let his legs fall forward and he landed on his feet facing her once again. Putting one hand behind his back and another across his chest, he bowed as if he was facing an audience of one hundred.
He looked back up a the girl smiling through his horribly ruined face paint and said, "If you want to see a real performance, I'll be back tomorrow!"

Fang Hu smiled shyly, a faint blush becoming apparent on her cheeks. The dark braid she wore her hair in found itself twirling around a slender finger, a habit that had been developed at an early age. The girl cocked her head to one side curiously as the paint smeared across his face, giving him a rather strange appearance. She had opened her mouth to reply to Vang's question, but it seemed he had already replied for her as he grinned and nimbly bent over to place his hands on the ground before shifting his weight over and finally releasing one hand. Despite her shyness, Fang found herself smiling as well. Vang's cheerful personality was infectious, and the fact that he was balancing on one hand didn't help either!

Smiling, she applauded Vang for his skill and dug around in a pocket. She was sure she had a few Yuans left, even though she had spent most of her money on her meal at Narook's. She held her upturned palm out, offering the four coins resting in her hand. "Actually, I've been watching your performances every day. You probably don't see me because I'm not really a fan of the crowds." Fang's smile slightly. It was usually difficult to bring a smile to the timid girl's face - except when in the Pro-Bending arena, of course.

"You're good at what you do. You've been doing this for most of your life, yes?"

Vang was happy when the girl applauded his small performance. Then he watched curiously as she pulled out some coins he didn't expect to receive. He thanked her as he took them from her outstretched hand. He then listened to the girl speak of how she had seen his performances before but had never stood in the crowd with the rest of his audience. So that's why I have never seen her before, he assumed. Then she asked him if he had been doing this for most of his life. What a funny question!
"Why yes, I have been doing this for a majority of my life!" he said cheerfully, "I grew up in a circus performing all sorts of acts. You can call me Vang!" He said his stage name with enthusiasm. "Now then water tribe girl, what might you be called?" he asked smiling broadly.

Fang Hu smiled slightly and replied lightly, "Your name is unique. I've heard nothing like it before. By the way, I'm Hu. Fang Hu. Or you can just call me Fang. Anything goes!" She gave a slight bow, her braid slipping over her shoulder and dangling down. The afternoon sun glinted brightly off her chocolate-colored hair, giving it a golden tinge. "If you've watched any pro-bending matches, you may already know me. I'm the waterbender for the Pygmy Panthers." Her lips widened into one of those rare grins, revealing pearly white teeth as she sat down in the grass. It wouldn't hurt to have a conversation with Vang - he seemed friendly and interesting enough. After all, between training with her team mates and keeping tabs on this new group, the 'Equalists', she rarely had time to relax. Hopefully Vang wouldn't mind too much.

"Oh? What's it like to be in a circus?" She propped her elbows against her knees and glanced up at Vang with her pale blue eyes. "I've been told that there are so many people and exotic animals!"

Vang smiled some more when the water tribe girl called herself Fang Hu. When she bowed to him he felt it only right to bow back. "It is a pleasure to meet you miss Fang. Isn't odd how similar our names are?" without pausing for an answer he continued, "So you're a water bender and a pro-bender at that, that's pretty impressive! Although I must say I have never followed the sport, my apologies." Then he watched curiously as Fang sat in the grass under the tree next to him so he decided to do the same. Then she asked him about the circus and he grinned even wider than before. His memories of the circus were his fondest and most precious. He pulled out a rag and wiped the remainder of the paint off his face exposing his pale skin. Then he began to speak with overbearing enthusiasm, "Ah, what you have heard is true however, the circus is something that is difficult to put into words. It is a place of fantasy where people of all kinds put their hearts out for everyone to see. It is a place that does not know logic and their bindings. Creatures of all kinds preform alongside these people. Their acts are meant to mystify, confuse, shock, and relieve people of their everyday lives. In a circus, people can lose themselves and find another they hadn't known existed." He let out a long breath then looked up the clouds as they drifted slowly through the blue sky, "One day I hope to own a fantasy of my own so that I may share it with others."

Fang leaned forward slightly and rested her head in her palms. A gentle breeze blew some stray stands of hair into her face. She brushed them back nonchalantly and spoke, "Sounds like a pretty amazing place, the circus I mean. I've never actually been to any kind of circus, not that I can remember anyway." She raised her eyebrows slightly at Vang's next words, but said nothing in reply.

[Sorry for not replying in a REALLY long time. Dx I've been real busy with school and a youth program, I forgot! D:]

Vang quickly looked back down to Fang when she said that she never been to a circus, "Then you simply must go!" he was still smiling. "You just have to find one first," he frowned a little when he realized he didn't know where one might be. Suddenly, the grin returned to his face as he began to speak again, "Well, now it's my turn. What is being a pro-bender like?" He waited expectantly for an answer as he absently began pulling pieces of grass from the ground.
