The Nightside

is the dark, secret, brooding heart of London, hidden away from the rest of the world, where magic is realer than you can bear, where lives and souls and everything else you can think of are always up for sale, and all your worst dreams go walking openly in borrowed flesh. It's always dark in the Nightside, always three o'clock in the morning, the hour that tries men's souls, and the dawn never comes. Streets full of sin and cellars full of suffering, magic in the air and mystery around every corner; hot neon, hotter music, and the hottest scenes anywhere. Good and bad and everything in between. Dreams come true in the Nightside, especially the bad ones. Everything's available, for the right price. You can find anything in the Nightside; if that something doesn't find you first. Buyer beware.

All forms of magic and technology exist in the Nightside, from the arcane to the space-faring to dark arts that are beyond mortal understanding. Everything that looks human may not actually be one. People and creatures from all walks of life (and unlife) inhabit the Nightside, from humans to mythological creatures to beings from other planets and timelines and futures; even agents from Above and Below. There are no laws in the Nightside, other than survival, but there is a certain order that is kept, a status quo, that when threatened, will be intervened upon by the Authorities, the powers that be that govern the Nightside.

The Nightside might actually be a lot bigger than it should be. Some might say it's bigger than London itself. It's hard to tell in a place where reality constantly shifts. Some locations of interest include The Underground, the subway system that brings most people to the Nightside, as well as connects to other places like Shadows Fall; Uptown, the high class district where all the fanciest and more expensive bars and clubs are located, all of them members only, of course; the Drag, where you can find anything, if it doesn't find you first; and the Street of the Gods, home to every religion imaginable and their respective deity. Falling to the lowest point in your life and can't bounce back up? Rats' Alley has plenty of friends for you among the homeless and dregs of society. Or you can shack up somewhere on Blaiston Street.

The current timeline is within the 5 years that John Taylor is absent from the Nightside. None of the events from the books have happened yet. Any characters from the book series are strictly NPC status and are forbidden to be played by anyone. As there are no rules in the Nightside, so there are no rules in character creation, but beware of how powerful you decide to want to make them. There will always be something bigger and badder that can kill you.

The Nightside is based upon the fictional world created by Simon R. Green.

RULES OF THE NIGHTSIDE

Technically, there are no rules, but if you try to destroy the world, you will be swiftly dealt with.

The Authorities are the men in charge of the Nightside, even though nobody knows who they really are. They are represented by their Agent, the Voice of the Authorities, Walker.

As the Voice of the Authorities and "Overseer" of the Nightside, Walker is granted special privileges and powers in order to do his job. The most famous and potent of his powers is his Voice. It is said that his Voice is derived from the original Voice, the one that said, "Let there be light." and there was. It is a Voice that commands obedience and enslaves those who hear it. It is said that Walker once told a corpse to sit up and talk to him, and it did.

COMBAT

Fights can break out anywhere, at anytime, and it's encouraged. There is no preferred combat system in the Nightside. Bullets fly until someone's dead.

Sometimes conflicts happen though, and when they do, and there are no mods to sort it out or you and your opponent can't come to an agreement, there is an easy way to resolve it:

When a conflict in combat arises, both combatants will roll 1D100. Whoever has the highest roll wins. End of discussion. Move on with your life. Edit your post to reflect the results.

MAGIC

There are no rules or restrictions on the use of magic or any other supernatural Gifts, just as long as you use common sense and at least try to limit yourself. Unless you're a god. Or an elf.

Speaking of which...

ELVES AND THE FAE FOLK

Elves and humans once lived side by side centuries ago and always had their differences. Humans won the war by simply out-breeding the elves, and they fled, walking sideways from the sun, moving into another dimension called the Sundered Lands. Few elves come to the Nightside, and those that do only come to make a mess of human lives. No one in the Nightside wants anything to do with an elf. "Never trust an elf." is a common saying, and most people would likely kill them on sight if they saw one, if they weren't afraid of whatever magic they might be hiding.

Elves are enemies of humanity and would like nothing more than to see humans wiped off the face of the Earth. They look down their pointed noses at them, take delight in their suffering, and have no remorse in using them to further their own schemes, even if it results in those humans' deaths. In fact, they enjoy it more if it does.

If you want to play an elf character, be aware that you will likely be hunted down and killed if you make your presence in the Nightside known!

DEATH

Death happens, even in the Nightside. Sometimes, however, the dead don't stay dead. If your character dies, don't worry! Someone may come along and raise your corpse as a zombie, or some fell magic will come and reanimate your corpse, or you can just become another ghost. Death doesn't have to be permanent in the Nightside.

In light of that, there are no restrictions on killing other characters. This is the Nightside, where even the cars on the street can eat you up.
