Biography:
Match was created through a brief joint venture between Cadmus and LuthorCorps. Project Match was established as a means of engineering a being powerful enough to go toe-to-toe with with beings such as the Superman. As such, the primary purpose was to create a biological weapon.
From a sample of blood that was drawn just a short while before Clark Kent's powers manifested, genetic information was extracted and analyzed. It was then spliced with a human's DNA to fill in the gaps in the alien genetic structure. The human DNA donor, by his own request, was none other than Luthor himself. He went to great lengths to be certain that the weaknesses of the original would not plague the weapon, and he, at least in part, was successful.
The first clone of the Superman was a failure. Due to the nature of creating a being with incomplete DNA, the child did not survive long. It seemed for a time that it would not be possible to clone the Superman with their current data. Their turning point came in the form of the discovery of an ancient being deep beneath the surface of the earth. Miraculously this creature was still alive. They were able to analyze the creature and discovered that its dna allowed it to adapt. Using this data, Cadmus was able to improve the cloning process to correct the gaps in the genetic coding. Subsequent attempts were not immediately successful either, but after each failure, data was recorded and used to improve the process, and each iteration improved by leaps and bounds. It was with number five that Cadmus finally found success.
Due to what was officially classified as an electrical short, Match's containment unit malfunctioned shortly before his scheduled release and he escaped the facility, taking refuge in Gotham's clocktower.
