my instructor is the highest; 7th dan in taekwondo, and 8th dan in hapkido. as far as students are concerned, the two junior intructors and one other black belt (maybe two) all hold 3rd dan in either taekwondo or hapkido, I can't remember....

The highest in our Wing Chun school is red sash it takes up to 5 to 7 years to master Wing Chun and if you make it to gold sash and manage to get the grand master to agree to test you for master level after you have learnd the weapons and other instructor level training you may get a red sash. My Sifu Jerry Bolding and his wife Ronda are at red sash right now Ronda has not taken the test yet but was already excepted to when she can William Cheung comes to our school every feew years from Australia I have seen him twice.
I feel that these days with the kind of training you get in a modern school a few years counts for one in the old day so the 5 to 7 year thing is just an old belief. I have traind for five years and am close to instructor level but I plan on some hard training in the near future and I also plan on geting into Jujutsu as well that way I can learn some new stuff.

In our Karate style, our Shinan is a 8th dan, and our Shihan is a 6th dan. My original Sensei is a 4th dan, and my sensei of right now is a 5th dan. Out of our non-instructors at our dojo, I think our highest is a 2nd dan. ^^;; Yeah, we go by the belt system, but I like it. I think it's mostly because it just looks so colourful in the class. XD And give us excuses to have a Kung Pai now and then. surprised

Red sash, lvs 1,2,3,4, Green sash, 1234, Brown 1234 and Black 1234, then instructor 1234 obvously subject to whether or not you have a decent understand and are a good teacher.
And then, well hell, you're good if you're good at it and a shite teacher if you're not. I don't go off rank. I respect some 'low' ranks more than I respect some higher ones. One of our instructors, a guy who rarely trains now so his skills are poor and who has an unbelievably condescending attitude, I respect least of all.
Thankfully I don't go with any ancient Chinese notions of honour or automatic respect. People earn it, regardless.

I am glad we don't have any guys in class that think ther beter than every one just becaus they are a higher rank I admit I have come fairly far but I don't train as hard as I should therfor my skills have suferd. Any way from what I have heard from others in class there has been people like this in class but they showed them how wrong they were and asked them to not come back.

We only have Kyu level students. Once you're a Shodan, you're considered an instructor. San-Kyu (Green Belt in my dojo) is our assistant instructor level, where you can start teaching white belts the basics of stance, striking and blocking.
