It was really a great day, because for the second time, Gauvain was on an excursion to Hearts. Forget not being a knight because he wasn't born here-- maybe if he just spent enough time here he could pass as a resident. As such, Gauvain was starting to try to visit as often as possible for an infant with no income of his own apart from whatever he managed to win at the casino-- actually, he won more than enough pocket money that way, as he was unusually lucky. Probably influenced by where he'd appeared as an egg, after all. The casino was his home turf.

But he wished, so strongly, that Hearts was. How could he ever be a knight when he was born in Clubs? Eugh. Gauvain attacked the whipped cream on top of his hot cocoa in order to vent. It stirred up little flurries of cinnamon, and Gauvain had to hop off the chair in order to sneeze politely into an embroidered handkerchief away from the other tables and his food. Then, excusing himself, he noticed a brightly-coloured child probably around his own age.

Gauvain went right up to him, and beamed at the boy, leaning forward. "I'm enjoying a hot chocolate! Might you join me?" he asked, having absolutely no qualms about approaching random strangers and inviting them over to his table. After all, the boy was cute! In a sort of... I don't get out much way. Gauvain intended to take a shot at fixing that.

Atticus wasn't exactly happy.

He wasn't exactly a social little butterfree, that was for certain. He was not happy with the fact that his current caretaker had seen fit to order him to stay at the cafe and drink hot chocolate. What sort of caretaker forced a child to sit and drink hot chocolate in a cafe in the middle of Hearts? When spoken out loud, it sounded silly and childish, almost ungrateful to complain about it, but Ivan knew that this was exactly the sort of setting Atticus was not used to, nor did he like.

He did like sweets, though, so at least the hot chocolate was tasty. He could almost forget he was surrounded by a bunch of strangers... Strangers who probably thought he was some degenerate horse-killer, thanks to Malo.

"Uhm, what?" He was snapped from his thoughts by another child, one he did not recognize in the slightest. He blinked his emerald eyes in startled confusion.

Gauvain sighed, exaggeratedly so, and then remembered he was supposed to have those things, you know... manners. Gauvain was not always on his best behaviour, admittedly. He still threw the occasional tantrum, and definitely wasn't charming yet. But he meant well. No, okay, that wasn't true either. He was kind of a brat. It was really easy to remain a brat in Clubs when he spent all his time at his father's work being adorable and looking like a tiny angel.

With honey-scented powder glittering on his cheeks, matching the gold flecks in his eyes. He went back to his table, grabbed his cocoa, put the piece of biscotti in his mouth, and climbed up onto a chair at the stranger's table, getting settled, ruffling his feathers... the usual preening he had to do when he was getting comfortable. "It was easier to just come to you," he explained, finally, smiling around the biscotti. Which he set down on its plate again, the plate that currently held his cocoa for him. He licked a bit of the whipped cream off the top and beamed. He loved whipped cream. In fact, he loved all foods that were white, for some reason. White, cream and red foods!

"I'm Gauvain! You can call me Vye, it's short and sweet, like me," Gauvain said. "You know.. are you sad about something? You can tell me!" It was just that the other infant looked so.. grim. And Gauvain loved Hearts, so he couldn't ever fathom looking so grim here!

"Gauvain." He parroted the name, a habit he seemed to have when he made an attempt to familiarize himself with someone. He definitely didn't know this child and made more of an effort to catalogue his face into his memory. Gauvain; Swanna, invades personal space and asks personal questions.

"Not really sad, I just... Wait, where are you from?" Surely not Hearts. He took a small sip of his still warm cocoa through a red and white striped peppermint stick that was protruding from the mug, relishing the sweet and crisp, minty taste. It was a favorite, a favorite that would be spiked with alcohol when he was old enough to do so.

Why was he so curious about him? He was just some other insect child running amok in Hearts. He usually tried to appear like that, anyway. He must have been doing a piss poor job on this particular night to have this swanna pick up on it like that. He had to practice harder. Ivan said he had to act normal.

If Gauvain could have heard the infant's thoughts, he would have probably agreed with him: he was invading and asking personal questions, but that was his nature, and it wouldn't change until he learned how to be more elegant. For now, he just had the raw enthusiasm of a child. He didn't know any better. Thuri's fault! "Do you have a name?" he asked, tilting his head and smiling again.

"You like peppermint? It hurts my teeth," Gauvain lamented, with a sigh. Even if he loved the colours. Really, he just didn't like the taste of mint. "Clubs..." Gauvain admitted, "but one day I'll be here so much they won't know, and I can be a--" Gauvain cut himself off, having grown increasingly more excited. No, he couldn't tell people his plan, or they would stop him. Better keep that to himself. Even he knew that much.

Gauvain just liked to be social, and the unfamiliar infant was the only other one of his age group in the cafe; of course, why would a bunch of infants just chill around a place meant for at least teens? More likely adults, since there wasn't a particularly young crowd in here. Gauvain might seem scattered, but he seized onto things he wanted and held on. In this particular case, the boy hadn't finished explaining what he meant: "Not really sad, you just...? Just what?"

Gauvain fanned his wings out and peered with curiosity at the boy. "Do you get out a lot?" Gauvain asked. He wasn't entirely sure this kid should be in public with this attitude.

"Atticus, and I like sweet things. And minty things." He took another sip of the warm, minty cocoa. The swanna cut himself off and that had his curiosity piqued. At first, he was just annoyed, but now he genuinely wanted to know more about the stranger, or rather why the stranger wanted to be in Hearts so much. Sure, the Queen was here, that was always a plus if you were into that sort of thing.

"No, I don't get out very much. Does that answer your question? I'm not used to... All this." He raised his arms to express what he meant. He wasn't used to the social settings, nor how one should act in such a situation. He wasn't used to feeling so out of place or awkward.

"Why are you so curious, anyway?" He swirled the frothy, whipped cream covered drink with the straw.

"If you like sweet things, then you should eventually like me," he stated, with a grin, before taking another sip of his cocoa and licking some of the slightly melted whipped cream off the top before he couldn't reach it any more. Delicious. It definitely was not the Queen that Gauvain was interested in; in fact, if he had his way he'd swear fealty to Alice, not the Red Queen at all. But he wasn't about to tell Atticus that. At least he knew his name, now!

"Yes, it answers my question! But then... why are you here now? And how could you survive without this? I need the energy! Thuri says I'm an extrovert," Gauvain announced, leaning forward and raising his brows. He didn't particularly know what that meant, yet. All he knew was that it made him more like his daddy Thuri than his other father Tommy, and that pleased him. Even if he did really love Tommy, too. "I could teach you some tricks to blend in a bit better," Gauvain offered. Like batting one's eyelashes sweetly? Or more like just... not looking so suspicious.

Gauvain's smile became the tiniest bit wicked underneath the angel-sweet surface. Atticus was asking him questions, and Gauvain was suddenly feeling impish. "Oh, no reason! Why, is there something I should know?" Gauvain replied, avoiding the question. He'd answer if he was prompted again; he was just being a brat.

Atticus arched a brow slightly. Obviously Gauvain thought very highly of himself if he thought Atticus would eventually like him... But maybe he was right. That was yet to be seen as the insect boy tilted his head slightly.

"I'm here cos Ivan says I gotta be here. I don't like it. I like quiet. If you're an extrovert, I'm whatever the opposite of that is." Even with his love for books, he was still very young and didn't have a firm grasp on vocabulary. But if extrovert meant Gauvain, he was most definitely not that. If anything, he at least learned something new. He tried to be somewhat optimistic about his situation at least.

"Uhm - no. Nothing you should know." He didn't really care to explain about the horse thing. It wasn't exactly for idle chit chat and he hated having to remember. Maybe one day, but definitely not today. He took another sip of his cocoa, relishing the warmth and sweet flavor as he considered the swanna's offer. He was seriously considering it, which could be noted in his pause.

"Uhm, if you wouldn't mind... I," he hated admitting to it, "need help. Obviously."

Gauvain probably would, one day, think highly of himself. As it stood, he just didn't know any better; he had generally felt that the world liked him, as they responded positively to him in general. Being treated like a little treasure had given him an inflated sense of self-worth, and he was already learning how to milk that for all it was worth.

And how to adapt so that even when he aged, he'd still have that kind of affection showered on him. Without even knowing it, he was already addicted to it. "I don't like the quiet," Gauvain said, wrinkling his nose, "It makes me feel alone." Gauvain did not deal well with being alone, nor feeling like he was alone. He was used to the noise and life of the casino. Being home alone was like an itch that he needed to scratch or he'd enter temper-tantrum mode.

Gauvain had pretty poor vocabulary, really; he was still young, too. He could parrot things his fathers had said, but that was the extent of it.

Gauvain set his cocoa down and clapped his hands in delight, kicking his little legs, wings flapping open for a moment. "Good! Okay, um... let's see... smiling helps! Not too much, but still lots. If you think you're gonna want something later, smile early! And, um... sometimes I make my eyes wide, when I want to get attention... hmm... Giggling works sometimes, too." Gauvain was counting things off on his fingers, eyes cast upwards.

Finally, smiling beautifically at Atticus again, he finished: "I act dumb, even when I know what they're saying. And the prettier I make my face, and the more I giggle, the more nobody argues with me."

Gauvain was displaying a rather sinister disposition, and definitely exposing the fact that much of his cuteness was machination.
