Halawa Al-Aqrab

Name: Halawa Al-Aqrab

Nickname: None; is often referred to by title by her staff.

Age: 21

Hair Color: Black

Eye Color: Hazel

Occupation: Ambassador to Sunderland & princess of her country

Location: A stately townhouse in Palisade, although she frequently travels throughout the country.

Family:

  • Kabir Al-Aqrab (father); king; 63
  • Munirah Al-Aqrab (mother); queen; 57
  • Nazim Al-Aqrab (eldest brother); crowned prince; 29
  • Rameez Al-Aqrab (second elder brother); prince; 26
  • Wa'il; attendant; 34

Hobbies:

  • Calligraphy -
Calligraphy is one of Halawa's foremost passions in life. From the time she was a little girl, she seemed entranced whenever her mother or father would read from various religious texts or from the multitudes of poetry books that they had. The words were not only beautiful sounding - they were transfixing upon the page as well. Ever since she learned to write, Halawa has made sure that she had the best penmanship a woman could have. It's not just for practicality, however. To the ambassador, it is an art form as well. It is rumored her family has many a hand-written book in the palace, heirlooms from calligraphers and writers of long ago.

  • Cultural Studies -
The study of one's culture is of the utmost importance. It is one thing to be well-versed in how people of your country live. It's another thing to know not only that, however, but have an interest in how other's from around the world live their lives as well. Halawa is keen on learning about the other cultures of the world and their various practices. What do they eat? What holidays are celebrated? How is it best to greet someone, and so on. The list goes on. It's always important to learn these things, especially when visiting foreign lands as she does. Not only is it an intriguing hobby, but a skill of valued importance.

  • Politics -
The study of politics is something that runs in the Al-Aqrab lineage. With her father the king of her native country, the subject is pretty much in her blood. Her siblings have been well-versed in the material of what it takes to run a country and how the laws are made and passed. Even as a woman, however, Halawa didn't want to be kept in the dark. She wanted to learn right along with the other members of her family. To make herself useful, instead of just sitting around and looking pretty as a princess might, Halawa became an ambassador for her people in order to see other countries. This allows her not to just be an ambassador for her country, but also to see the world and experience things she wouldn't be able to see otherwise.

  • Prayer -
The notion of prayer is something that has been stilled in the Al-Aqrab family. Both the king and the queen are very spiritual individuals, and thus instilled this quality within their three children. Devotion and spirituality is what ultimately guide them all, and it's important to take time and pay respect to powers far greater than themselves. Halawa, one of the most devout members of her family, goes through a rather elaborate prayer sequence three times a day, and does ablutions morning and night. This is a vital part of the ambassador's day, and she makes a point not to miss her prayers, regardless of what is going on.

Personality:

Halawa, first and foremost, has an air of intrigue about her. There is something about her that draws one in and makes you want to learn more about her, perhaps the air of foreign-ness that she has about her. The princess certainly doesn't look like she belongs in Sunderland - not outwardly, at least. She keeps herself dressed in the finest of fabrics and jewelry, yet is covered up from head to toe. Her face is covered from her nose down, and all that individuals are allowed to glimpse are her eyes, hands, and feet. The woman does this not due to strict rules, but to show her modesty and to guard others from having their eyes wander where they shouldn't. She says it's not herself that she is protecting, but them.

Despite being born a princess and the third child to a royal family, Halawa was never intent on just sitting around and looking pretty. She has always wanted to make herself useful and has always wanted to get out there and make her own mark on the world. She also has always been keen on helping her family and the royals get their name out there however she could. This led her, unsurprisingly, into the field of politics, which is what most of the Al-Aqrab children are familiar with. Ill-content with just staying around at home, the princess asked her father for permission to become an ambassador to their nation - a request the king happily fulfilled. If anyone could go out and represent their country to other nations, as well as discuss politics and important cultural matters, it was Halawa.

The ambassador takes her line of work very seriously, but she also has an immense passion for the things that she does. She doesn't just do her work - she lives it and gives everything her all. As a politician and ambassador, Halawa is very practical with a level head and good insight. She is never one to stray too far from the topic or her work when it is called for, and she is quite good at staying focused. Straying off task is never a good thing in a profession such as this. Despite her practicality, however, the princess is far from stiff and uptight. Her spiritual nature and her desire to learn about other cultures keeps her very grounded and down to earth. She is not above visiting members of the common class to learn more about them, rather than stay pent up in a nice house. Her devotion also reminds her that their is more to life than just those who rule countries, and she prays multiple times daily to remind herself of that.
