"It's what I didn't do," the Stranger replied, with a voice that sounded calm, but had a faint undertone of pain, "A very long time ago." There was a certain finality in his voice, that would've made a normal person stop in their tracks. It was subtle, in a manner that humans could detect, but would never be able to use themselves.

Zira gave him a small smile. "If you didn't want to talk about it, you could have just said that," she pointed out. There were certainly things in her own past that... A frown made its way across her face. Actually, she... couldn't remember any of what had happened to her. At all. How strange. Maybe that made sense; whatever it had been, it had driven her crazy. In this place, she couldn't be crazy, so she... necessarily couldn't remember it? "That doesn't make any sense," she muttered, mostly to herself.
More to give herself something else to think about than because she was actually invested in the subject, she continued in a louder tone of voice, "So what about Spectre? For a supposed good guy, he doesn't seem very good." She pursed her lips briefly. "He even got on Doctor Strange's bad side, and all that man seems to do is take in poor little strays."

"The Spectre sees things in terms of right and wrong, with no in-between," the Stranger said, sounding half-introspective, "It makes him rather effective at his duty."

"Depending on your definition of 'effective,'" Zira pointed out stubbornly, "Isn't this White God of yours supposed to be loving? If Spectre is his wrath, shouldn't his mercy have an incarnation, at least?" She shrugged slightly, careful not to disrupt the arm still comfortingly surrounding her shoulders. "No offense to your reality, or any pantheons contained therein, but I don't get it." Not that her reality was all sunshine and roses, but at least the gods and goddesses that she knew weren't contradictory in quite that way.

"His mercy DOES have an incarnation," the Stranger replied, nonplussed, "But rarely does that incarnation appear. His mercy isn't something that modern society seems to take in high regard." He then turned his head to look at her, saying, "Only recently has he been able to forgive at all. His wrath has been present for millenia."

Zira blinked at him, then simply said, "Huh." She still didn't really understand, but she wasn't particularly invested in pushing it. She was Chaos, and Terragon was Order. At least, that's how it had been. All of the gods she knew had opposite numbers in this way. But, honestly, who was she to say that their way of operation was the best way, or even a good way? Lest she forget, she was hardly the goddess of anything right then, and Terragon was probably--
"Um," she continued abruptly, blinking her eyes rapidly. She was NOT going to start crying again. "I wasn't trying to be judgmental. I just hope he doesn't hurt anyone else. Terragon is one of the nicer gods, all and all; more to the point, he does an awful lot to keep people like me and Thorne in line." Normally she hated that, but that probably only furthered her point. "He was one of the first that your Spectre went after. He isn't perfect, but he is good."

The Phantom Stranger turned his head forward again, nodding. "That's because he sees things in terms of black and white. You are all a pantheon of gods. In the Spectre's mind, that alone is an unforgivable sin. Some of you, might be able to avoid death. In his way of thinking, if you resist, you die."

The Stranger, after waiting for a response, continued. "If Radiant, the Spirit of Mercy, would cross into this realm, then maybe Terragon would have a chance at holding onto his life, and maybe prevent the Spectre from going on a rampage. Regrettably, he does that sometimes. The final plague of Egypt was at least guided, channelled. The Black Plague the swept medieval Europe wasn't given quite as much direction, and as a result, the Spirit of Vengeance took a full third of the continent's population. Radiant has only existed for a short time, around two thousand years. The Spirit of Mercy doesn't appear often, but makes a difference every time. That difference could be what prevents another Black Plague, or a second Ice Age, or even the arrival of the End Times itself."

Zira thought about this. "Could I find her?" Probably not, if she was trying to. Swallowing a groan of frustration, she buried her face in his shoulder. "I mean, could someone find her? Him? Mercy?" Maybe, if she could hold onto that one thought after she left here, she could fix things. If she could just focus on the idea that someone had to find the Spectre's other half..."Or," she began, looking up again, "Are you saying that Radiant literally doesn't exist at the moment, and would have to be bound to a host?"
((Um. Hi.))

/// I can't contact CBJ, and I feel bad that you've been waiting for months with the only character you updated... I'll babysit Stranger until we can get Zira moved out and into the world again somehow. Even if it's just in selective areas. Also sorry for short post. On lunch break at work./// The Stranger nodded slowly. "I'm afraid Radiant must find a host in this universe. With the bits and pieces of the various universes merged into one, Radiant's host was not among those to make it here." he replied.

Zira worried her lower lip and nodded. That wasn't great news, but she'd expected as much. "Do you know how to go about doing it? I..." She let out a slow breath, forcing herself to be reasonable. It felt like using an atrophied muscle, and her head swam. "I probably won't be able to focus long enough to manage anything if I get out of here, but I might be able to tell someone else how. Maybe." And maybe not. Pretty much their only option, though. "And you can't act."
