I am a Muslim, so i have to pray five times a day. Most people ask me how i have enough time to do it, but it just makes me feel good inside. It makes me feel that i have a direct way to speak with God and that all of my sins are being washed away.

Let's say that person a has fallen ill, and they practice religion x, let's also suppose that person b also follows religion x, and is a friend or family member of person a. Let us also suppose that religion x expresses a need for one to pray to some sort of god. And lastly let's assume that person b tells person a they are praying for them, and person a is completely comprehended person b's statement about person b praying for person a. Now, I find all of those assumptions rather reasonable, also, with all of those assumptions, we can say that maybe person a needed to know that another person was praying for them, or that the knowledge of another person helped fuel a placebo.
actually, i remember learning in my Biopsychology lab class that there was a study that showed when a group of Catholics prayed for people to be pregnant through artificial insemination, when the people DID NOT KNOW they were being prayed for, had and increased chance of getting pregnant through artificial insemination. they published and no one (at that time, which was 4 or 5 years ago now) has tried to reproduce the study.

I've heard of studies similar to this, however, can you imagine the nightmare of trying to control for these? I honestly think such tests are impossible to control for, and because of that, the conclusions drawn have a large chance of being improperly drawn.
i agree, it's hard to control, but that's why NUMBERS of participates are needed, and that's why the study needs to be reproduced. numbers and statics can compensate for lack of control.

For me, praying nightly (before going to bed) or not at all, does nothing in words of comfort. I have gone to sleep many a nights without praying and have still slept the same. In some way, I suppose I do feel a small amount of comfort when I actually do my act in praying, but in that way, I guess I almost feel as if it is a chore - you feel good when its accomplished but during the process its a burden.

In addition, I believe that the Almighty will only answer selfless wishes (for the well-being of another); however, once in a while, a personal wish may be granted. You may ask things of God anytime, and sometimes he will answer, other times he wont.

maybe what god wants is not wishes but just somebody keeping in touch.

would you want a friend to only call you when she had a wish for you to grant?

its just a passing thought, not a serious conviction on my part

i think praying is what people do yo reasure themsleves that they have tthere own special place in there god/s/ess heart and that maybey for there faithfuness they may be rewarded

why i pray its simply becuase it shows my devotion when words or actions cannot express the deep love and loyalty i have for them
also its allot harder for my parents to catch me praying instead of a ritual or etc

According to the Nisut and my own belief, prayer is nothing more than communication between our world, the world of our senses, and the world of the unseen. The difference is the intended recipient, be they our ancestors, our past selves, the Gods and the Goddesses. If you went your entire life without communicating with anyone, real or spiritual, it would be very difficult to address your needs and opinions to others. To 'not pray' is to shut off communications with the unseen world and shut yourself off from a whole realm of beings that are willing and able to offer advice and help.
