"I can't give you my luck, not if I'm joining in myself." Alessa said, leaning over to take the top card of the deck. Flipping it up before her, she saw it was a seven of clubs, lower than what Ace had gotten. She gave a sigh of defeat, shrugged, and showed it to him. "I guess I lost." Alessa said, though there wasn't much regret in her tone. She had often purposely lost to her brother as he grew up, in almost all games besides video games (she actually gave her all in those). "I have no idea what you had in mind for the loser, but please go easy on me." She said as she handed the card back to him. It looked like she was going to stay longer than she thought.

Palian shadowed her movements to where the Karaoke machine projected the lyrics onto one of the wawlls of the cafe. She practically bounced with excitement as the beginnings of a popular song began to pierce the low tide of chatter from the onlooking crowds. He hadn't realized just how many people had gathered, either to escape the chill night air, or to listen to them, he could not be sure. It was exhilarating.

However, shortly after she began to sing, the music abruptly garbled into nonsense. Sighing, he looked to the panicked DJ, who was frantically trying to get the horrible sound to stop.

"Sorry folks, Technical difficulties. Give me a sec," the poor man said before returning to his laptop, trying to rectify the situation. Palian knew all too well how one scratched CD could ruin the mood.

"I got this," he said seductively to Tsukiko, brushing his hand over her shoulder. After a moments word with his compatriot, the music stopped altogether. Then the softest of guitars could be heard, plucked by none other than the night owl himself, mask lifted to one side to reveal part of his face. Smiling at the angel, he wondered if she would remember this one. They'd sung it so often in the past, they would have no need to see the words.

"When the days are cold, and the cards all fold, and the saints we see, are all made of gold."

Nemo looked at the card with uncertainty, a Queen of Spades. Flipping it around, he made sure that the rest of their party could clearly see it.

"I win right?" However, it was not the result of the game that had him worried so much as the show that was developing on the karaoke space they'd painstakingly made room for.

The barista scowled at Palian and Tsukiko as they sang. A knot was forming in the pit of his stomach, but he couldn't think of a way to fix this mess without making a scene of it. He very well couldn't march up to them and say they needed to stay away from each other, could he? Even IF he had the balls, he knew it wasn't the time, or place for it. Nemo fortified himself to talk with his brother again, and try to convince him to stay away.

Tsukiko watched him with raised eyebrows and confusion. She wasn't sure what he was doing even after her returned with the guitar. Her eyes widened as she song reached her ears. How did he know this song? More importantly how did he know that she knew this song?"

"When your dreams they fail. And the ones we hail. Are the worst of all. And the blood’s run stale."

Even if she was off her guard she was able to recover her lines. Why did she feel all nostalgic again? Taking a step toward him as he sang. Unsure of what was happening here. Thinking of the lyrics and how her dreams had once failed. Surly it was a coincidence? She let the music sink in as she tried to think. Tsukiko imagined a younger version of herself singing this alone in her room, but now she saw herself join by the man before her. He wasn't Ian, and she was happy for that.

"No matter what we breed. We still are made of greed. This is my kingdom. come. This is my kingdom come."

Their voices meshed so beautifully, she wasn't even surprised at this point.

"Don’t get too close. It’s dark inside. It’s where my demons hide. It’s where my demons hide."

He was a trickster and she pretended to be an angel. Did he understand the demon that hid in her past? The things that haunted her dreams? Surly he couldn't, taking a step away from him as if to hide herself. He was a trickster Dj host, that's all he was and she needed to accept that. Why did she feel like there was more to him? After all a simple google search would give him all the info on her.

Still if it was a simple revenge plot, why was he here singing. He could have easily laughed and walked off leaving her alone. Could this wanna be demon be attracted to the wanna be angel. Tsukiko smiled at him, he wasn't terribly bad after all. The trickster she'd known her whole life.

User ImageFyte held her breath as she watched Nemo draw his card, only to let out a sigh of relief when he revealed the queen. She still stayed quiet, not sure what to say, but noticed him scowling at Tsukiko and the guy she was flirting with. She tilted her head in confusion, but still didn’t say anything. She remembered that he and Tsukiko had grown up together, but she wasn’t sure if he was just looking out for her or something else. Then again, who was she kidding, Tsukiko treated Nemo like a brother, and hell said girl had thrown a bag of condoms at the two. Fyte shook the negative thoughts from her head; how could she have thought that about her friends?

“I-I’m sorry for slapping you.” she apologized instead, giving a small bow to Ace and BRDY. Facing the immediate situation at hand let her get her mind off of the jealousy forming in her. It wasn’t a pleasant train of thought, but sometimes, it just happened. They had to clean up the rest of this encounter though, before they moved onto other things.

"I wanna hide the truth, I wanna shelter you, but with the beast inside, there's nowhere we can hide.

Palian smiled, more warm than before when he heard Tsukiko's voice start to emanate from the mike. What had started out as a game, was beginning to evolve into something more. He wanted to keep her there, in this moment where she was most sublime. To hell with lies and tricks. He just wanted to be himself. To be apart of whatever quivering blossoming frail thing that suddenly appeared tonight that had been missing from his life in what felt like an eternity.

"No matter what we breed, we still are made of greed. This is my kingdom come, this is my kingdom come."

Distracted as he was, Palian was most surprised when he heard a gentle cymbal and a hollow drumming. Looking over his shoulder he spotted Nemo and Fyte. The young barista had an empty coffee can and the waitress had a pot lid and a whisk. Together they made a good complimentary sound to his guitar and their voices. He always had to remind himself that he wasn't the only one with musical talent in the family.

"When you feel my heat, look into my eyes. It's where my demons hide, its where my demons hide."

As their sound continued to evolve, the crowd started to both clear a space for them and condense together. Several were having a hard time containing themselves and were shouting and cheering. A few even clapped, but most stood dumbfounded by the impromptu performance.

"When the curtain call is the last of all. When the lights fade out, all the sinners crawl."

As he continued to strum the guitar, the infamous Dj positioned himself so that he could watch Tsukiko, and keep the other two between and behind them. They were the backups after all, not the real stars of the show. But they all seemed to be having a good time, and that was what counted most.

At that very moment, they were all having a good time, and somehow, at least for some, it seemed very reminiscent of a distant past that now didn't seem so painful to remember.

After revealing his card, Nemo looked to Fyte, who adorably was unable to hide a single emotion on her face. He didn't understand most of it, not being a mind reader or well versed in the realms of womans' moods. However, one thing that was clear was jealousy and he thought he knew why. She wanted to karaoke too. So after a hasty farewell to the two men, he grabbed her hand and lead her to their coffee station.

With a finger to his lips and a smile in his eyes, he lead her around the counter to the other side of the crowd where the singers were just beginning. Handing her the lid and the whisk which he'd knicked from the back, he encouraged Fyte to join their fellows. He wasn't much of a singer, but he could hold a beat with the best of them.

"Let's play," he whispered in her ear before beginning to step out with a rythmic beating of the can.

User ImageCurious and surprised, she let Nemo lead her behind the counter, and almost laughed when she saw him bring out the makeshift instruments. He always knew how to cheer her up, and she felt extremely silly of being jealous a moment ago. With a grin, she followed his lead, doing her best to mimic a cymbal. She never had explored music beyond choir and basic piano, but she had at least learned the basics of keeping a beat.

She couldn't help but watch Tsukiko as she moved to the stage, admiring how she always was in the spotlight. It suited her, and Fyte couldn't help but smile. She was glad that her friend was enjoying herself, and not putting on a mask to delude others. For once within the past few weeks, she felt like her friend was truly happy. She had to admit, if this guy (who had an amazing voice) was what made her friend happy, maybe he wasn't so bad after all.

"Tsk." Is all Ace said when he lost to Nemo, but smiled and nodded them off "Well here is the money and have fun you two." He says giving Nemo a wink for a send off. Turning over to face Alessa he smiled. "Don't worry, I didn't have anything nefarious planned, just to have some fun for the rest of the night. I kinda hoped to win so we could all do something as a group." BRDY nodded and sat down at the table pushing a chair towards Alessa to sit next to Ace. "Come and sit with us, tell us about yourself. I mean, you don't have to stick around with us if you don't want to and we are actually interested in learning more about you." He says leaning in closer to her.

She just shrugged, but there was a small smile on her lips. "I'm sure you were plotting something. You guys seem to be the type that always have some kind of scheme." She said lightly, but more in a joking manner. She took the seat BRDY had offered her, but leaned away as Ace leaned in. "Hmmm.....well, I go to this college, for starters....my dad's a cop, so I was thinking something something along those lines. I'm still not too sure." She sighed. It was hard to think about what she wanted to do with her life when she didn't even know what she wanted to do with herself for the weekend. Well, besides looking after her brother, but the kid insisted that didn't count. "I have a brother. I usually look after him, but he insisted that I go out and have fun tonight, which is why I'm here."

"So they dug your grave. And the masquerade will come calling out. At the mess you made."

How many years had it been? Hell how many years had it been since she attempted to dig her own grave. Still she couldn't help feel like there was more truth to the words she sang. Looking at the masked man before her, she knew the words were for him, maybe this was her calling him out for their brief encounter. She couldn't remember, but something held her back from him.

"No matter what we breed, we still are made of greed. This is my kingdom come. This is my kingdom come."

Nothing good could actually come from the two of them together. They were to different, yet to similar at the same time. The more she looked at him, the more she wished he would remove the mask covering his face. She wanted to see the man he really was, she wanted to know if there was anything the two of them could actually create together.

"When you feel my heat, Look into my eyes, It’s where my demons hide. It’s where my demons hide."

She wanted to face whatever this was head on, but she had no clue of the demons hiding right around the corner. All the things she didn't and couldn't remember, that might change everything to come.

"They say it's what you make, I say it's up to fate. It's woven in my soul, I need to let you go."

Placing her hand on her chest, she had never believed anything was truly out of reach. Still in her heart she believed in fate, Ian had been fated to die and she had been fated to chase his ghost for most of her adult life. She saw so much of Ian in the man in front of her, but deep down...Tsukiko knew she never truly had those feeling for Ian. Something about this man in front of her made her feel reckless, but safe. She didn't notice the others joining their little band, nor did she notice herself inching ever so closer to Palian.

And thus Halloween night concluded. The crowds milled about after the performance, slowly getting pushed out by Nemo and some help that volunteered. Everyone loved the impromptu concert, including the makeshift band. Not to mention all the cheers when the lead singer pulled back his mask and kissed his female counterpart. Then he made a hasty retreat, because there were shouts of fans who wanted to get a closer look at him and or wanted autographs. And so the famed Night Owl made his exit, tipping an invisible hat towards the stunned angel who unsettled him so.

After much encouragement and even a few halfhearted threats, Nemo and Fyte left Tsukiko to close up. They planned to be open a little later in the morning than normal, giving them time to clean up when they got back.

In no time at all, the events of the Holiday settled back into the normal sway of days.

You are the piece of me

Before Tsukiko realized fall had hit her tiny coffee shop. As per usual the 'pumpkin spice club' hit her small space before she even finished putting up the new window display. She didn't mind though, the fall crowd always brought a smile to her face. The small break between midterms and finals gave her time to breath and plan the final events for the small cafe.

Still she found herself glancing out the window a little more often after Halloween. Looking just a bit up the street towards the radio building that hosted the silly owl that had caught her attention. Though his mentions of a alpha girl didn't go unnoticed by her or his fans. Soon enough her patrons included a new groups that she dubbed the flock. Tsukiko easily welcome them into her pack, even working with Nemo to create a new drink they dubbed The Dark Owl.

Though with fall came time for her to sneak off to a few side modeling side jobs. Moon Child's return quickly became a quiet buzz across the net. Though Tsukiko knew she could hide from it forever. Nemo already knew and it was a matter of time before Fyte would confront her. Yet she worried how much had changed since her last time in front of a camera. She was older now, and she wondered if the cute innocent vibe of her alter ego could still be held.

Sighing as she gazed out the window. Tomorrow would be her first modeling experience since high school, and she wasn't exactly ready. The sky hid behind a thick cover of dark clouds that threatened rain. 'Stupid Owl,' she thought to herself more often than she wanted to admit. Tsukiko wanted nothing more to march to the radio station and shake the boy that clouded her mind.

As the last of the trees began to change color and leaves rained down at the slightest breeze, Nemo was found with a full plate. Between his fall classes, practicing basketball, and picking up whatever spare hours he could squeeze in, Nemo was booked. Every day, he'd start early by getting a cup of Dark Owl from the shop, wish Kiko and often times Fyte a good morning then off he went until late in the evening. Most days he was home well after Palian had left for work, so he hadn't seen him much since Halloween. Even though he was busier than a squirrel preparing for winter, Nemo seemed to be in good spirits despite it. He thrived in it, the stress of so much to do, whereas others would have buckled under the pressure.

"Hey Fyte," he called from his station one afternoon. They had just finished a rush of customers, all having wanted the new specialty. Nemo had to pat himself on the back for that idea. It was brilliant to use dark chocolate and cocoa mix in the coffee to give it a bite but keep it from tipping over the line of too bitter.

He waved her over from busing tables. There was one thing that he had been trying almost desperately to accomplish since Halloween. He hadn't told anyone, not even Tsukiko.

"Are you doing anything tonight after closing time?" he asked casually as he cleaned the espresso machine. Nemo found that if he focused on something else while he talked, he could remain focused and a little less confuddled. At least it worked in theory. The party had shown him that he was still just a simple fool when it came to Fyte, but he was determined to ask the girl he'd had a crush on since high school to go out with him. It couldn't be that hard, right?

"Cause tonight the theater is showing a bunch of old classic flicks as part of some anniversary. Wanna come with me?" he asked quickly, before his nerve won out. He fought it, but already he could feel the heat of a blush tinge his cheeks.

User ImageWhen Halloween passed midterms followed soon after. Between studying, work and her club activities Fyte didn't leave much time for herself. Not that she minded, she was always one to be the busy body. Amazingly, she only caved once under the pressure, to which Tsukiko had set her straight with some food, a cup of tea, and a break. But now, after all the midterms were done and Thanksgiving was next on the major breaks, Fyte was finding more time off to relax. Which usually meant she was spending that time working in the cafe. It was her way of making sure things were okay with her closest friends.

She had noticed mentions of the mysterious model "Moon Child" resurfacing on the net, right around when Tsukiko's mood seemed to change. She seemed anxious, and Fyte had a good idea why. She just needed to confirm that her roommate was the infamous model. However, she didn't want to interrogate the girl, but she just wanted her to know that no matter who she was or what she did, Fyte would be there for her. She didn't know how to do that without confronting her friend outright, which was why she hadn't asked yet.

It was in the middle of her musings that Nemo called her over to the barista counter. Curious, she set down her busing tray and went over so that they stood on opposite sides of the counter. Idly, she wondered if he needed help with anything; he usually didn't ask for help, which made Fyte wonder even more. So his question caught her completely off guard. She blushed out of surprise. It wasn't her first go around with someone asking her out, but she never had someone who she had a crush on ask her. Not to mention, she hadn't expected Nemo to ask her out. Not that she was upset about it!

"U-um yeah! I'd love to go!" She blurted out, surprised she didn't stutter much. She covered her mouth, her voice being louder than she had intended. She thoughts jumbled, which made her turn even pinker. Was she over thinking things? Fyte hoped she wasn't.

It had been a near thing, Palian discovered, having made his appearance at the party. His identity was a well kept secret and when rumors started fluctuating of his impromptu performance there was a mix of responses. Most of them were from die hard fans that now demanded he make an official performance, while others were excited to have been apart of it and esteemed themselves as a higher class of fan. It certainly hadn't hurt his ratings any and for that his producers were pleased.

They were so pleased in fact that when he came in to work a week later, he got word of a special guest that they were planning especially for him. Palian wasn't at all fazed by their direct evasiveness, in fact he enjoyed the idea that people thought themselves clever. There was in fact, only one person that they could invite that would get him genuinely excited and he was almost certain that she'd say no. However, that event was not to occur til December as a sort of New Year Hoopla special.

"That was Light 'em up by Fall Out Boy. One of my personal favorites if you viewers in radioland care to know," he said one evening from behind his well loved console. The night had gone quietly, as it often did during a mid week show. The callers were few, but that allowed him time to work in a few extra songs from his ever evolving playlist. With headphones on and the lights dimmed til he glowed from the leds of the console, he drawled through his messages and announcements like he were reading the headlines of a newspaper, keeping it short, sweet and upbeat. However it wasn't really what he wanted to do. Palian loved his job, it was one of the few times in his life that he felt like a master at his craft. But he kept feeling distracted. Like there was something not quite right.

"Now let's turn it up a notch as the clock strikes midnight. It's nearing the quite hour, when all good girls and boys are asleep. So if your tuning in, I'll assume that you are one of the many like me, that are just getting started."

As he worked he kept his over active mind busy by sorting through and editing his latest venture. It was a hobby now, less a profession, although he was damn good enough to live off it if he wanted. From time to time Palian would dust off his camera and work freelance for a modeling agency. He made sure it never interfered with his radio hosting, but his eye for angles and lighting made him constantly in demand. And that was good, because he needed to be on his game for his next appointment, a rebooting of a cult classic, Moon Child.
