If i discard snoww with my own effect, am i able to use her search effect, or do i still need my opponent to force me to discard. I don't get it. confused

As long it is discarded by an effect not as cost then you can activate Snoww's effect

when snow is discarded from your hand by anything that doesn't ay send or is a cost, you get snows search effect. when snow is discarded by an opponant, you get both effects.

Like what the other said, you get snoww eff if it wasn't sent to the graveyard by a cost
