I have graves disease, and the meds I'm taking are making it extremely difficult to maintain a comfortable weight. As of right now, I'm not overweight (yet) I'm 151 lbs and my height is 5'6". I would love to get down to my normal weight (125-135). I try to use moderation. I exercise as often as I can and I limit the amount of sweets and junk food I eat. The problem is is that while this helps me maintain, all it takes is a special event or something like that to steer me in the wrong direction and because my meds slow down my metabolism I seem to gain extra weight from it. I guess my question is that if I do double the exercise will it help me to lose weight?

Well I'll be honest I know little to none of graves disease, but I can't stand the thought of not saying anything. By all means I support you wanting to be happy and comfortable in your body and if losing weight means that then I just want you to remember that you need to be careful while trying to lose weight. Doubling exercise may help but you need to remember that you still need to intake a certain amount of calories and all that stuff so it isn't unhealthy. My mom was exercising on a program that had her eating very little and because she wasn't taking in what her body needed it only harmed her health. I can't tell you much about the issue with special events and such, well because I don't have much experience either. Like I said I don't know much about graves disease, so I can't provide you with the information you want, honestly dear I suggest seeking out the advice of a doctor. They usually can help or point you in the direction of somebody who can.

I agree with Huggable Overlord Nyx. If losing weight makes you happy then by all means - so long as you keep it within the healthy radar.
You probably already this but just cause you weigh alot doesn't necessarily mean it's all fat. Muscle weighs more than body fat so there are some people who misunderstand this whole "I weigh alot therefore I must be fat" sort of story.
If you're concerned about your weight, I would also suggest asking a professional trainer about a particular training scheme that you could use. Inform your trainer of your disease and since they're health professionals, hopefully you'll be able to sort things out.
