He almost missed Garrett's words, not because he was unfocused but more because he couldn't believe that the other would still--want his company though time had passed. It was unheard of for him. Yet the second confirmation woke him from his dazed thoughts, bowing his head slightly and bringing his hand discreetly to his mouth, a faint tinge of red on his lips that was thankfully, hidden with the shadows the buildings had cast as they walked.

His imagination was rather vivid, and it was what helped him get through the fleeting idea of him and this charming mercenary together. Yet with the warmth on his own shoulder--he wasn't sure that would suffice anymore. "You have my company," Sige vaguely finally got out, lifting his glue-green eyes to lock on the dark-skinned man. "You really do."

The change of topic made him regain some of his composure, his eyes shifting to admire Garrett's appearance and effortless charisma and towards the far-off deer who were very much content to be on their own and let their Chosen talk among themselves. "Arden already does that, every night and day." he said, though affectionately with a smile on his lips, "Yet I think that is so, that--they do have something great that we don't. I'm sure as we look after them, they will do the same with us." It was unusual for the brunette to be this positive about--anything, yet he was. May it be from this chance meeting with the dark-haired charmer with the combination of festivities and mostly intimate setting--he had much to be glad for.

And yet again he turned sharply to Garrett at that statement, met by a stunning smile. "The first time I've been so excited for the start of the year..." he murmured more to himself than to anyone, a glint in his eye with the suggestion. He wasn't sure at all what it entailed but he was certainly very hopeful for once in his life.

Despite that though, he tried to keep himself at bay though unable to resist the slight touch around his arm, his free hand resting on top of Garrett's for more than what he would have allowed himself to do. It was more private where they were now, the bright lights and louder sounds felt further. And this brought a multitude of more possibilities to him.

The gentle affirmation of Sige's company was not even remotely lost on the dark-haired man. Had Garrett no responsibility just then, he would have taken the merchant home and had his company -- well into the New Year. As it was, he had Aravel to be mindful of, which meant he would remain outside for a little while longer and do his best to keep his thoughts and light-hearted feelings about Sige contained. He didn't want to overwhelm the fawn with such complexities, not yet.

Garrett also didn't miss how much Sige's eyes were on him. Smiling and just a touch arrogant to have so much of the merchant's attention, his fingers lifted and lighted upon the hand that was covering his own, slowly smoothing over the top of Sige's knuckles until his palm was entirely resting upon the other's hand. The fingers being covered lifted slightly into the merchant's hold, entirely welcoming; despite his coy show of affection and interest, the mercenary's heart had decided to run off and pound a vicious tattoo against his ribs, eager and anxious. Speaking around the sudden flood of interest was hard, especially when he was still trying to protect the strong bond he shared with his fawn. "I can only hope Aravel will look after me, or we'll both end up in trouble and that would be most unfortunate. I need someone to help keep me in line." Well. Now that his attention was so fixated on Sige in a...different way, everything that came out of his mouth seemed to feel like an innuendo. Fantastic.

Luckily, it seemed Aravel still hadn't picked up on his wavering thoughts or simply hadn't acknowledged them, content to run around the large trees in the small copse of the gnoll, chasing Arden and his own tail when he got too excited. The mercenary couldn't help but wonder if he himself had ever been so innocent, life having rarely afforded such a luxury.

"So," he tried to get away from the encroaching promise of trouble if he kept going down the path of carnal thoughts, "do you have any new years plans? Traditions?" Garrett continued to lean against Sige, more comfortable since the man had been more receptive to his touch. "My family used to write out all our fears and misgivings and burn them at the turn of the new year. A physical removal of all that binds us unnecessarily." He smiled as fetchingly as he could at the merchant, even subconsciously trying to woo the brunette. "I'm a little less literal than that but the thought is nice."

The small touches set his light skin on fire, flushed and noticably warm despite the cold air passing through the two men. Sige's bright blue-green eyes grew darker not because of the shadows of the buildings cast on their figures.

His eyes were rather unfocused with the burning touch, the man bowing his head slightly to glance at their meeting hands almost in a wistful way, already wanting more than this. But of course he tried to not allow himself that, biting at the bottom of his lip though not stopping himself from squeezing Garrett's fingers affectionately. "I'm quite sure he will, he looks like a very able----" and then he paused. Really? This man thought himself attractive even after that first meeting? The innuendo was not lost on him, pausing for a moment and taking a deep breath at that statement. Sige could never really stop thanking his lucky stars from this moment. "I would look after you." It came out surprisingly gentle, yet he meant it with all his heart for this man who he had merely met only once before. But already seemed like--he didn't want to let go.

His eyes darted off to the two, innocently frolicking on the mostly empty streets now, the rich brown buck pouncing at Aravel when he got near enough, unafraid to bump his muzzle against the darker coat as they played together and explored the new area. The golden-eyed male was terribly focused on his companion that any thoughts that he may have shared with his chosen mixed with his bright and happy feelings--which was the same as what Sige was feeling.

"Ah..." the question actually startled the man, looking thoughtful before he answered. "That is curious. My mother usually made me tell her the things we were grateful for instead." he smiled softly remembering this. "Yet 'facing' your fears and having the courage to write it at all in the new year--that is an admirable tradition." And the fetching smile certainly got to Sige, never ever missing any slight gesture or expression of the dark-haired man beside him.

He looked at the man rather dreamily, "It.. certainly is very nice.."

The squeeze of fingers earned a happy little sound from the mercenary, bright green eyes lowering to admire their politely clasped hands. It wasn't as intimate or locked as if they were intertwined, but he would take what he could get --

Garrett's gaze sharply focused before flicking to Sige's face and staying there. I would look after you. How was he supposed to take that? How was he supposed to filter those words so they weren't as important and exciting as they were, to make it less than what it was so he wouldn't grow even more attached to the brunette that he so light-heartedly teased? His heart ached with the want of saying something, but he was, for the moment, speechless. Even the words that came after it, trying to diffuse the situation, didn't seem to dislodge the sudden high that Garrett was on, nodding numbly though his wide eyes didn't leave the other's face. The way Sige was looking at him was too perfect, too inviting, and the mercenary was never so rude as to refuse an invitation. Before his lips could part, before he could lean in closer, he found himself awash in sudden golden light. The loud BOOM that followed made him physically jump, turning his startled eyes over his shoulder towards the fireworks display that was now going off, painting the sky like day.

Garrett was positive his heart stopped then. It was the New Year, and he had a tease to upkeep. Sucking in a breath of burning paper and the heat of the fireworks, he wordlessly turned back towards the copse of trees and all but dragged Sige towards them, his footsteps hurried. He released the merchant's arm once they reached the small island of grass so that he could instead actually take his hand in his, pulling him towards the back of the trees with determination. Once comfortably sheltered from the light, he stepped behind one of the broad set trunks and pressed his back against it, taking Sige with him. He offered no warning before he let go of Sige's hand, instead seizing his face and with the utmost gentleness despite his sharp and demanding movements previously, partially pulled the merchant towards him while leaning to him to meet him halfway, and kissed him on the lips. It was firm and sweet, lingering in the gesture much longer than he had at the bar, hoping -- beseeching that Sige might return his affection this time.

And not too far from where his Chosen was making a play to the poor merchant, Aravel was still widely unaware of what was going on between them -- mostly because the loud boom had just about terrified the fluff off his tail. One moment he'd been bumping noses and chasing and being chased by Arden, and the next the sky was exploding as the sun and stars seem to battle for supremacy of the night. His green eyes were upturned and wide, his narrow chest rising and falling rapidly as he tried to determine if he should flee or stand and fight -- and having little to no help from his Chosen, who was only sending him feelings that felt and looked just like the bright shots of color in the sky...

In that moment, the fawn had a small but intelligent understanding at drawing parallels between what his Chosen was feeling and the visuals in the sky. It couldn't be bad, then, if the feeling was the same, and if his Chosen wasn't afraid, then...he wouldn't be, either. Still rigid with his legs splayed awkwardly to the sides as though he were in threat of falling to the ground, Aravel subtly leaned against Arden, both for support and comfort. It was still new, and it was still scary - each boom met with down turned ears and a jerking of his head backwards - but he was going to stand his ground and stay with his friend!

Sige flinched at the sudden burst of light, interrupting him only momentarily from the moment he shared with the other. His darker sea-green eyes on Garrett especially when he took his arm suddenly --and Sige wordlessly following the darker brunette as if the fireworks had triggered something in both of them.

It took a while for the man to realize that it was because the clock had struck midnight, the wild frenzy of the celebrations reaching them easily. His expression was almost dazed, following the younger man into the part where not much light reached, trusting him completely as he took his hand in his, twining his fingers almost nervously. It was the first time in a new year that Sige actually felt---hopeful, excited and feeling a sense of something perfect about to happen. And as soon as he felt those warm lips on his, the fire in the sky was nothing compared to the burst of sensation and heat he felt.

He was right, something perfect did happen.

At first he did nothing but lean into the sweet kiss, as if it was the first time he felt those soft lips on his, feeling, memorizing this moment. Thanking everything that was sacred that he could actually take his time now. Yet his actions betrayed his thoughts, his arms lifting to wrap around Garrett's waist, carefully at first but securing the dark-skinned man in his firm grasp in a matter of seconds, never breaking the kiss. He couldn't take it, he really couldn't make himself resist himself. With the wild and bright painting of the sky, and tasting Garrett's breath, he was undone as leaned into the mercenary, parting his lips and taking in the man further, impatiently seeking more.

As with his playmate, Arden bowed his head in scared terror of the sudden loud blasts in the sky, blinking as the brights blinded him momentarily, letting out a scared little sound. Yet he stood in place, trying to feel if Aravel was near him and felt a rush of comfort as he felt a warm weight on his own body. Arden lifted his bright eyes to look around the darkness, scared for his Chosen yet--faintly feeling him close-by, somehow feeling another kind of burst of explosion from him that baffled him. But distantly he knew that Sige would have wanted him to be brave, the fawn putting up a brave face as he lifted his head, facing back at the chaos of the night sky. He shivered at each time the light hit the other stars above, leaning his head on Aravel's neck in attempt to protect him somehow.

Though he'd all but begged for a return show of affection, Garrett hadn't been expecting it, let alone daring to hope for it. When Sige's arms wrapped around him, tightening and holding him with a sort of finality, it felt like the mercenary's legs were becoming unhinged, tremoring and unsteady. It was nothing compared to the way his entire form seemed to melt against the merchant as the kiss was not only returned, but taken, and demanded more of; his fingers desperately sought the back of Sige's neck, curling into the tips of his hair and holding him in the closeness that steadily became more dangerous as he invited the brunette to the more intimate kiss. He could feel his grasp on where they were and what they were doing steadily beginning to slip, all his worry, concern and feelings washing away in the heat of the moment.

Another BOOM, and Aravel could hardly stand it anymore, tucking his head against the fluff of Arden's lower neck, ears laying flat against his head. All the whooping and hollering was enough to make him want to tuck tail and flee home - or at least, somewhere quieter than there. The brightness that stained the night sky also disorientated him, prompting him to close his eyes and simply nestle his head into the other's rich fur. Arden was a great comfort in that chaos, Aravel sorely needing the reassurance since his Chosen was given him none...

And it was about the time that Aravel was lamenting the lack of security in the moment that he realized he was receiving some very bizarre colors and feelings from his Chosen. It was faint -- almost hazy, a light buzz in the fawn's head -- but there, persisting where Garrett usually would lock off the stronger emotions so as to not overwhelm him. It was like a door that was always locked suddenly being ajar and, Aravel being far too curious in his youth to pass it by, swiveled one ear upwards and towards his Chosen even as he remained tucked against Arden for the moment. The strange sensation was getting 'louder,' and with a quizzical twitch of his tail, he slowly lifted his head, blinking at Arden and then beyond him where their Chosen were yet obscured in the darkness.

With no reservations or hesitance, the man took this mercenary as wholly as he could, in the heat of the moment. That pull of his shirt and the feel of Garrett's lips on his once again igniting that desire within him that was barely kept inside. He leaned against him, gripping at his sides with much more force and roughness than he had intended, the scent and taste of the man so close and full, he was drunk on him. There was no other way to explain it.

He shivered with the subtle tremors of the other, his legs practically pinning the man against the rough bark of the tree as the sky was alight and the sounds drowned them out, yet Garrett was all Sige could hear and see.

Yet with Arden, it was a completely different story yet similar in a way that his thoughts and emotions were in a wild explosion that he didn't know what to do with it all. Bravely Arden stood in place, strong and sturdy yet flinching at each loud boom in the sky, looking over to Aravel is quiet assurance for his Chosen was nowhere in sight. Yet he could certainly feel Sige--much more stronger than he ever had, it was strange how the other--who was so private and muted in his emotions would suddenly give all these bright senses. But that wasn't completely what Arden was thinking of--for now he and his friend had to escape the fiery monster in the sky.

His ears were flat against his crown like his companion, bowing a head to Aravel in assurance that he was right there with him. He licked at the fawn's crown before he took a sudden step backward from another deafening explosion. They sorely needed the help and like Aravel, he looked at the direction of the shaded trees, golden eyes looking from that space and back to his friend.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 09, 2012 1:06 pm

Arden's gentle encouragement and bold protection gave Aravel the confidence to move without buckling under the fireworks and fleeing, though he stayed pressed close to the fawn's side. He wasn't going to abandon his new friend, but they needed to move, and he wasn't feeling safe enough to do so on his own. With a few reassuring licks against Arden's ear, the dappled fawn turned and took a few wobbling steps back from the firework display - not so far to be out of range of Arden's touch, but enough to start leading his friend to their Chosen for safety.

Aravel was steadily forgetting about 'safety,' however, and was more consumed with a need to jar his Chosen out of whatever this loud, bright emotion was. Flitting with fear of fireworks and contending with his Chosen's chaos was making him feel almost exasperated. As he crept closer to the Chosen, the bright lights and sounds felt drowned out by Garrett, concerning the fawn as it didn't seem to lessen in intensity. It wasn't until the fawn was standing right next to them, blinking up at their strangely entangled bodies that he realized his Chosen wasn't even aware of him. Whatever plane of existence he'd gone to, he'd left Aravel behind, and that simply wouldn't do.

Huffing in the indignity of a child who doesn't understand why the attention isn't on him, Aravel put his front hooves precariously on the tree, standing on his wobbly hind legs, and bit Garrett's arm.

"Hah--!" Garrett gasped out of sharp pain and the sudden need for air, gripping Sige tighter in a bid to get away from the sudden affront to his tricep. The mercenary blinked a few times, lips still tingling with the pressure that was no longer upon them, groggily looking at the merchant that had him pinned against the tree and eventually, slowly, looking to his right and directly into Aravel's glowing green stare. He jumped, visibly startled, before reality and awareness crashed down around him with a resounding BOOM of the fireworks beyond them. The dark-haired man looked suddenly between Sige and the two fawns, feeling Aravel's confusion and annoyance, and began to laugh in an entirely rueful manner.

He'd forgotten his responsibility - he'd forgotten where he was, he'd forgotten himself entirely when he'd had Sige against him. Drawing in a steadying breath as his laughter was pulled under control, he leaned his weight against Sige, disentangling one hand from the merchant to gently rub between Aravel's ears. The man felt a bit weak and entirely disappointed, as stopping hadn't been in his schedule. "Alright, alright, Ara. I'm fine. You're fine too. Shh, love." And almost immediately, he was flooded with relief and comfort from the fawn, the likes of which pulled out a vicious spark of guilt. He had really been irresponsible in minding his fawn and the chaos of the intricate feelings, and that coupled with the fireworks...

"Poor lambs," he murmured, though he couldn't shake the heat that lingered in his chest, still pressed against Sige. Turning his green eyes to Sige's impossibly beautiful sea-greens, he grinned, crooked and self-serving. "But you, my dear merchant. You are in trouble and I demand your presence when our little bundles of joy are a little older." With Aravel leaning against both their legs now, still burning with guilt at how he'd all but forgotten the fawn, Garrett would have to be more mindful, even if it meant not time to do the things he enjoyed the most. He'd just have to be...patient, which, unfortunately, he was not in the least. Giving Sige a shorter, chaste kiss, he murmured, "Happy New Year, Sige."

Arden followed Aravel close by, definitely watching him in case any of those bright explosions attacked them--he was determined to keep the darker fawn safe from it even though he was simply terrified at each crack at the sky. He walked beside the other, steps faltering as if he was learning how to talk, each step flighty and rather panicked. But his friend was there for him as he was there for him, that gave him the confidence to approach the shaded trees.

The brown fawn could definitely feel the familiar presence of his chosen yet-- there was a huge difference in his aura that he couldn't place, something he had never felt his whole time with Sige or even anything near it. He was purely confused, calling out to his owner though his voice was easily lost within the celebrations of the new year. Even Arden was surprised when his companion bit at the other human, choosing to stay in place although it was hard when his chosen had such strong, noisy and intense thoughts.

Needless to say, those passionate emotions from Sige only heightened--that is until the mercenary let out a cry of pain. "Wha---" he raised his head up from his claim though his body still fit perfectly against Garrett. Did he hurt him? Was his grip too tight? Did he push too hard--- he internally panicked with a dazed look on his face, whole body still burning in that heat, though he loosened his grip but still holding the dark-haired man against him. And when he felt a gentle touch to his leg, that was when he looked down to see the two attention-deprived fawns, Arden giving him sad golden eyes as he sent feelings that begged for comfort. And when he heard Garrett comforting Aravel he took one of his hands to touch briefly on his deer's head which immediately earned a favourable response. Wordlessly he assured Arden it was alright. For the first time in his life Sige felt he was irresponsible-- entirely wanting to make it up to the young fawn. But even so, he didn't really have regrets about what had passed for the few minutes.

He looked back on the man of his affections, meeting those bright greens that he could still see clearly despite the shade. He let out a brief chuckle at the words, "When they're older." he repeated, not exactly liking the idea of not --feeling Garrett this way in some form or another but his head telling him that the man was right. They had a responsibility, a great one --- he would be patient, yet somehow it was hard to actually convince himself to go through with it especially as Garrett's hard body was still against his. He lidded his eyes at the chaste kiss, another bright explosion in the sky lighting them up for a brief second. "Happy New Year, Garrett." he replied, leaning in to kiss the man again in his private haven, still feeling that it was just the two of them in this world. "I'm glad to start the year with you. Best --year ever." The merchant said sincerely, his lips curling upwards as he brought a hand up to brush at the man's cheek, unable to move away.

Aravel leaned against Arden once they'd both received the attention they desired, feeling grateful for his friend's presence. He was tired, now; the exertion of restraint against his fear and the flood of emotions from his Chosen had worn out the fawn, prompting him to lift his head and yawn with a wide expression from his pale mouth. Blinking his green eyes at Garrett sleepily, he turned his head and nestled against Arden's neck, gazing off into the darkness without any lingering upset. He was safe now, and no noise could change his mind of that.

Garrett sighed softly at the touch of his cheek, eyes lidding as he regarded Sige. He would have given almost anything to take the man home, but that wasn't in their cards right now; no matter the distance they might have tried to put between themselves and their fawns, the connection that was still so young and raw needed to be nurtured, not abused by heady feelings of longing and unfiltered excitement. "I look forward to the rest of the year, then," he replied in gentle teasing, smiling at Sige whole-heartedly. "I want you to come by whenever you'd like a drink or a few moments to rest, do you hear me? I insist."

Departing was the hardest part. Disentangling from Sige's warm embrace, knowing there was a cool walk home to an empty bed...wasn't how he'd wanted to start the New Year. The promise of what was to come was enough to tide him over, however, feeling like something good might be in the wind for a change. Garrett imparted the location of his home to the merchant and, giving Arden an affection and apologetic stroke of his fur and stealing one last kiss, he and his sleepy fawn made their way into the night.

Arden was tired like his companion, the adrenaline of it all and the nerve-wracking sudden emotions that he experienced from Sige was enough for the day. The young fawn touched his nose on his dark friend's pelt, now comfortable and happy they were both safe and in one piece together. Despite all that had passed and him being ready to head home, he really didn't want to part with Aravel, much like his Chosen with Garrett.

Sige's emotions were very much still intense, blue-green eyes following Garrett's beautiful greens, the way his dark hair fell on his face and the way his mouth moved as he spoke to him. But he had to be calm and collected once again for Arden and Garrett and his fawn. He exhaled deeply, the cool air forming a faint fog from the warmth and heat still fresh on his mouth. "Yes, I will come." he said almost immediately after realizing the brunette had actually wanted to see him again--and in his own home. Just the thought was enough to make him eager for the days to end till that next meeting. "I will come to you, whenever I can." He smiled, touching his knuckles to the dark skin. And he took that last kiss, savored it before they parted ways.

It seemed like a short walk home, the young man's thoughts so filled with Garrett and how good he felt and of course, how perfect it seemed that he would see him again soon.
