Now I know having a dumb-as-fuuk main character makes describing everything to the player super easy, but seriously, Ashe is way more of a main character plot wise, and Balthier is always going on about being the main man or whatever, and then Vaan has like the best stats of all characters, that don't make no sense, he should have good thief stats and that's it.

Vaan had the best stats for you?
He was worthless in my game, at the same level as Basch and Ashe he was just outclassed in all categories. All I used was Basch + Ashe, with Balthier being third. I only brought Vaan out for Quickenings.
Basch was #1 Melee, #2 in Magic. Ashe was #1 Magic, #2 Melee. Balthier was #3 in Melee, #4 in magic (Fran bested him there, but all the other stats were weaker)

Well as soon as I could leave rabanastre with Vaan I pretty much explored as much of the world as possible and did every quest possible... that may have done it, though as soon as I had 4 members i replaced him for good so he never got far in my party either. I've heard he has the best base stats though, is that not true?

Fun fact: The original protagonist of the game was planned to be Basch. I can't recall why they changed it but if you ask me they used him as the character to explain how things worked, in other words the Tutorial, Background history, et cetera. His actually role in the story though is not actually that great, rather he served as a better inspiration for Basch as Vaan's brother was Rex, the person who was crushed so low and tricked into believing that Basch betrayed them and allowing the Archadian Empire to take Dalmasca with minimal to no loss of resources.

Always so much Vaan hate.
I can see why people dislike him so, and I think perhaps they could have indeed made him a better character, but I can see why they made him as he is. He is mostly the watcher, things are more going on with the other characters. Much like how it would be if any of us would be in his position. P:

And he is rather stupid at times, but he is a kid, and he grows somewhat during the game. So while I don't hate or dislike him, I don't love him or think he doesn't need to be better.
Personally, I think Balthier or Basch should have been, because both of their back stories were the best, IMO. I didn't care much for Ashe...she was just kinda...eh. Her backstory was not as great and perhaps...lacking? She got kinda annoying too sometimes. Oronar Skirata Fun fact: The original protagonist of the game was planned to be Basch. I can't recall why they changed it I believe it had something to do with how old he was...which is really stupid IMO. I would LOVE to learn more about him, Noah, and their past . It would have been so epic. D':

Personally I find they released enough information on Basch and Noah's past if you just looked around.

I figured Vaan was pointless after he forgave Basch... that was his final part to play in the storyline. Honestly, the game was wonderful except for a lot of little stupid things like that. I had similar problems with FFIX. *shakes fist violently at the ever pointless Quina* I remember thinking that I missed the days when it was the whole world in danger in FF's not just a certain country or something like that. However, that really only seems to be a problem in the Ivalice games. Since they've never so much as shown the entire world it's always only been a political problem between countries. After Kefka, I don't think that will ever be enough for me. Maybe that's why FF8, 9, X, and 12 will never be my favorites.
