The Tete'boma seemed way too strong to give in to a weakness like the plague. But it was just a matter of numbers... It was the fact that there remained a few of them there to continue thriving under the wrath of what struck them.

Perhaps there was some part of Kani that was very attracted to her. No; of course he had been attracted to all their quips, their competitions, their... tension. It was part of what made them the couple they were.
