It would have been a lie if Kalyan said he didn’t expect his detour to lead him so far astray. Not that he had any real plan to start. But even with the purpose of his journey being rather aimless, it eased his mind to stick to a general course; so ending up in a predicament as far north as the Everweld forest…well. Umesh and his companion were becoming particularly irritable. Luci hated the constant moving. Traveling wasn’t at all the ‘adventure’ she thought it would be, and the result usually led her into the bottle like prison that kept her safe from winds- and the travel bag safe from her crown. Just as well, the grimm never much liked Shyregoed to begin with; it was always colder than it needed to be, and that brought out the worst in him. Any work that leaded him here was usually never worth it- unfortunately this time the choice wasn’t up to him. A horrible turn of events saw fit to consecutively run his luck into the ground. So now here he was, running errands for strangers.
A tinkering noise came from behind, and he gave an irritated sigh. “Kal! Take me out!”
“Absolutely not.”
“You know very well I don’t like it in here!”
“It’s been a long day, Luci, and this box needs to get to the next street over without another incident,” Kalyan ground his teeth at the complaint. “It is delicate, the only way we can afford payment, and I don’t need anything else being set on fire.”
“I apologized for that already! What do you want me to do?”
“Sit there and stay quiet, before I entertain an experiment on whether you truly require breathing holes or not.”
“Y-you-!”
“Quiet. We’re almost there. And you’re drawing attention,” he said this, but few turned to barely glance at the strange situation that was Kalyan Umesh. The residents of Anica were too busy to notice the overbearing figure with the usual gait of a sailor, although his current walk looked more like a bad limping motion. His coat was buttoned to the collar for the first time in years, and sleeves rolled to the elbow. There was some haphazard binding on the right hand, made more obvious against the dark wood of the crate he carried. It was a favor for favor, something he very much appreciated the apothecary for doing. The trip over all took a day and a half, but he’d finally gotten the supplies they needed.
”If we’re almost there, then why don’t you allow me outside! Kalyan!” The human ignored her for the sake of limping faster.
