My Fiancé and I are getting a new house, much closer to the City for his job. This is a pretty big change for me, because I'm used to living more in the country, surrounded by plants and wildlife x3
Anyway, I need some tips on things I can do around the house to save on money for bills and food! We're both gamers, so our electricity bill can get quite high -_-'
I'd also like some nice, cheap yummy meal ideas too ^^ Whenever I cook, I like cooking a massive banquet of food xD But money is going to be a bit low after we move, so I really can't afford to. Any good ideas?
Thanks in advance~ ^w^

It's around $25,000 to switch to solar, that's not really an option for us >w< Especially since we're already paying $2,000 for the bond on our new place D:

Even with the power being off, the electricity still has a pull going on somewhere. Have you tried to preserve energy by turning everything off at the breaker box when you're not at home? Obviously keep the power on to the refrigerator so you don't loose your food. Seriously though, turn off what you don't use on the breaker box when neither one of you are home. That will help with $$. Have an a/c but don't want to foot the bill? Try a window unit. A window unit can help in the long run.
I live in the country too. We try to save on energy during the hottest time of the year by doing simple things. Like when we wash our clothes, we try to dry everything on a clothes line outside to help out. Our washer and dryer are in the kitchen and the dryer can get hot, by not only making the kitchen hot but the living room as well. We open up windows to help let in fresh air sometimes too.

I only ever dry my clothes outside rofl you could save on food by eating nothing but ramen for a couple months. emotion_awesome

To save on food only make what you need for 2 people. Pasta is always good, and if you have any left over you can make a salad. Bread, rice and potatoes too...all starches, but they fill you up! Instead of doing all of your shopping at one store, there are typically several stores you can shop at for different things. I just found this store that has produce for amazing prices! Then walmarts typically have a good price on eggs and stuff...Just look around. You can save a lot of money by going to different stores. Also, look at the discount sections and fill up on bread (you can always freeze it)
As for recipes.. I just make whatever we happen to have in the house. It depends what type of food y ou like too...

Keep a cleaning schedule and keep it neat and tidy If you make bulk food you can freeze it, into its own separate bags and than pull it out like a TV dinner to eat later that month (reduces cost of making only enough for one meal) Grow a garden to cut down on the cost of vegetables and fruits Meals that stretch for several days are less expensive than meals for two just remember to freeze them and eat later or eat over the next couple of days.
Call you electric company and find out if somebody else is using your energy. It does happen and you need to see who has wired their home to yours. Than you can try to get the electric company to refund you for what they over charged you.
Find out if they offer a food assistance program and see if you qualify for it. Plus find food pantries and see about picking up odds and ends there. No shame in asking the government for aid to eat.
