I don't know if I'm putting this in the right subforum, but I'm posting it anyway. I put up an avi in the arenas her on Gaia. It was a resubmission of an avi I'd submitted a couple weeks ago. Now, I'm not really proud of my latest submission. Thanks to the lack of really good cosplay items on Gaia, the second avi was boring. Especially when compared to the first, but it was closer to the reference I was using. But that's not the point I'm trying to make.
Here's my point: I try to be as respectful to other Gaians as I can. I don't swear or flame others in the arenas. And I most definitely do NOT tell them to GTFO as a comment on their submission. Which is what the latest comment on my recent avatar submission to the arenas was. Someone putting only GTFO. No explanation of why they think I should or what was wrong with my avatar. Only GTFO. I reported the comment, but it still hurts. Is it really too much to ask that I get a little respect? It's not like I was submitting my avi to be stupid. That would be a waste of gold. Seriously, is it too much to ask that I would trust that people wouldn't post comments like that? Is it too much to ask that I get a little respect in return for the respect I give?

People tend to be incredibly disrespectful over mediums such as the internet, where there is no real human contact involved. They forget that they're talking to a real person, and just treat each other like meaningless pixels. It is a rare occasion that you find someone who breaks away from that, and those select few people are rather precious. It's part of why I love BURN- I do feel like a good number of people here that know me would actually care if something happened to me, and probably wouldn't tell me to GTFO any thread they saw me in.
Giving respect does not always guarantee getting it, but never stop giving it. Those select few who respect you for your patience are worth more than any kind of lashing out you could do, trust me on that. It's a lesson I learned the hard way.

I know there are a lot of people who forget they're actually talking to other people over the internet, but it really hits home when they do something like that. This is only the second time I've had to report somebody because of their conduct in my six years of being on Gaia, and it really hurts me that I have to report anyone.

SKBCTayuyaFluteofDeath Thank you. I know there are a lot of people who forget they're actually talking to other people over the internet, but it really hits home when they do something like that. I've moderated websites, played around on 'chan, used GAIA for years and years, been a member of tons of avi sites, been a part of the Magic: The Gathering Community for even longer...and I still catch disrespect, ignorance, and lack of tolerance for random things. Keep your chin up. I know, that's the advice everyone has given you forever. So, er...keep your knees up? I dunno, just keep up. If keeping up isn't enough...good. Run ahead of the pack. Don't let people stuck in their own discontent drag you back into their slow crawl- Keep jogging, you got this.

I can't say that I am innocent and have never ridiculed someone's avatar submission. There have been multiple times when I beat on someone so hard, they delete their submission so call me an a** if you feel. However, I don't stomp people down without explanation or have ever(at least I don't remember or have tried) straight up telling someone to get out. But when I see an avatar that has some serious flaws, I will be harsh with them. I only do this when the avatar has practically nothing to do with it's theme. Like I said, I do offer advice on what to fix. I just believe that if I am harsh with it, the advice will stick with them in future submissions.
I just thought I should say something on behalf of those harsh people out there who make good points to help other artists.

I actually ask for people who make points to help other artists. What I'm upset about is that the comment was only "GTFO". Nothing else.

The strange thing is, I hate it even more when someone tells me they like it but don't say what is nice about it. If someone gives me a complement without reason I feel like I am just being patronized and the person doesn't really care. An insult without explanation is easy to recover from, either by being vengeful twisted or by making me revise my submission and realize I did something stupid.
