Ok first thing's first, I do realise that this will make me sound like a 12-year-old fangirl or something but it's really bugging me...

I shall start off by saying I saw The Avengers with a couple of good friends a couple of weeks ago and as I've been trying to figure out how the heck to use Tumblr I have stumbled upon so many fan blogs talking about Loki (and consequently Tom Hiddleston). I know that the Avengers "Loki" is a character based off the mythology pertaining to the real Loki.

BUT. Everytime I see a picture with Loki as portrayed in the Avengers or Thor or whatever other Marvel movies he's in I can't help but get a little excited because it's essentially Tom Hiddleston bringing the character to life. I then come off my little fan-girl-high and immidiately feel bad because I think I should be more sensible.

Couple that with the fact that the first few times I made an offering to Odin I kinda forgot Loki...
I'm thinking that I actually need to sit down and try to say something to Loki and explain that well...I can be a fan-girly idiot sometimes and please don't overlook me, that sort of stuff...but I have no idea how to go about it. Well that and I have to aplogise for forgetting him... sweatdrop

There's actually very little overlap between the mythology and the comics. I haven't seen the Avengers but honestly I'd distance yourself from the comic/movie stuff for a while if you're studying, just so you don't confuse yourself or muddle things up in your head.

Also I made this picture, like, 3 years ago.

I absolutely loved The Avengers. It's loads of fun. But don't think that it has anything to do with the mythology or personalities of the Norse pantheon. That Loki isn't the Norse Loki in any way. (A note about the comics: Loki is Odin's son and Jormungand, the World Serpent, is Odin's brother...WTF??)

As for approaching Loki, San would know more about that then I do but, while I honor him when I pour to Odin, I'm perfectly fine with him overlooking me. I've got no beef with him but, as I understand it, being noticed by Loki and having him take an active interest in you can be...interesting...and often uncomfortable.

It's worth noting as well that the comic book Asgardians are aliens.
They're not true gods but otherworlders who came to Earth in antiquity. Loki is still Odin's -adopted- son in the comics - it is a rather big plot point. (FWIW, I thought The Avengers was passable, but I'm not a movie person. I prefer the actual comics.)

As for the other: well, I offer to Odhinn, but in a very specific context. If I were offering for a different reason, I might also pour out for Loki. But as it stands, I don't, and I don't think Loki takes issue with that.

What little interaction I've had with Loki left me with an entirely different impression than what I got from Marvel Movie Loki, who is shallow and really quite toothless by comparison. I want to say that if the Loki people are encountering acts and reacts like Marvel Movie Loki, that they've gone and made an egregore for themselves.

On the bolded, very uncomfortable. I forgot him once. Not a mistake I will repeat. I had 2 months of my life getting turned upside down before I realized what I'd done and remedied the situation. I very much hope that I never attract his attention again.

To my understanding, even his positive attentions can be rather uncomfortable, depending on your personality.

I've never found them uncomfortable, but it might be a personality thing. He's intense, but not more so than Oðinn, and He can unsettle you but again not more than Oðinn.

The Loki on the Avengers seems sort of like a petulant child who's clamouring for attention. The real Loki is much more... subtle? Introspective? Deep? Aware? Not necessarily subtle in what He does, subtle as a being. The thing is, I've never been able to work out why He does what He does. Does He just like to poke things to see what will happen, or does He have some sort of purpose and plan for it all? Does He do things just because He feels like it at the time? It's probably sometimes one and sometimes the other and sometimes something else altogether. But He's cunning and He's clever and He's perspicacious. I haven't seen the movies or read the comics so I don't know if those qualities are reflected in the character, but I get the idea that the comics' interpretation of the basic arc of the myth is very childish and shallow.

I guess if I could give any advice it would be not to rush headlong into anything. Know where you are stepping and know yourself. Keep in mind anything you say might be taken very seriously so don't commit yourself to anything accidentally. He doesn't just want your service, He wants your love, and He'll get it.

FWIW, I don't think He dislikes the way His name is all over the place at the moment, even if the person getting the attention is a character (and an actor) rather than Himself.

I can agree that Odinn is rather intense and can be intimidating. Actually, so can Freyja when she want to be. I guess that kind of thing just comes up more with Loki. More people are likely to get involved with Loki without actually knowing what they're getting into because they don't take him seriously enough. People just don't seem to get that he finishes what he starts, even if you lose interest. Or you hear more horror stories because there's often a blind negative reaction against him from many. Not that these things don't happen with others, just that I've noticed a significantly higher instance of such with Loki. Also, I've known at least one person that had a massively difficult time adjusting to Loki's attentions because she preferred a very calm and orderly existence. This woman plans everything in meticulous detail and he has a tendency to disrupt her plans. She's had to get a lot better at improvising and it's not been a comfortable transition for her.

I guess there's some stuff some people really wouldn't do well with. I know every so often I'll take myself way too seriously for a while, and I'll get a day when bad things happen just constantly. Little things, like breaking stuff and dropping stuff and hurting myself in little ways by stubbing my toe or snapping myself with a rubber band or something, until it reaches the point where it's laugh or cry. So I laugh. And I guess there are people who would cry. Which means you'd just get the same awful day over and over until you get the message.

My interactions with the Norse Gods has been limited and brief and only really with Thor. Thor is currently the only deity I actually worship though I rarely take time out to specifically worship Him(note to self: I should) but every time I do interact with him, especially when its storming and i get energized from 'having His hand on me' so to speak, Thor has been friendly and warm. Definitely capable, competent and deadly but nonetheless welcoming, like a warrior offering a drink to another warrior.

I have had very limited interaction with Odin. Mostly via Thor. I feel like He's there watching and evaluating .Judging. But teaching. Advising subtly. His scrutiny is unbearably uncomfortable for me. Its far too intense and far too...makes me feel a lot less worthy shall we say.

I have no interaction with Loki as near as I can tell. I am fairly neutral on Loki having never interacted with him. Its not so much that I don't want attention as I would rather not have things acting oddly.

Yeah, that generally lines up with Thor. In Viking times (at least later Viking times, around the Saga Age) he seems to have been most popular with the common man, while Odinn was the god of kings. He's generally a fairly easygoing sort.

Ironically or possibly not today at work I had a few minor little hiccups nothing big. But it is after I posted this. lol

Ok wow...kind of annoyed I haven't been on for a couple of days now because then I could break this down a little better, so excuse anything that seems a little incoherant.

I'll start off with Sang: I've actually ever read the Avengers comics so I wouldn't know how much in common they have with each other, I just assumed there would have to be some overlap at least. As much as I can I'll try to distance myself from the hype at the moment, but it's kinda hard considering my housemates can't go five minutes without talking about the movie. Nice picture by the way, it made me smile after a shitty day.
Loki in the Avengers does seem to be one of the classic American-style villans though - there's not much to the charcter I'll have to agree.
As for any future interactions with Loki himself, well I'll just have to play it by ear and just approach things in an open-minded and sensible manner.

Raven: I must admit I did enjoy the movie. Tony Stark is so silly ^^.

Morgandria: Kinda like the Asgardians in Stargate SG-1 I guess. Only they really do look like a stereotypical alien. I guess it's a good thing that I haven't had any dreams to do with the movie because I tend to overthink about dreams I have with movie characters in them. (Anything to do with Johnny Depp is excluded though).

Sorry if I missed anything, I'm very tired as it's rather late and I've had a busy past couple of days (not to mention the fact that I now have a cold - just in time for the exams... >.<)
