So, I'm at my sister's, helping her and her husband out with the fact that she's hugely pregnant and supposed to stay in bed. This morning she asked me to swing my our mother's/the house we all grew up in to grab a book that she'd left there. I didn't tell Mum that I was coming by. I didn't think I needed to. When I got there, Mum was entertaining a friend of hers that I haven't seen in probably over ten years. I started to walk over to greet her and ask how she's been, but the moment she saw me she went white as a sheet and then got up and started running around and screaming. Mum shot me a very dirty look and then sort of managed to herd her screaming friend into another room. I decided that whatever was going on was not something I wanted to deal with, went upstairs and grabbed my sister's book, and left.
As I was driving back to my sister's place, I remembered...when I left for music school (and came out of the closet...neither piece of news went down very smoothly, to say the least), my mother told all her friends that I'd died in a car accident. Put that piece of information together with the fact that I hadn't seen that woman since well before all that happened...I'm pretty sure she thought I was a ghost. Which I find absolutely hilarious, along with the fact that now my mother has to explain away this terrible lie that she told....I haven't been able to stop laughing. This might be one of the funniest, most ridiculous things that's ever happened to me.
Anyway, in what ways is your family ridiculous/funny/charmingly dysfunctional?
