I laid back in the grass and closed my eyes. The day was a typical summer day, the sun's warmth kissing my skin and a gentle breeze floated lazily in the air. I heard the yip of a small dog and opened my eyes only to be greeted by the pudgy but cute face of Aeowyn, my pug. She let out another small bark and nuzzled my hand with a happy wag of her short, curled tail. I smiled and rested my hand on her head, scratching just behind her soft ears. Aeowyn laid down next to me, cuddling up against me. She was like a cute blob of cream-colored fur.

I closed my eyes again. Images of him danced beneath my eyelids and a small smile unconsciously played on my face. I could already see his tall frame with the afternoon sun behind him and its glow off of his short, dark hair. I felt my fingers folded within his warm hand and the sweet kiss of his lips on mine. Sadly, it was an amazing feeling that I had experienced only in dreams and fantasies. And hopeless wishes.

Until now.

I tensed as the sound of a car's wheels rolling down the street tore me from my daydreams. I felt Aeowyn perk up next to me, a grumble beginning low in her throat. I hooked my fingers under the collar to keep her from running off.

I listened as the vehicle rolled to a stop and the engine was cut. I heard a car door open then slam shut. Could it be him? I kept my eyes closed, not even daring to breathe or to open them. I felt Aeowyn tug forward as the sound of footsteps in the grass advanced towards me and I tightened my grip on her collar. Suddenly the footsteps fell silent. And again, I tensed as his lips met my own. My grip on the dog's collar went slack and she tore off into the house, not that I even cared at this moment.

His kiss was slow and searching, one of his hands reaching behind me to cup the back of my neck. Glowing warmth spread from my lips and traveled through my body, making me come alive underneath him. His kiss had ignited something deep within me ... a passion-filled fire that burned brightly in my very core. I wrapped my arms around his neck, leaning up to him. I felt his fingers twine themselves in my hair and he pulled back from me, leaving me with the hunger for more.

"Cass," he breathed. I opened my eyes and met the deep darkness of his gaze.

"You came for me," my voice was barely a whisper, lost along with my self control as I pulled him into another fierce kiss. I could feel the desire in the air -- like a rising storm.

"Of course, kitten," he murmured, "I would go to the depths of Hell and back for you without hesitation, if it came to that." A smile tugged at the corners of my lips. I knew without a doubt that he meant what he said. We both sat up and he pulled me into his lap. I shifted, feeling like I couldn't get close enough to him. I let out my pent-up breath with a sigh as I rested my head on his shoulder. I felt him kiss my hair and now I couldn't tell if the content warmth I felt came from him or the summer sun. I half-closed my eyes, wishing I could just stay with him like this forever.

"I love you so much," he whispered in my ear before kissing me again and squeezing my shoulder gently.

"I love you too," I replied quietly with a smile on my lips.
