A New Journey Begins...

Over the years, I've found myself desperately wanting to work on a particular story, yet every time desire rears its head, either motivation or sufficient time is nowhere to be found. Now that some of my main distractions (a.k.a., school related things) and I have parted ways, I wanted to take another stab at working on this project.

Especially because I've seen my co-writer's progress on her book within the storyline, and I'm a competitive little thing it's fueling my interest in actively working on my part.

I've also noticed over my time here at this guild that when I talk about my progress, I seem to be more interested in continuing to write, possibly just for the ego-boost that comes with posting again. Yes, I'm also narcissistic that way.

Rather than clutter up the Members Updates thread with my excited rambles, however, I thought I might actually utilize this sub-forum and see where my own 'journal' takes me. Then, I can ramble, rant, and rave all I want!

Go up to the 'Characters' drop down list. Select "Add New"
> Name Page
Minor or Major - To the right of the box is an option to select whether your character is minor or major.

Full Name - Your character's full name.
Alternates - I'm using this for any titles my characters might have.
Description - Possibly a short description of your character. I don't think I'll be using this one, as everything I want to say is going into to the next section.

> Bio Page
> Notes Page
> Goals Page
> Picture Page
∞ Allows you to upload a picture of your character. Good for headshots, as the picture size is fairly small.

Your characters will appear in the Characters Tab in the order that you add them. (It is currently undetermined as to whether they can be re-ordered.) Alongside their names, there are a number of other categories for your reference. (Facts will be provided upon further investigation.)

Log, On the 29th Day of the 5th Month, Year 2012

"Sleep is long overdue, but the creature of Inspiration has reared its head, and must be dealt with before any of us are able to return to our beds..."

Despite my attempts to fall asleep around 1 a.m., I was kept tossing and turning in my bed until a little before 2, when I finally gave up for the time being and got back up. A small idea for a character's backstory had sprung itself on me shortly after heading to bed, and I had hoped that appeasing it by writing it down would have been enough to get my mind to finally shut down. Instead, I soon found myself sitting in the dining room, the light on, a small notebook laying unopened by my hand. I've been carrying that book everywhere for the past few days, hoping to find Inspiration to begin writing the Story.

Guess the saying 'be careful what you wish for' is true after all. Everything has a way of working out, but not in the way you were expecting...

Chapter 1 - The Departure...Chapter 2 - The Return...Chapter 3 - The Flight...

These words kept circling in my head, and despite my exhaustion, I knew there would be no sleep tonight unless I wrote them down in the Book. A small, naive part of me had hoped that just writing the titles would be enough, but instead, it was as though I had knocked open a dam. First came the possible chapter titles. Then, a sentence description for each one, to vaguely define what would happen in each. Then... The floodgates opened. I had left a question in the summary of chapter 1, a question of "why does this happen?"

Well, 'this' came to mind, right then and there. Before I knew it, I had written five small pages (the Book is probably 3x5 in proportion) worth of information, including a few paragraphs here and there of dialogue and actions that I actually hope to use in the Story. But I didn't stop until I had filled the ninth page.

Only then, did I force myself to cease writing. Normally, I would continue to write until Inspiration ended naturally, but in this case I had written down what I came to write down.

Though, of course, it needs to be typed up and expanded into coherent sentences and plot development, I have managed to write down everything new that I want to have occur in chapter 1 (building off of the previous 'beginning' I had given this story), and have written down even more of chapter 2. Chapter 3, I began to delve into, but ended my thoughts at a point that can easily segway to another section I already have written (minus plot points that need to change).

One part of me is ecstatic, for it feels like I have finally made progress in the "right" direction of the Story.

The rest of me is just exhausted, and wants nothing more to go to bed.

"The sea creature Inspiration has settled down into an uneasy rest. We await the dawn to determine if we shall need to battle it again. I retire now to my slumber, hoping that the creature will remain asleep until more...civil hours of the day."
