Birds were incredibly soft. Among all the creatures that came through the loft of the brothel where Saiobael slept and lived in relative comfort, birds were the softest. Thick downy feathers to protect from the cold, sweet voices, and the daintiest of frames. She quite enjoyed them.

The mistress let her keep the broken ones, ones that needed gentle tending to. Usually she'd even help her brace broken wings or legs that Saia couldn't see, so as not to cause more damage. At this moment, she was breaking apart stale pieces of bread she'd squirreled away, handing it to the three occupants she currently had in her care. One, she knew by its fierce screeches when it first arrived, was a hawk. The other two were surely much smaller, their voices higher and sweeter, and never too close to the large visitor.

She whistled softly to coax them out for their dinner. The rowdy sounds below used to purturb them, and the hawk moved away to a higher support beam to perch, it's meal of mice and Saia's dinner meat already devoured. She felt one of the small ones come into her hand and peck small bits of bread out, then leap away, and left the rest on the floor for the newer one to eat in peace.

Her stomach growled softly, resting a hand on it, she sat by the only window upstairs, the latch slightly open so she could enjoy the cold air in the warmer-than-average loft. A soft smile graced her lips as she heard the pleased cooing of all three birds, and the nagging pain of hunger subsided for a time. Pulling out the small harp in her skirts, a gift that the Lady of the house had given her once her talent had been discovered, she began to pluck a soft, soothing tune, a few crisp notes thrown in for flavor while she hummed along.

It had been some time now since the mistress of Frostwood Manor had taken in the lovely miss Saia, and it hadn't taken long at all for Cyphir to become accustomed to the other woman's presence in her life. She was a servant, purchased and technically owned, but the skill set she brought to the table was a bit limited. In fact, she'd been called a fool for investing so much of her hard earned money into a worker that was so obviously flawed.

Cyphir didn't consider Siaobael's blindness a handicap. Sure, it did limit what the young woman could do, but it never ceased to amaze the dark skinned woman how her young charge managed to over come such a crippling obstacle. Seldom did she ask for assistance, and only when trial and error proved the task too much a challenge for someone not blessed with sight.

In truth Cyphir had come to care for her live in helper, probably more then she ought to.

A few soft notes floated down from the loft of Saia's bedroom, and cyphir glanced up towards the ceiling as if she could see the other girl through the thick wood. She couldn't, but knowing the others habits she had a fair idea of exactly where she was seated. It brought a smile to the brothel owner's pale lips, and she rose from her seat at the empty bar and grabbed her half eaten lunch from the counter. She'd made herself a sandwich, but only managed to finish half of it, the other probably would have gone to waste, but instead she might as well see if her pretty lass was hungry.

"Saia, have you eaten yet?" Her voice floated up the stairs ahead of her, ringing over the sound of the harp. "I have half a sandwich with your name on it, if you're hungry."
