So I'm getting a new computer before I head off to college. My dad's offering me three choices to choose from:
Lenovo Thinkpad T420 Lenovo Thinkpad X220 Macbook Pro 13"

I've been using Macs for a while now, and whenever I try to use my sister's PC or the little netbook I got for cons, I get frustrated. The macs seem to crash less often and recover better. Also, my sister has had to replace her PCs every few years because they just stop working, but I've only ever upgraded my Macs because, while they were working, I wanted something faster or with more memory.

Hmm, that's a good point. I won't have readily available tech support (aka my dad), and I'm no good with computers, so anything that crashes less would be nice.

O.o If your PC is crashing a lot, you're doing it wrong. You can't internet. Just saying << Seriously, if you don't want your computer crashing, some tips:
- Avoid "tab spamming": Kee ponly up to 10 tabs open at once. - Avoid multiple video/streaming media tabs - Avoid having 100+ documents open at once - Not everything that says "CLICK ME!" must be clicked - Don't download bunch of stuff. Seriously. No, that is not the cutest thing ever, and no, that game is not as free to play as you think it is. - If you catch yourself encroaching on your memory maximum, dear gods, get some external, or delete some things.
Etc. common sense helps, as long as you take care of it. This computer has never crashed. I play WoW, use forums and youtube often, play facebook games sometimes, have some cool stuff, and have not restarted it in about 8 months. xD

Windows 7 or OS X.#.#.#, both are ridiculously roundabout and place being pretty over being functional. emotion_awesome *shot*
Try out the Macbook Pro and if you don't like it return it before the something-day no questions asked return policy runs out. Plus everything on Macs has a student discount tacked on! If you end up liking it that's an awesome perk.
@Roland: My Toshiba is a pos and I baby the crap out of it. emotion_8c It's harddrive spontaneously melted under warranty, but the second my warranty went out it's been going down the slippery slope of no return. The touchpad gestures don't work anymore, about 0 of the keyboard is broken, and there's black spots all over the display from the cheap tablet screen getting scuffed up from the wind or something. |:

As one of my friends so eloquently explained
Macs are for little kids who don't use the computer for actually getting anything done, just messing around. PCs are the get-s**t-done kind of computers, but for professional and gaming needs.

I don't download anything except on my mac, and only then from iTunes, I never click ads, and I wouldn't even try to have three documents open on a PC. They crash often enough. And I believe I only have one document saved to my PC, everything else is on a flash drive. I never use tabs on PCs. For that very reason. They. Are. Crap.

I just want to say two things. First, I acknowledge there is variation and while my netbook is fairly new it is at the bottom of the scale; sort of the "first car" of computers. I believe the popular acronym is "POS, BIR". Other, larger computers I have used have had fewer problems, but the same ones. Second, it has one window open, a very simple one-page website. And it crashed during this discussion.

It SHOULDN'T be crashing unless that happens. If it is otherwise, you may want to get it checked o.o You aren't an idiot, sorry, I was just..er..lacking in any form of social tact yesterday. Shouldn't even have posted v.v
Ugh, well, I've never had any problems like that with my PC. On the flipside, my sisters who play on facebook obsessively, crash here and there. My mother, who streams as many things as possible at once, crashes like once a week, and eventually destroys her computer.
Dayve, who...well, I don't think he comes across a download without trying it, and doesn't see a song he doesn't save, and doesn't go on facebook without trying every game ever...yeah, his is almost unusable.
I will say for a mac, I've not had a problem with one. I mean, a little trouble using one because I've been on a pc for so long now, but I hear they're great for anything artistic you ever wanna do

I don't think he's intending on treating you like an idiot, Kitty. Chill. He's explaining that having your computer crash regularly shouldn't happen, and if it does you need to get your computer checked. I've owned a PC for years upon years and I've only had a PC crash on me twice. You didn't say anything wrong or hurtful intentionally. Explain this how it is, broseph. Overall, if your PC is crashing regularly, get it checked because something's seriously wrong. I prefer PC because it's comfortable and I can play pretty much any game made for some type of computer on it. The most important thing to remember is that if you're comfortable and happy with it, then you are good to go. There are a few minor things I do like about Macs, most having to do with the trackpad. Actually, all having to do with the trackpad. Trackpad scrolling is perfectly smooth on Macs, which I like, unlike Windows that go down in increments. Also, I really like the forward and backward swiping when browsing.

@Ivy: Though I'm pro PC I suggest that you try out the mac first since you won't be gaming or anything like that. I'm assuming they're both the same price so just go with the mac (you can always take it to a apple genius store if it stops working too).
