User ImageThe morning had been misty, leaving dew drops to sparkle in the morning sun. It hadn’t rained the night before, but there was enough dew on the grass to suggest a mild reprieve from the summer’s heat.

Rosel normally wasn’t up early enough to know anything about morning dew, but it was one of the rare occasions she was staying at a home, rather than an inn. The inn in Clarus Arbor had been full up, apparently due to some family reunion outside of town, and Rosel had been forced to turn her potential meal into a host. The man’s wife hadn’t been too happy, but a wobbly lip had done the trick and she’d gotten their daughter’s room while she was away at Makai. Apparently the girl had a thing for unicorns, as Rosel dumped a dozen stuffed ones onto the floor before dropping into her bed.

The father had woken her up, ridiculously shouting to the milkman right below her window. Figuring they’d wonder where she was eventually, Rosel decided a head start out of town wouldn’t kill her.

The cool morning was pleasant enough for a stroll along the road, listening to the birds chirp. For breakfast, she was grinding her way through the tough bread and cheese the housewife had given her on the way out. A cart and horse had passed her on their way, and she, regretfully, declined. She couldn't catch rides all the time, not if she wanted to keep her figure. Rosel wasn’t a huge fan of nature, but someone who traveled as much as she did may as well enjoy it.

At least until the heat kicked in.

By noon, all the lovely dew was gone and the sun had burned away all the mist and clouds. Even the birds seemed half dead, and only a few chirps cut through the haze. Rosel had relegated herself to walking in the grass, trying to soak up the minimal coolness left in the dirt. Her high heels were in her hands, stockings rolled off and stuck down in the toes. She’d even given up and tied her hair back into a messy bun with her lace hairpiece. She'd have to get it cleaned when she got back to a city.

She passed a stream a while back, and was on the lookout for another. Looking out into the woods, she listened intently for running water.

Luciel lifted his head up to look toward the sky with his good eye, where the other one used to be hidden behind the fan like eye patch he wore. He gave the cloudless sky a long look before giving the softest of sighs. Too hot he thought to himself, not a single cloud in sight and he was quite sure that there wasn't going to be any rain to bring relief for sometime yet. If there were some on the way he would know it, the marking on his chest always gave the slightest itch when it was going to rain. Despite the oppressive heat that caused even the animals to remain still for fear of overheating the blond remained in long sleeves, long enough to reach passed his hands, ever one to keep old wounds hidden from the sight of others. He'd bypassed wearing his boots today, opting to instead stuff them into his pack along along with his socks, deeming them unnecessary since he wasn't planning on a trip into town today. That was something avoided at all costs and only did when his supplies were low, even then he only went in the early morning when the fewest people were about. He just wasn't one for crowds unless those crowds consisted of his own people.

His good hand moved to his side, undoing the simple tie that held his over sized fan in place then easily lifted it up into the hair with a simple wind spell. Luciel caught it smoothly, snapped it open, and lifted it up to help ward off the sun. As much as he appreciated the sun for it's life giving rays the thing had a tendency the burn his fair skin if he spent too much time out in it. His fan was a useful sunblock, among on other things, "Will be glad when the sun goes down." He mused to himself quietly, not only due to the fact that it would be a lot cooler but his powers were always stronger under the light of the moon. If it weren't for that slight limitation he would call up a stronger breeze to try to cool off as well as dry some of the sweat gathering under his currently braided hair. It had been a couple days since it was done, it was a little on the loose side, as well as a bit tangled. He'd need to deal with it sooner then later even though it was quite the chore. Despite that he couldn't really seem to bring himself to cut it, perhaps that was some sort of vanity talking but it was still just as long as it had been since before he'd been injured.

Too hot he found himself thinking, he would need to step up the pilgrimage he thought to himself, perhaps taking a detour to one of the shrines in the forest where he would be able to find shelter in the trees from the sun. He could go to the Southern most shrines when it started to cool down instead. He was drawn out of his thoughts on the weather and what direction he would be going next when he heard a distance, welcoming sound, the sound of water, "Oooo." A stream, perhaps? That would be nice, he could refill his flasks, maybe soak his hair down and maybe his robes since it wasn't as though the sun wouldn't dry him out as he walked. Turning from going straight on a path he'd walked many times before he then instead started toward the water way. It didn't sound as thought it were a large stream but so long as it was clean and cold the blond would be more then happy to make use of it. Unknown to him though he wasn't the only one looking for water at the moment.

The oddest of thoughts often came to Rosel when she traveled on foot. For example, she decided she might wear her hair up more often. Her shadow on the road had an interesting silhouette with the messy bun, ribbons, and mini skirt. She’d try it out in a mirror wherever she stopped for the night.

A fox popped out of the grass ahead of her, skidding to a halt to regard her warily. Without missing a step, Rosel raised an eyebrow at him and kept walking. He sunk back into the grass, but didn’t disappear completely as he watched her pass.

Another random thought - Her toenail polish seemed to be holding up well. The paint was slightly fluorescent, so it was interesting to see in the shadows of the grass-

Was that water? Pausing, Rosel turned her head slowly, trying to identify the source. It seemed to be coming from the woods to her left, and all of a sudden she was desperately thirsty. Heels still in hand, she bounded through the underbrush, stumbling for a moment when a twig stuck awkwardly into her foot.

Finally spotting the creek a short ways into the woods, and she hopped towards it on mossy rocks. The sound of running water never sounded so good. She attempted to spring into the creek to make a small splash, but slipped on a long, flat rock and yelped loudly as she came down hard on a log. Luckily, she landed on her backside, and she groaned irritably. It didn’t hurt too bad, for which she begrudgingly thanked the extra pudge back there.

The slight pain was quick to fade, and was immediately replaced with the euphoria of cool water running through her toes. Sighing deeply, she let her hand dangle in the water and closed her eyes.

Luciel, and the normal passive way that he appeared at all times, came to a sudden halt when he heard a yelping sound coming from the direction of the stream he was heading toward. He gave pause, trying to determine from that one sound what it might be and if it might be dangerous. After a moment he decided that he could at least take a look, not wanting to avoid it all together when it very well could be a small animal that had hurt itself. With renewed determination to reach his goal the blond was once more moving forward. The moment that he stepped out of the field and into the shadowy embrace of the forest he sighed in relief, "Much better." He murmured to himself, able to lower his fan down to give his arm a break. No matter how often he used his fan as a sunblock he didn't think he'd ever get used to the weight as well as traveling long distances in the awkward pose that came along with holding it open and above his head.

Luciel snapped the item shut and replaced it at his side before he set to flexing his hand to get the kinks out of it. He needed to take good care of this hand he thought to himself, it was the only one he had left after all. More then happy to be out of the sun he could have purred in delight... at least he would have were he one of the mononoke. His kind didn't purr though, instead his bright blue eye, complete with a pink ring in it much like the marking on his chest, seemed to glitter with just a touch more happiness then usual. Perhaps he would take a break here, provided of course the yelping animal didn't prove to be dangerous, venomous, or bigger then anticipated by the sound it had made he thought to himself, ever cautious.

A moment later though his mistake was made glaringly obvious. It would appear as though it weren't a wild animal at all, instead it was another traveler, and a blond at that, seeking out the same thing as him. It was something that he actually found to be a bit amusing though it didn't quite register, "A good day to you madam." He said politely, both acknowledging her as well as announcing his presence so as not to startle her. Two people meeting alone in the woods, one of them female, made him want to be on his best behavior so as not to appear like a threat of any sort. As he moved toward the stream, keeping a distance between them so he wouldn't appear as though he might be stalking her, which he was most certainly not doing, he slid his pack off his shoulder and moved to retrieve his water pouches from it. Two were bone dry and the third nearly there, this detour to avoid the heat was a smart one indeed. With another glance toward the woman he squatted down carefully and set to filling up on water. He wasn't sure why but he felt this nagging feeling that she was one he should keep an eye on. He couldn't tell why at a glance and at this distance but he was never one to ignore his intuition, not anymore. One had to be ever vigilant.

Rosel was almost too far gone in the feeling of the cool water to hear footsteps approach. By the time she realized the rhythmic crunching noises were footsteps, she looked up just in time to be startled by their owner’s greeting. Her immediate anger at letting herself get snuck up on was overrun by the embarrassment of possibly having been seen gracelessly falling on her butt.

”Well, hello there stranger.” And what an interesting looking stranger he was. Tall and muscled, he immediately reminded her of the sailors she liked to watch loading and unloading the docks of Moonfall. He moved stiffly as he got his water, and Rosel wondered if he was just shy, or nervous. Even she had to admit, a woman in a mini skirt was one of the last things one would expect to see hanging out in the woods.

She moved her shoes to the side and shifted so she could cross her ankles in the water. ”So,” she raised an interested eyebrow. ”Come here often?” She was always hungry for a new heart, but she wouldn't risk dining on someone who was known locally and would be to obviously missed.

Luciel paused for a moment at the greeting he got in return for his before returning to what it was that he was doing. He should probably say something he thought to himself, she was the sort that he had more trouble with dealing with. She wasn't of his kind, something he could tell easily enough, and not a child that was easy enough to deal with due to their more simple mentality. As such it meant the possibility of more questions then he had willing answers for but he should do his best to make the crossing of their paths at least a pleasant experience or at least as pleasant as possible considering the off feeling she gave him.

Once the flasks had been refilled he pushed up to his feet, turning to face her as she posed the question to him. Did he come here often, "How do you mean? If you mean this particular part of the stream I would say no, I've never been here. Now if you mean the general area from time to time my movements bring me through." He moved in what was basically a circular pattern so he passed by here often enough. Moving to his pack he replaced his water pouches into it before closing it securely, "And yourself? Is this a place you find yourself venturing too often?" If so, and she was familiar with the area, he had to admit he was a little curious what had caused her to yelp in such a strange manner. He wouldn't ask though, not wanting to pry for the simple fact that if he did that she might wish to do the same. Best that this something that he meant to keep friendly but at the same time left at arms reach. Strangers passing on the trail were meant to speak, share supplies if needed, and aid if someone was injured, but not secret.

His…movements? His answer was so formal that Rosel couldn’t help the smile that spread over her face. Formal and shy, how adorable. He continued to move stiffly as he rose to his feet. He hadn’t removed his hat thing, despite the limited sunlight under the trees, and he kept one arm behind his back as he moved around. He didn’t seem the type to pull a weapon on a defenseless young woman, but hey, she was prepared if he did.

”Oh good, I’m glad you’re not a fan of this particular spot. I’m inclined to never visit here again; these very rocks made me slip and fall not five minutes ago.” Still smiling, she recrossed her ankles. She hadn’t been hurt, but maybe admitting her accident would get this stranger to open up.

”I can’t say I’ve been down this particular road at all before. Clarus Arbor isn’t the most exciting place in the world, so I don’t get out here that often. Your…movements, though? Are you a soldier?” He didn’t look like a knight, but she’d been wrong before on that front.

”Oh, and how rude of me, not even introducing myself. I’m Rosel.”

She'd fallen on the rocks? Well now, that explained the sound from earlier he thought to himself glad to have the mystery solved and without even having to ask her about it even, what luck, "I will take caution am I ever to return to this spot, I thank you for the warning." The last thing he wanted was to take a spill on the rocks, it was quite likely that he would land on his pride were such a thing to happen and bruise it, "You are alright after the fall?" He added, wanting to make sure she hadn't twisted, twinged, or sprained anything in her tumbled. With the powers he had it would be rather cruel of him not to ask such a simple question or deny her the healing he could offer if she had in fact been injured, he'd just offer it cautiously. There were many a dangerous creature that played wounded to draw in prey after all... not that a smiling girl really screamed 'danger', she just seemed to whisper it.

"Clarus Arbor isn't so bad, then again I do what I can to avoid the exciting places in the world." To many people... he didn't care for large crowds given that among those crowds of people it was more then likely would be Majin and worse over then that would be the darker version of that race. He shifted in place and forced his dislike of them back, not wanting to think of that at the moment. It was tough to ignore his general distaste for them but he wanted to keep himself in an at least passively content mood instead of allowing himself to sink into a more sulky one. Too much thought on 'those people' often lead to that, as such he would do his best to keep himself calm and serene. If only it were so easy all the time, the still of the forest helped.

When she mentioned his movement he couldn't help but to give the slightest twitch, "My movements? They seem strange to you?" He asked, perhaps she could see through him and his guise? Not a thought he liked even in the least bit, at the question of him being a soldier he gave a shake of his head, "No, I am a traveling monk." Put in the most simple terms at least that explained what he was without drawing undo attention to the fact that he was an outsider.

It seemed that they were then onto introductions, something he knew was polite etiquette and something that needed done. When she gave her name he knew it impossible to keep his own to himself, "It is a pleasure, Rosel, my name is Luciel." He said, giving the slightest bow of his head to her.

”Oh, I’m fine, thank you. A little sore but could always be worse.” Not that she’d let him inspect her rear end, but it was kind of him to ask. Maybe after a couple of drinks she’d let him get that far, but hey, she had class. He didn't seem like the type to try anything, with or without her permission, but even the stodgiest of men had weaknesses.

”You avoid the exciting places? Why??? Too much excitement elsewhere in your life?” She winked and leaned forward, chin in her hands and elbows on her knees. It was always the shy and upright ones that got into the dirtiest of things… And that always drew her special interest.

”The movements themselves, no, I’ve just never heard anyone describe their travel like…a soldier describes…” she gestured vaguely. ”Movements and formations. ”

How fantastic, she’d never played with a monk before. Many men clung to some sort of religion to help them sleep at night, but Rosel didn’t see the point in it herself. Most of those fancy books had quite a few sections on what happened to the 'wicked'.”A monk, hm? Well, pleasure to meet you, Mr. Monk Luciel.”

Luciel listened closely as she explained that she was fine, just a little sore and that it could always be worse, "Alright, I am glad to hear that you are, for the most part at least, alright." It meant that she likely didn't require any magical aid in healing her wounds and he wouldn't need to use up too much energy during the daylight hours to fix her wounds up for her. Which wasn't to say that he wouldn't if she were actually injured he thought to himself, shaking his head to clear his mind of his racing thoughts so that he could focus once more on the one that he was sharing this particular spot with.

When she asked if there was too much excitement elsewhere in his life he gave a little, curt nod of his head, "Yes, you can say I had my fill on excitement and then some." And he would much prefer to spend the rest of his days in the relative comfort that was the life of a wanderer that he was enjoying at present. The wink that she gave him caught him a little off guard, making him wonder if he'd something to warrant such a flirty response from her. If he had it hadn't been on purpose, "I will leave the excitement to those that are more... adventurous then I am." He said, deciding that she was more then welcome to his portion of excitement that the world might try to hand to him, it was nothing he wanted after all.

When she explained what it was about him that seemed soldier like he gave a slow nod of his head, "I see, that makes sense." He just had to describe the way he traveled in a more casual manner he told himself were he to explain it someone else in the future and he was sure that he would. The last thing he wanted was to be labeled as a soldier in anyone's mind, after all if one thought that you were a soldier, thought that you were tough, they wanted to see how their power stacked up against you. Last thing he wanted was to draw the attention of would be heroes that wanted to a battle him, "I thank you for pointing it out, I will be more careful in the future not to describe myself in such a way, I would hate to be mistaken for a soldier by one that might come to think a duel is in order." He made a slight face over the mere idea of a duel. Thank you, no.

Glancing upwards, and using his good hand to shade his eyes, he looked up at the sky and set to judging the time by the position of the sun, the color of the sky, and just the general look of everything. He had a few more hours until evening set in and he should likely decide if he wanted to continue on or perhaps make camp here. Glancing over at Rosel he decided it might be best that he move on before evening, for the moment though he likely couldn't dismiss himself too quickly else he may appear rude. What else was there to say? He supposed he could comment on the weather, that was the normal course of action that one took when making small talk with strangers, right? Best to start there, "The heat isn't going to break anytime soon, so I likely won't be sticking around the area long, how about you?" He asked of the woman who seemed to be in no hurry from the way she was still relaxing at the waters's edge.
