I don't know if it's the same for all states but I'm trying to get disability and my mom says I totally screwed myself over when I said I clean cages, because that automatically means I have a snake, which is an exotic animal. She keeps telling me that you're not allowed to own an 'exotic animal' and be on disability. I don't get why the hell I wouldn't be able to own a snake and get disability.
Does anyone have anything on this?

I've never heard that before. My friends mom is on disability and she has tarantulas but it could be different depending on where you live so I don't know. confused

I know several people that are on disability and own exotics. My old friend is on it and she owns chinchillas, snakes, Geckos, 3 dogs, and birds. I know of someone that has a service rat as a pet (rats are consider Exotic) Owning a pet doesnt interfere with getting it. My mom has it and during the time she was getting it she owned 3 cats and a 55 pound dog. And it doesnt depend where you live either. Disability goes threw DC to get fully approved not the state because if it did my mom would of had her court hearing in IL (where we live) instead of Missouri.

Ohh. Hmm, I'm not sure where that is. I thought you might have lived closer to me when you said the court hearing was in MO. I live in Granite City, which is about a 20 minute drive to St.Louis, MO

St. Louis is about 2 hours and 45 minutes from me. I had to go there to the Children's Hospital once for my son. The hearing was in Hannibal, MO actually. It was the only one they had close enough for her to go to. But you are about 2hours and 30 minutes.

that seems like a silly rule if its true since snakes are much less work than cats
