Name: Ella Dollard (aka Maelstrom)
Age: Her exact age is unknown but she's spent a century on land from when she first shed her selkie skin. Physically she looks about lower-mid 20s.
Alliance: Good, down deep, but she ultimately would do anything to find out about her skin.
Powers: She can influence animals and fight. Though not exactly a power, she has an affinity for swimming and staying under water for long periods of time.
Strength: As a selkie creature, she has the ability to influence animals. She can sing a magical tune and sway an animal to do her bidding. It is not any sort of mind control and cannot backfire in such a fashion that an animal would turn on her. Ella is a skilled fighter and is good with a variety of weapons; she has taught herself that almost anything came be used as a weapon. Her specialty though is with blades, but as modern times require, she conceals a gun. Also, in being a selkie, she's incredibly agile and quick.
Weaknesses: Ella's ultimate weakness is her selkie skin being discovered and returned to her. If she gets her hand on it, she must return to the sea, no matter what life she has onshore. There is also no saying that if she returns to the the sea, will she ever be able to become human again. Besides her skin's discovery, she has vulnerabilities like most humans. Though Ella has immortality, she can indeed be injured (shot, stabbed, fall off a building, etc) and killed.
History: Ella Dollard, the name given to her by her human husband, Robert Dollard, is a selkie creature. Ella's tale starts as most do most selkies. A seal (a selkie one) came on land and shed her seal skin, of which was found and hidden from her by a human man who forced her to become his wife. Robert knew of the selkie legend; they were creatures that often brought good luck, especially to fisherman like him. He used her ability to influence the fish to swim right into his nets.
Ella spent 50 miserable years with Robert until the bitter end when he died. He never told her where he hid her skin out of pure spite; maybe it was because she never loved him. Still, she was enraged, and the urge to return to the waters taunted her so. Ella searched everywhere for the skin but to no avail. It was gone. She then fell into a depression for ten years, and it was one day when she was walking down the street she saw a woman being mugged. Ella had nothing to lose, nothing to live for, so she stepped in and threw a fist to the muggers face. He dropped the wallet and ran off. Something about that event sparked a new light in Ella's eyes. She decided rather than be miserable and live in hate, she'd make use of her life and do something good.
So she trained herself to fight and use weapons. Then whenever she found someone in trouble she'd intervene. Now, decades later, she's perfected her fighting skills and has called herself Maelstrom to insight fear into the villainy lurking about.
