Today I was puppy sitting again. The boss's foster pup was dropped off at the store. It's a tad challenging to keep my eye on the pup and run the store by myself. So of course, the damn thing snuck into the grooming room and found what I guess was a gift for one of the groomers. An entire bar of DARK chocolate.
I know there's a vet site VIN which has a good calculator for toxic doses. But, I just couldn't be bothered to look for a trustworthy calculator. And I knew we had peroxide in the grooming room as we OCCASIONALLY cut nails too short and use it to get blood stains off white fur. Again, I know it's 15ml/ kg or something, but I also know that often the initial dose isn't enough, so I just poured some into a bowl and offered it to the pup, who sipped at it a bit before deciding it didn't taste great. Then, just to be sure, I poured a good 15ml down his throat. Luckily after he'd eaten the chocolate there were no more customers in the store, I took him outside and started to RUN up and down the street outside the store. About 4 times until I noticed him not following so eagerly....and then he puked, a pile of chocolate and bile. Yum. I was so happy it worked lol, the clinic I work at does not used peroxide. I do not remember the name of the drug, they apply a pill IN the dog's eye which gets absorbed by the mucus membranes and that works usually very well. Only once at the clinic did a dog not puke and we had to administer activated charcoal. I let the pup drink and fed him a bowl full of charcoal cookies. I know the amount of charcoal in cookies is pretty minimal but, I didn't have my first aid kit with me lol. I figured at this point it couldn't hurt. I'm failry certain I got the vast majority of chocolate out.
So ya...hydrogen peroxide, good thing to keep in the house lol

Oh I knew that. I also know it takes 3-4 TBS to get my 67 lb dog to hork up what ever the ******** my neighbors keep throwing over the fence after sundown. I called animal control and they got a few massive fines [dogs off leash, no shelter in kennels, exceeding the number of dogs permitted without a kennel license...] And then I called the police to report property damage. [Pandora's bloodlines her Breeder has put a price tag and she's insured for about 1800$]

H2O2 works wonders. Once when I was younger and a bit more... careless, my friend and I stayed at his house after a big party. I left a tab of LSD on the top of his television so I wouldn't lose it. A few minutes later I noticed a wet spot on the TV and the tab missing. We immediately concluded that his beagle licked it off, which is, or course, TERRIBLE. We force fed the dog pieces of bread soaked in H2O2 and he threw up about 3 or four times. I really think it saved his life, or at least his sanity. He absorbed enough to be a little uh... crazy (and admittedly entertaining) for a few hours but overall was fine. I regret my stupid mistakes when I was a young naive teenager, and will always remember that. I still feel really bad to this day. But yes, peroxide really does work.
