I just learned of Rin Satsuki, a character that was scrapped during EoSD's development, yet still partially lived on in some of the game code. I'm sure that a lot of you in this guild already know of her, so my point isn't to bring attention to her. Mostly I'm just curious as to why she was scrapped, was ZUN just not able to think of dialogue or a personality or anything? Do you think ZUN would possibly make her a real character in the future? I'm sure that ZUN has created and scrapped more than just Rin, but I'm curious about whether or not some other characters that were scrapped have survived in a game's coding.

I would say that the fans would like for Rin to be real, she even got a fan-made theme.

I will admit that the first thing that went through my head upon hearing about a character that should exist but doesn't was creepy pasta, lots of potential for that kind of thing with Rin. As far as that kind of power goes, she would have to be stronger than Yukari, lol.

I can't help but think that her data was left there intentionally. I know nothing when it comes to coding, but would it have been that hard to have eliminated all traces of Rin?

EDIT: Upon googling creepy pasta about Rin I was surprised to find nothing. Perhaps I should try my hand at writing one...

Being the fangirl who knows all of the characters, this is the only known one that was scrapped and left in the coding. As for why.. Well, I can't say myself. In fact, even the portrait we depict her as may not even be her real picture-- but due to it being released on the ad it's most likely her as she hasn't made an appearance on another character.

Of course, some characters from PC-98 can't be reused due to them being copyrighted to another company, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil was not only the first Windows, but the first game with ZUN's own company Shanghai Alice. It's possible he wasn't allowed to use the character for similarities of another but who that would be is beyond me. It's also possible it was a scrapped PC-98 design too. Unless ZUN says it himself, she's practically a mystery.

That's about the limits of my knowledge on her, but I hope that cleared a little more up.

Thanks Graceless and Ru-Ku. Up until now I honestly thought ZUN was doing Touhou by himself from the start, guess you learn something new every day after all. I'll have to check out that fanfic. Canon or not, I'd like to see how fellow Touhou fans commonly portray her.

EDIT: Done with chapter one of the fanfic...wasn't expecting that.
