Pressed - Chapter One
Summary;; Kidnapped and mutilated to the point were he was mute, Light isn't really all that disappointed about his loss.
The doctors said that his vocal cords would never be the same, only a miracle would able him to speak again. The most he could do was laugh and make coughing sounds. Light didn't mind though, it wasn't as if he talked to anyone frequently or at all for that matter. The few times that Light ever spoke was to answer a question by the teacher or to respond to his parents. It didn't matter to Light, it shouldn't matter. Light wanted to reach up and touch his throat, but he knew what he'd already find there. Bandages and bruises the size of his fist wrapped around his trachea; they followed a pattern down his upper chest as well. The minute his hands moved from their position at his side, a nurse would calmly bring them back down again. He hated the sympathy in the eyes of everyone who looked at him. Light couldn't wait till he was released from the hospital and these awful markings were gone from his skin though one of them would never heal. He'd be disfigured forever. One scar would always be present, as if to mock him, and it was one that he wouldn't let the doctors touch let alone try to heal.
A latch turned and the hospital room door opened to reveal a young doctor and Light's father. Yagami Soichiro stood off to the side looking exhausted and extremely uncomfortable. Light didn't blame him one bit, he didn't like hospitals in the least; they smelled of disinfectant and they were too… white for his tastes. Light had only seen his doctor once or twice, all the other visits during hours when he was asleep, and he had to say that this person wasn't ever going to be his friend. Bedside manner was something the man was good at and it would be appreciated by any other person than Light. Light wasn't any ordinary person and he was hard to please. He preferred the straight forward approach to anyone he spoke to, the same for reverse conversation. He wanted the doctor to come right out and say what needed to be said instead of beating around the bush. The doctor seemed to want to calm Light, saying that everything was going to be alright and he need only wait. Soichiro reassured him that they would find a way to bring his voice back if only slightly.
'Silence is best.'
A shiver of fear and anticipation ran up the length of Light's spine. A phantom voice that only he could remember whispered those words to him at least once a day. Never to forget, especially when silence was broken. Light continued to nod and write down his answers for the waiting doctor, all he wanted to do was get out of the suffocating room. As soon as all the doctors questions were answered Light dropped the pad of paper and gazed out the window. Flashes of his kidnappers hands and the time he spent feeling them was never going away.
"Yagami-san? I'm going to ask you some questions, please answer them to the best of your ability." Light nodded, he knew this was going. The doctor will probably ask him yes or no questions, the typical way all doctors did things. They were so predictable. "Yagami-san, on a scale from one to ten, one being the least pain and ten being unbearable, how does your throat feel?" Light held up six fingers to the man, though it hurt a little more than that Light never felt the need to show more pain than neccesary. He was stubborn, what could he say? The doctor wrote it down and a prescription for pain medicine.
While hooking up an IV drip he asked another question, "is the damage affecting your breathing in any way or the bandages perhaps?" A headshake no.
"Any discomfort?" Another headshake no.
"Are you able to make any sound at all?" Light gave him a hesitent look. The brunette might have been able to make a sound, but something told him he shouldn't anyways. Short locks shook from side to side as said no once more. The sighed, but did not urge or push Light to try. "Thank you for taking time Yagami-kun, feel free to call and ask for Okita-sensei." The now dubbed Okita-sensei shook Light his fathers hand and slipped a business card to Soichiro.
Light smiled politely as could, but the pain in his throat and the headache that was forming was getting worse. The drip in his arm wasn't all that affective. He wanted everyone to silence their voices and leaved so he could get some peace after this mornings affairs. Soichiro thought it was time for them to go and he ushered himself and everyone else out of the room, Light sighed and sank into his hospital bed.
Whether it was a dream or pieces of memory, the vision swept beneath his eyelids as he slept.
- Sweat trickled down his brow as his mouth opened in a silent scream. Only moans of pain came from him as his body continued to be brought down under the knife's blade. Tiny punctures and scratches littered his body. None were deep enough to leave a scar. His captors took the scalpel to his skin over and over again, making blood color his skin a rusted red. Even though he was trying his best not to make a sound, he was only human, and his soul could only take so much. The knife was brought down towards his chest intent on making the deepest cut yet, a real scar was going to be made. It was burning...burning until..he...couldn't breath!
Hazel eyes snapped open to a white ceiling and an antiseptic smell. His hand went up cover his eyes in a way to block off his vision of the world. Even though he remembered he was in the hospital and safe, his bodily reactions still felt as if he was currently with his captors. 'Get a hold of yourself Light.' He cursed himself for being weak, he wasn't supposed to be like this and his shaking body wasn't listening to him. At least his father was coming later this evening to come release him from his hospital. Since they could really find anything wrong with him besides scrapes, bruises and a little trauma he was fit to go home and rest there. Being out in the real world was a different matter, though Light wasn't about to hide out in his room. Now that he was alone Light allowed himself to touch his throat, but soft white bandages came in contact with his fingers. He wanted to rip them away, to feel the putty feeling of his neck.
When Light's father did come that evening he quickly had prepared a written statement on the parchment below his fingers. It simply stated; 'I'M GOING HOME. NOW.' A simple yet effective way of telling his father that he wasn't staying her a moment that than was required of him. He eased himself out of bed, careful of the other injuries, and started unbuttoning his hospital gown. There was to be someone in his room at all times so he had to undress when his father was present, the doctors wanted to watch for any surprise emotional outbursts. Too bad for them because they weren't getting anything from Light.
Yagami didn't voice any complaints as he was sure that his wife would be pleased her only son would be coming home soon. He knew that Light was strong and he'd get through this. Soichiro signed that papers and soon Light was wheeled right to the front doors of the hospital, only the policy of medical leave kept him from walking out the doors by his own two feet.
Light - stepped on throat caused loss of voice.
Scar - ? words? 'silence' is maybe the word/scar? Inside of thigh?
Sign language, fast learner.
Kidnapped? Where? Who? Dead or alive?
Even if they find a way to cure Light, he doesn't want to talk because the 'kidnapper' told him to always be silent.
A story is told as much by silence as by speech. -L
Should have L be the one to have found him? but not in person. Later meet.
When torture began, al he gave were glares and the refusal to speak. They carved into him but still he refused to make sound, why it made his captor smile instead of becoming angry he didn't know.

Child abductions? 5 months? Beginning in November - March, then skipping April. Light gets taken in May. Past Based Chapter?
CHAPTER TWO
"That's the eighth child, and young adult taken in the past five months." says the newscaster. "These children abductions started early November and have not stopped since. Children and parents alike are afraid and they have plenty of reason to be. The first child, who's name we won't release to the public, was found near a local park in Chiba. Whoever is doing this seems to have taken residence, or at least staked claim, in the Kanto Region. The police and private detectives are doing everything they can." Jun-san, the newscaster, now looked at the camera. "Now, can you give us some pointers Saki-san? What options can we take to keep our children safe."
The television screen changed and now showed a young woman standing near the water in Chiba. "Keeping children safe is our number priority, Jun-san, and of course I will do everything to help." Saki-san continued on giving her current ideas and safety tips that any family should know.
"Curfew was changed about a month into the kidnappings, and so, if you aren't aware please do not let any children wander out after eight o'clock. I repeat, please no children after eight o'clock.
In lighter news, two of the kidnapped children have been returned alive. Their injuries were severe, but they are expected to make a full recovery." A hand went to the ear piece on the side of his head, Jun-san listened carefully. "A short list of injuries have been compiled for us, parental guidance should be in present if you are listening to this at home. We have been informed that mental and physical abuse occurred...
Oh my, it says here that due to a particular injury inflicted on the second child released, the poor child will no longer be able to - "
The television screen flickered and the familiar cross shape appeared before it finally powered off. "Enough Light, it's upsetting your mother." Light hadn't even really paid attention when he heard the front door close in the back of his mind, he only looked over when his father had the remote in his hand. Light glanced towards the kitchen, his mother was hunched over the cutting board with a slight tremor shaking her shoulders. "You don't need to be watching this anyways, we are working on it son. They'll be caught soon, and then no one will have to worry any longer." Yagami had said this before and Light didn't really want to hear it.
'They really have no common sense. People are idiots, it's their fault that they just don't think.' The televisions lights filled the living room as the Yagami family was divided between the kitchen and the living room where Light sat now. Once they were all seated at the table and tucked in Light decided to speak up. "I could help you know. I've helped this plenty of cases before and have been succes-"
"Not this time Light! You know he's been targeting people not yet of age, and you aren't twenty yet, only just eighteen. No means no."
Light looked like he was going to argue, but then his head turned back to his plate and ate a little more. "I'm done. Thank you for the meal," he said as he got up to clear his plate and place it inside the sink.
"You haven't eaten hardly a thing!" his mother exclaimed, it didn't matter as he acted as if silence had reached his ears instead. .
JUNE - PRESENT TIME
Light glanced to the door of his room and then he turned back to stare at the blank television screen. He knew that if he should push the power button it would turn on and his face would be on the other side. The news and reporters were pleasantly having a field day, and the headlines read: 'The only son of police officer Yagami Soichiro was found alive after being taken. And forever mute? What happened during that time?'
If Light had any say then no one would ever know. What happened in that room wasn't anyone's business but his own.
Even though Light hadn't left the house since coming home from the hospital, the sun that poked through the windows of his room felt like a knife to his eyes. Early on, right after they had found him, they noticed his aversion to light. The first doctor who tried to shine a pen light into Light's eyes had ended up on the ground a couple seconds later. His hospital room had been darkened for him and the trip home had been in the evening, while Light had eye drops and a low luminescent lamp to help him get used to it. His eyes were almost healed but right around high noon and when the sun shined through the window at twilight, like now, were still a little much.
As for his neck? Still no sound, but the swelling and ugly bruises had gone down a little bit. His mother still avoided his gaze when he walked into the kitchen or sat down on the couch. She cared for him the best she could, but was otherwise occupied. Sayu on the other hand, was even more obsessed with being 'the best little sister' and only left him alone when she was at school.
"Light!"
Speak of the devil and he shall appear. The brunette put his arm across his eyes, blocking out the rest of the existing light in his room, he heard his little sister bounding up the stairs after coming through the front door. "Light!" Sayu burst into his room, probably a big smile across her face, without noticing the slight flinch Light gave. Every door sounded like that rusted, roaring door as they forced it open. He felt the slight dip on the left side of the bed as she sit down.
"Liiiight~ Come somewhere with me!" she pleaded, laying down on the pillow next to me and her voice turned a bit softer. "You haven't been out of the house yet so come to the park with me. Just for a little while and it's getting dark too so no excuses. We only have about an hour till curfew." Light moved his arm and glared at Sayu from an angle, she laughed. He sighed and signed one of the JSL gestures that he knew.
Okay.

CHAPTER THREE
Ten minutes and a whole block later found them at a park. The park was simple but effective. A couple of swings, two slides and a couple of other toys to climb upon. Enough the keep the wood chips happy. Light looked at his sister, and while it wasn't rare that they were alone together, this time seemed different. Sayu was quiet for once and that was strange in itself.
"I missed you." It was whispered softly enough that the teen almost didn't catch it. Luckily, listening had become his most used attribute. Though he had nothing to say even if it was possible.
Could he be sorry? Is he supposed to be thankful?
He nodded because that was all he was capable of at the moment. Light was just glad Sayu didn't reach out and touch him, trap him within her tiny arms. Though he supposed that she tried just a few weeks ago. Light still didn't appreciate contact but his response in the doorway of their home - knocking her into the small side table - had told them that Light's personal space had just expanded. He had quickly gestured that it was a mistake, he didn't mean it, but Sayu, his little sister, just brushed it off and welcomed him home.
Home... That was what he wanted, right?
xx
His lips moved and he could vaguely see puffs of his frozen breath. He wanted to mumble to hear something in all the silence. He hadn't heard anything except the occasional shifting he did to get more comfortable. Light licked his lips. "C-ca-"
The door slammed open and the teen flinched back against the wall. The light that accompanied the presence made his eyes water, his half lidded eyes only made out the boots near his face. The stranger made a ticking noise with his mouth, "Tsk, tsk, you know that you aren't supposed to make a sound. That calls for punishment." Light's face drained of the last bit of color he happened to maintain and he shrank back as that boot came down on him. He was in darkness once more. xx
He pointed to the swing in front of him. "You want me to sit? Really?" She sounded more surprised at his actions that he did. Sayu shrugged and sat, and then felt, a few moments later, a pair of trembling hands at her shoulders. She shivered and Light used a small amount of force to force her off the ground.
He touched her! His actually came in contact with her! For just a moment she let herself remember what his hugs left like, before all of this. Light hadn't voluntarily touched anyone since his.. return, not even his little sister, and Sayu had liked to think that they were very close before this mess had ruined everything. Sayu's shoulders shook just as much as his hands did and if either of them noticed, no one mentioned it later.
