This is a private RP between: Tobias and Bigsby

Where: A park in clubs, consisting of a field ringed by a dirt path and trees.
What's happening: Bigsby's worn his father thin, and has gone to play on his own when he meets Tobias.

Bigsby had begun to notice the Sun's funny way of catching on his clothes, in his hair, on his skin, anywhere really that was exposed to the slanting afternoon sunlight that came as the day just reached its peak. Even in Spring, these beams of light lanced down stronger than any other point in the day, and played on every surface available, from the exposed grass to the shadowed areas beneath the trees, dappling the ground anywhere it could pierce the leafy canopies above. Bigsby held his father's hand, high above his head, as the two of them walked along a semi-shaded path through a park in Clubs. In the distance, birds sang and even farther off was the rumble of society.

The serenity of the day, however, was lost on Bigsby, who had focused in entirely on the sensation of sunlight catching in his clothes. At the leisurely pace his father had set for their walk, they moved too slow to reach shade before Bigsby began to grow uncomfortable, and he'd made a sort of game out of the walk: He'd run a little ahead of his father, hand still clasped tight, to stand in any shade that fell across the packed dirt of the path from the trees at the right, and he'd stand there while his father caught up, to let a little more of the heat diffuse in the cooler darkness the trees provided. He tried not to pull on Papa's arm, but the action was so methodically enjoyable that he soon found himself unable to help it.

Papa, though putting up a valiant fight, soon found himself unable to stomach the impatience with his son's antics, and sighed mightily. He drew to a stop, and the next time his son pulled on his hand, he let the young boy's arm slip free.

“Run along and play for a bit, Bigsby,” Papa shooed him, sounding tired. “I'll stay here and watch you. Go work off a bit of that energy.”

Bigsby (full to brimming with energy) needed no further bidding. With a wave to his Papa, he was off towards the center of the park, where several others lounged and played. Bigsby was on sharp lookout for interesting things, but flowers especially, something he might shove into the band of his hat, as well as hats on other people.

Tobias was on his own, wandering as he was wont to do. It wasn't an unusual sight to see the stray child hanging out here and there, getting in to this and that with little supervision. He wasn't technically stray, but those who cared for him were simply too busy to keep watch over the energetic and curious child all of the time.

On this particular day, he'd headed to the little park, eager to make friends and get into all sorts of trouble. He'd not seen Malo in some time, but if he was here, he'd probably be at the park, right? At least, that was what the youngster had decided early on in the morning and he'd made his usual rounds through the areas he liked to visit most. Dodger had even given him a couple of little coins to spend, should he get hungry, and they were tucked away snugly in his pocket.

The child hopped along, kicking dandelions here and there, giggling with delight when the puffs of white flew upwards. He had no idea he was spreading weeds! It was simply too much fun and he was fascinated by the little things, which wafted on the breeze for a time, then settled down. Delighted, he came to a halt and plucked one. He righted himself and held the little plant to his lips, forcing the white fluffs off the stem with his breath. It was just about that time that he caught sight of another child coming rapidly in his direction.

Bigsby kicked through the weeds and higher grasses, staring intently at his feet for something other than wildflowers. All he could find presently was a whole gaggle of yellow dandelions and a few white ones that he kicked, releasing little floating seeds off into the air. So epidemic at this point of the year. And in the epidemic lay the dullness of the flowers, the scores of them holding no meaning to the little boy who glossed over them with disinterest on his careful picking through the grasses. His father always knew where to find wildflowers that were so perfect for hats; surely, Bigsby could do the same, if he only looked hard enough. If he could just find something red...

More dandelion wisps floated into his view, all around his downturned face, several getting caught in his hair and a few more flying right up his nose as he inhaled. With a snort and a sputter, Bigsby stopped dead in his tracks and looked up, remembering and reacquainting himself with the world around him. And not a moment too soon, it seemed, for he'd been moving so quickly and so obliviously that he'd nearly crashed clean into another boy who stood before him, with a fascinating pair of colorful pants on him, and... and...

”That's a... that's a cool hat yez got there...” Bigsby began, irreverantly, his eyes wide and his mouth ever so slightly curved into a circle. He stared at the boy's beret for a moment longer before tearing his eyes away and slapping a mighty grin back on. ”Hey, have you seen any cool red flowers?”

The boy was coming close awful fast! Instinctively, the politoed took a few steps to one side, just in case the other little fellow didn't notice him, but he did and a disastrous collision was avoided. He wasn't really that worried, though, and instead felt an excitement welling in his bosom at the prospect of a playmate. He was surrounded by old, working guys too often and didn't often get a chance to romp around with someone his own age.

"Oh? Thanks! I'm glad y'like it, Dodger done got et for me cos for when I done got new clothes." He beamed happily, spirits lifted by the other boy's complements. Oh! They both had hats! He was nice, or so he hoped, and he wore a hat, so this new fellow must have been nice, too! He had very simple logic.

"The hat you done got is nice, too! But nope, I ain't seen none 'round here, but iffin' you want, I can 'elp ya' loom for 'em." He offered, grinning broadly as he let the seedless stem fall to the ground, near his feet.

The Aurrie

The boy Bigsby stood before had a twang to his voice that rivaled Bigsby's own accent, but nowhere near as difficult to understand. Sometimes Bigsby grew incomprehensible, especially when silly and tipsy from a spiked cup of tea. The accent, though, and the hat endeared the boy to Bigsby. His blood ran hot, and Bigsby had to suppress the urge to tackle the boy on the spot, get straight to roughhousing. He liked that part, but he didn't know if the other boy did yet, and he didn't want to risk chasing him and his lovely hat away.

”Mine's nice, yeah... I'll fight'chez fer yours sometime, how 'bout it?” Bigsby offered, instead. That was fair. A scrap for a hat, perfectly fair. Bigsby would win.

Bigsby then dropped to his knees and began rooting through the grass, crawling slowly along, searching for the elusive red flowers that might or might not exist. Whether or not the boy would follow through with his offer, Bigsby didn't quite care, because he'd already started to lose attention without the prospect of a scrap to hold his concentration. His hat just seemed more important. He carefully readjusted his hat upon hitting the ground, and took care not to tilt his head too far, lest it go tumbling away.

He instinctively reached upwards to tug on the hat that adorned his head. Dodger would be awful mad if he lost it, of that he was certain. He'd been reluctant to buy it in the first place, given his meager income, but he'd been nice enough to do it! Still, he couldn't imagine backing out of a scrap, especially with this fellow. He instinctively liked Bigsby and felt that if he'd said no, that would put a halt to this new friend thing. A broad grin slid across his face and he bobbed his head.

"Sure, I'll take y'on, iffin' I win, I get 'em both!" He didn't want to lose. He'd have to practice before this little scrap of theirs. He watched the other child with mild curiosity as he rooted around the ground. He took ever so good care of that little hat that sat atop his head! The frog boy chewed on his lip for a moment, before shuffling along, his emerald eyes pinned on the ground.

Red flower... Red flower... Red flower... This was kind of boring, actually. There had to be more fun things to do than flower-hunt.

...

That was it!

"'Ey, you like t'play wit' the instr-o-ments?" That was what they were called, right? He'd been to this park on a couple of occasions and last he'd been, he saw some interesting looking items left out on the gazebo. Artists would gather there and play. Maybe they left them this time, too?
