"Mostly human games. Poker, sevens, rummy." There were others of course. Some children's games, some not. She was not a gambler but her host had been around them. As Ankou moved she watched him, shielding her eyes from the sun.
At Ankou's words Infinity cawed loudly.
"She says there is another, smaller settlement to the east with shelter." Cosine translated for the crow and pushed herself up to her feet. In her mind it would be better to travel by night, out of the heat, but they did not have the time to sit around and wait for that to happen. She pulled part of the coak up over her head to shield it and held her arm up. Infinity hopped from the wall to her arm and climbed up to the goddess's shoulder. "Ready." She confirmed.

"Then that might be where the stone is..." Xun Jiang mused. Wouldn't survivors try to band together to try to survive and overcome ?
Well, that was what the night elves had done. And while it had worked for them... It clearly hadn't worked for these people. It brought a pang of sadness within him, but... There was nothing they could do now, aside from helping the land recover.
Before they could set out, through, he opened his bag and pulled out leather gourds, handing one to each of his companions. "Do not wait until you feel the thirst to drink... Deserts at their highest temperatures are rather unforgiving." He could do an emergency wellspring but... Well. He'd rather have no need to do such a thing.
Ankou accepted the gourd carefully, nodding to the dragon king's words. He was uncertain if he would actually need it, but it would be rather rude to refuse. Even he did realize that.
The gourd was looped carefully into his belt, and he moved to wind the scarf around his head to try to avoid some of the sun. Just because he was more or less unaffected by terrain did not mean that extreme heat was something he sought, if he could avoid it.
"We should probably check that settlement first, then."

Finally! Tien had gotten more than a little restless the longer they sat there waiting while the sun continued to rise. It would be good to get moving again. Hopefully Ankou was right and what he had found was the gem they sought. She nodded, taking the gourd from Xun when he offered it and found an easily reachable spot on her pack to tie it. Lifewater seemed to know what he was talking about, so she would heed his advice. Once that was done she shouldered her pack and adjusted the cloak to better cover her head. "Ready to go when you all are."

When everyone was ready, Glyph gave another nod and turned to the east, picking his way through rubble, sand, and the occasional sun bleached pile of bones. It was obvious that the land had been fertile once... the animal carcasses they passed seemed like herd animals, gathered together, and the patches of barren land was dry and cracked soil in much need of rain as the wind swept layers upon layers of the dirt away.
Whatever had happened to the people, Plague, Famine, Decay, and Hell had probably sealed its fate. The thought of demons roused him from his thoughts in the baking, stifling heat and he wrapped his sash loosley around his branches, putting one foot in front of the other. The ground he passed over seemed to shift and they moved, the seeds shiverring in response to the touch of a life-giving influence, occasionally sprouting to reach for the powers that walked above.
"Would demons still be here if their prey has perished?" He asked of no one in particular, scanning the horizon.
Even without the threat of demons, this would be a taxing trip indeed.
(feel free to fade into a close now~)

Cosine accepted the gourd too though she wasn't sure that she would need it either. It seemed most of her 'human' functions were more of habit than necessity, like sleeping. She followed in silence, taking in the parched landscape, looking up at Infinity as she soared above them occasionally. "It is doubtful. If they inhabited this land in the first place ... I imagine they would have found a way of moving on or perhaps gone in to some kind of hibernation."
