Aksaja listened carefully to the instructions and watched what Radha did for a few minutes, frowning slightly. It didn't look too hard - but then again, she had a horse and he had a huge spider. The lightning dragon wasn't entirely sure it would even be able to understand the same commands. But really, there was only one way to find out. First of all, a name might be a good idea. Even if he didn't end up keeping the mount after they left here, he should have something to call it, right?
Thinking about it for a moment or two, Aksaja pulled a name pretty much out of thin air. "You'll be Jorvyk. And you're mine." The spider seemed completely unimpressed with that.

"Really? You don't like that name? How about uhm . . . " Aksaja thought for a minute or two, then tried another name. "Jalika?" Still nothing. "Oh come on! This shouldn't be that hard . . . "

Hey, maybe it was a female spider! "Let's try . . . Zalaka!" This time, he got a response. The spider raised it front limbs toward him and kind of skittered forward. "There we go," the lightning dragon almost crooned, reaching out to sort of pet the tarantula's head. "Now we're getting somewhere."
Moving around to Zalaka's side, Aksaja carefully clambered up onto her(?) back and got ready to try out the commands Radha had shown him.

Just to experiment, he first tried sort of clicking at her to see if that would mean something. "Move forward," he half-whispered then. Nope. No go on that. He'd have to think of something else.

How about . . . Aksaja concentrated and sort of "projected" the command at his mount with Fear - or tried to anyway. And this time, he was rewarded when the spider practically rocketed forward, all eight legs seeming to blur beneath him. "Yah!" the lightning dragon yelped in surprise. He hadn't quite expected it to move that fast, Jack!

Despite being fairly fast, though, the spider's movements were also very smooth - not really jerky or uncomfortable at all. It could actually be a lot of fun to just . . . keep going. Explore a little. Still, he needed to get Zalaka to listen to a stop command too. Concentrating again, Aksaja tried to Fear command his mount to halt.
Instant cease of motion. And the dragon grinned. Perfect! Just one more thing before he was done practicing.

Getting the spider to move again wasn't too hard, now that he'd figured out how to get it to listen. But going in circles was certainly going to prove interesting . . .

Okay good, half a circle done, now just keep going . . . "Come on, Zalaka," he muttered, projecting his Fear at his mount and trying to also sort of physically guide her. The combination seemed to work, and Aksaja grinned before getting her to stop again. This wasn't so bad! Now for the other direction.

Aksaja concentrated and got Zalaka moving again, then tried to turn her in the opposite direction from what he did before. The tarantula, however, had other ideas and started going in the direction they'd been going before. "No no no," Aksaja muttered.

"Come on, I'll figure out what you eat and get you a treat if you just do this for me," he crooned then, leaning down close. He wasn't even sure if she had actual ears to listen with, but he was trying here!
And it seemed to work, whether she actually heard him, or he was concentrating better or something, the spider walked in a complete circle and Aksaja found himself grinning at his - no their - success. "Good girl," he murmured, patting the spider just behind her head before climbing down off of her. They could maybe explore a bit later on.
