Mitzi decided to try a different training exercise than she had the day before. She couldn't find any of her friends, so she decided to go by herself. The path she took led to an orchard, a nice cool patch among all of the desert. She grinned a bit, this was more her style.
As the older horsewoman explained what to do, Mitzi nodded along. This seemed easy enough to do.
She picked a tree and started climbing. She'd expected the windy day to make it hard to get a firm grip, but somehow the wind was all going up, and it seemed to make her lighter, almost. It was so easy to pull herself up each new branch of the tree.

As she continued on her way up, she happened upon a rope ladder. Perfect! She quickly scaled it, using it to get higher up the tree without worrying about the moving branches.

Apparently the going was too easy; Mitzi was starting to take it for granted that it would just keep working. So when she saw a branch that looked good, she grabbed it, not even bothering to really look first. But when the branch shook, instead of just a few leaves falling, she was pelted with a rain of spiders.
She yelped, having to stop her forward motion to try to brush the spiders off. She squirmed, and almost fell, but managed to get them all off before they bit her (which at least was better than her times in the caves at War). But it had slowed her down, and put her back on her climb.

Suddenly Mitzi found herself without any more branches that looked like they would support her weight. But the fruit was still just out of reach. As the branch she was on started to bend under her weight, and she heard it making weird, worrisome sounds, she decided there was only one option. She could roll when she hit the ground, so she wasn't worried about the fall, only about not getting the fruit at all. So even though she suspected it was too early, she got ready, and jumped just as the branch she was on started to break under her weight. She managed to grab the fruit, and landed on the ground without hurting herself. At least the fruit seemed all right, if not really as ripe as it ought to be.
She walked over to the horsewoman, who examined her fruit and tsked at her. At least she had a fruit, though, which glancing around, some of the others who had been here as well did not. So she didn't feel like she'd done too poorly, overall.
