Leshy The Leshy or Lesovik is a male woodland spirit in Slavic mythology who protects wild animals and forests. He is roughly analogous to the Woodwose of Western Europe and the Basajaun of the Basque Country. A leshy usually appears as a tall man, but he is able to change his size from that of a blade of grass to a very tall tree. He has hair and a beard made from living grass and vines, and is sometimes depicted with a tail, hooves, and horns. He has pale white skin that contrasts with his bright green eyes. A leshy has a close bond with the gray wolf, and is often seen in the company of bears as well. He is the Forest Lord and carries a club to express that he is the master of the wood. He has blue blood, which makes his cheeks the color blue. Legend describes him as having a red scarf and his left shoe on his right foot. He also had no shadow.
Leshy protects the animals and birds in the forest and tells them when to migrate. He can shapeshift into many different forms. As a human, he looks like a peasant with glowing eyes, and his shoes are on backwards. In some tales, he appears as a large talking mushroom. He can either be large or small.
A person who befriends a leshy can learn the secrets of magic. Farmers and shepherds would make pacts with the leshy to protect their crops and sheep. The leshy has many tricks, including leading peasants astray, making them sick, or tickling them to death. They are also known to hide the axes of woodcutters. A person gets lost in the woods when a leshy crosses their path. To find the way out, you have to turn your clothes inside out and wear shoes on opposite feet.
Leshies are terribly mischievous beings: they have horrible cries, and can imitate voices of people familiar to wanderers and lure them back to their caves, where the leshies will tickle them to death; they also remove signs from their posts. Leshies aren't evil: although they enjoy misguiding humans and kidnapping young women, they are also known to keep grazing cattle from wandering too far into the forests and getting lost. Sometimes cow herders will make pacts with a leshy by handing him their crosses from around their necks and sharing communion with him after Christian church gatherings; these pacts are said to give the cowherds special powers.
Sometimes more than one leshy inhabits a forest, and then they will fight for their territory, knocking down trees and scaring animals.
A leshy is a demon or spirit in the Dictionnaire Infernal. There he is a Slavic forest being, similar in nature to the Polevik sprites. He protects the birds, trees, and animals of the forest; he appears in the shape of a human with blue skin, two great horns, green hair, and a long green beard across his face, carrying a club or whip indicating his mastery of the forest.
Should one ever encounter a leshy, one must thwart him immediately by turning all one's clothes inside out and backwards, and placing one's shoes on the opposite feet.

Name : Claire Renee Holmes (nee Wainwright) Gender : Female Date of Birth : November 9th Age : 30 Occupation : Legal assistant Race : Human Orientation : Heterosexual Marital : Married
Appearance : Claire is tall and willowy, standing at 5'10", with an oval-shaped face sitting atop a long neck. Her complexion is pale ("ghastly pale" as she calls it), with a tendency to burn in the sun rather than tan. Her dirty blonde hair is parted neatly down the middle, resting at her lower back when down although she usually keeps it tied in a top-knot or bun while at work, and her eyes are a light blue-gray, looking a little too large for her face. Clothing-wise, she dresses sharp and professionally for work, with blouses, heels, and pencil skirts, while her off-duty clothing runs the gamut of lazy and youthful (jeans and a cozy t-shirt) to casual but classy (loose flowing tunic tops, leggings, flats, accessorized by jewelry). Personality : Claire is kind to a fault and a bit of a bleeding heart, always ready to give someone a shoulder to cry on or the benefit of a doubt. This was a crippling weakness when she was younger because her feelings often got taken advantage of, but since then she has wised up and is less of a pushover, even if she prefers to be agreeable. She can be seen as almost "aggressively caring," as she always reaches out to those she cares about with a phone call, an invitation to shopping or dinner, or just to grab a coffee, but if the other party is firmly resistant she will back off and wait (if not somewhat anxiously) until they are ready. In her own fits of despair and anxiety, she becomes reclusive herself and is prone to crying fits, sometimes going as far as to cry on the phone to someone when she feels "needy" (or what she calls as much), but luckily her husband or mother come to the rescue and guide her gently out of her sadness.
At her best though, Claire is a positive, sunny influence without being too much so, and prides herself on being grounded and approachable. She is intelligent and she enjoys engaging in conversation on both friendly and debating levels, although she tries not to be too overbearing about it. She has a deep love of nature, instilled in her from her mother and her own travel experiences, and she finds nothing more relaxing than spending an afternoon with her nose in a book or arm-deep in her garden. She is also especially fond of animals, her mother's borzoi Misha is a constant house guest. Likes : Reading, a hot drink, ice cream, gardening, rainy days, romantic comedies, the smell of fresh mowed grass, craft faires, walks in the forest, kitschy collectibles, sales Dislikes : The aftertaste of milk, high-stress environments, morbid thoughts or images, the color puce, her slightly crooked teeth, people who tailgate when you're driving, an unsatisfying conclusion to a book or movie History : Born to a mother in the Peace Corps instilled a love of travel and seeing the world in young Claire. While the majority of her mother Ivy's overseas travels ceased for the time being, Claire was raised with an appreciation of how big the world truly was, as well as all the natural wonders it held. When she was old enough, she joined her father and older brother on trips to visit her mother in the field. Books filled in the rest of the blanks of what the world had to offer and she ate up every word. By the time her mother retired from her work, Claire was in high school and had taken an interest in a study abroad program, which took her to Russia for a year and left a lasting impression on her. During the trip, she met a young man from another part of Gaia by the name of Aaron Holmes, and the two became fast friends. She met with him many times over the next few years studying at a community college, and both attended Durem University (Claire in English, Aaron in Business Management). Their affection for one another deepened during this time and they began dating in Claire's junior year, and shortly after graduating and acceptance into law school as a paralegal, Aaron proposed and the two were engaged.
She finished her paralegal studies and found a job with Royce & Harris in downtown Durem, which provided a lot of stress but brought in decent enough money for her and Aaron to rent a nice apartment together. They married the fall Claire turned 27 and their first years of marriage were marked as happy, although their jobs tended to distract them from each other from time to time (Claire with her legal assistant duties, Aaron with helping to oversee the produce shipping companies his father owned, Holmes Produce). The urge to expand the family struck the couple, although many attempts proved unsuccessful, and in later cases (two miscarriages) proved emotionally devastating. A doctor's appointment revealed she had a septate uterus, which seemed to be the root of her problems. Claire was devastated, and even though treatment was offered if they ever decided to try again (although the doctor did advise it was better done sooner rather than later), she said she would like time to think about it. Aaron was very supportive during this time, although Claire suspected he may have been disappointed as well. Time and love healed the emotional wound for the present, and both Claire and Aaron dove into their jobs, although Claire begin to feel herself slip into bouts of depression, amped up by her job, their high rent, and her inability to have children. It was at this time that Ivy called from Gambino and suggested that perhaps she might like to move closer and start fresh. Claire discussed the option with Aaron, who suggested he could transfer to a branch office and telecommute if need be, and the two packed up and headed to Gambino. They found a spacious house up the street from Ivy for the price of the place they were renting in Durem, and Claire moved into a smaller law firm where she feels considerably less stress.
